The MSc in European and International Business Management, often referred to as the European Management Programme or EMP, is designed for students who wish to develop a truly international perspective on management, by sharing the experience of living and studying in three different European countries.

We offer the European Management Programme as part of our partnership with two other centres of excellence the Universidad de Deusto — Deusto Business School, Bilbao and AUDENCIA, Nantes, Ecole de Management in France. The course takes place in three countries, in three prestigious European institutions, and is taught in three languages: Spanish, French and English.

You spend your first term in Spain or France, your second in France or Spain, and your third at the School of Management in Bradford, UK. The course includes some language tuition, but you must be competent in at least two of the three languages used and have the ability to become proficient in the third. You spend the final 12 weeks of the course on work placement or writing a report.

The European Management Programme is a joint award of the three Institutions (Universidad de Deusto, Audencia, and University of Bradford). The Master's awarded is officially recognised by the Ministerio de Educación in Spain.

Modules

Compulsory modules are taught during the first six months in Deusto-Bilbao and Audencia-Nantes, and elective modules taught during the Spring period at Bradford. Students must simultaneously prepare a dissertation. After the Dissertation's viva and the electives' exams at Bradford, students undertake a tutored internship of three to six months.

The second term (January-March) offers more advanced courses, so that postgraduates can solve real case-studies of international companies using management tools with a sound technical basis.

This one year, full-time programme investigates the functional marketing and international marketing activities of an organisation, understanding the context in which organisations conduct their business and how the business environment influences strategic and operational decision making in a national and international context.

In Semester 1, you will cover six core subjects to develop a fundamental marketing knowledge base (Marketing, International Business Environment, Marketing Communications, Consumer Behaviour, Marketing Research, Operations Management).

Semester 2 covers subjects which are international in orientation (International Marketing, International Business Strategy, Cross-cultural Management and Services Marketing). Each module represents approximately 100 hours of study time, of which typically 24 hours is contact time with the module tutor(s) and the remaining 76 hours is made up of pre-reading, directed reading, preparatory work and assessment.

Methods of assessment are varied and linked to learning requirements. They include open and closed book examination, essays, coursework assignments and case studies.

Career support and prospects

The University is committed to helping students develop and enhance employability and this is an integral part of many programmes. Specialist support is available throughout the course from Career and Employability Services including help to find part-time work while studying, placements, vacation work and graduate vacancies. Students are encouraged to access this support at an early stage and to use the extensive resources on the Careers website.

It is a common occurrence for a highly gifted English speaker, a special needs student, and students whose first languages may reflect Arabic, Burmese, Farsi, Kurdish, Somali, Spanish, and Swahili (to name a few) to be working together. The multi-lingual classroom is now typical instead of unique. The challenges posed by the classroom structures and populations require teachers to gain knowledge and understanding while developing expertise in the areas of second language acquisition, appropriate strategies and models for effective instruction, assessment tools and accommodations, and literacy frameworks, practices, and overall language learning. In addition, today’s classrooms require educators to become skillful examiners in order to conduct classroom action research that leads to improved practice and teacher efficacy. Degrees

This online licensure-based program, offered by the Womack Educational Leadership Department and leading to a Master’s of Education (M.Ed.) with a major in Curriculum and Instruction and a concentration in English as a Second Language is designed for: a) candidates seeking the master’s degree with Add-on Endorsement in ESL, b) candidates seeking the Initial Professional License in ESL, and c) candidates seeking the Add-On Endorsement in ESL (without degree).

The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with concentration and licensure in ESL focuses on preparing professional educators to meet the needs of students who are currently enrolled in U.S. public school classrooms in grades PreK-12. These populations may include students who represent immigrant populations, newly arriving non-English speakers, children of immigrants, and diverse populations with a variety of language and learning needs. The program is designed specifically for teachers and those who plan to teach second language learners in multilingual classrooms within the U.S.

Coursework is aligned with the Tennessee Department of Education Professional Licensure Standards for ESL and the CAEP Standards and Professional Dispositions for public school educators. The program takes a literacy-based approach to teaching ELs and is grounded in state and national education initiatives. The program is revised on an ongoing basis to reflect current practice.

This program is delivered online and does not prepare candidates to work exclusively with adult learners in EFL settings.

The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with Concentration and Licensure in ESL offers preparation to candidates to teach in public schools, private schools, and faith-based learning environments. Program Structure

It targets German and international candidates with a non-business degree but offers enough depth for business degree holders seeking to further refine and strengthen their education. MBA students receive in-class instruction on business topics and executive skills during Terms 1 and 2. In addition, they can choose two of four elective courses. Choices are: Management in Emerging Markets or Digital Business Transformation in the Fall term as well as Social Entrepreneurship or Global Supply Chain Management in the Spring term. Furthermore, they choose one of three International Focuses: Germany and Europe, Latin America, or China. In Term 3, students can opt for an International Immersion studying one semester abroad. Alternatively, they can also choose a Practical Immersion (internship or international consulting project) combined with an international week. Depending on their practical business experience, students may be eligible to waive the practical or international immersion in Term 3. This so-called Fast Track reduces the overall study time to a total of twelve months.

The Master Thesis at the end of the program demonstrates the students‘ profound understanding of current business topics and the ability to apply specific scientific methods to a real-world business situation. The topic will be chosen in collaboration with a company. Therefore, the knowledge and research presented in the thesis are valuable for both the student and their company.

International or Practical Immersion

Internationality and practical relevance are two of the core values of The Munich MBA. This is why MBA students can use Term 3 to choose an individual immersion corresponding to their personal needs. International immersion: Students can extend their international experience by studying abroad at one of our over 50 partner universities worldwide. Practical immersion: Students, who would like to immerse themselves into the practical application of their newly acquired knowledge, may either complete an nternship or a global consulting project. In addition, they will spend an international week at a selected partner university.
