This version of the International Relations programme offers the opportunity to study at the prestigious Higher School of Economics in Moscow and obtain two Master's degrees. You spend the first year at Kent and the second year in Moscow. Courses in Moscow are taught in English.

The main goal of this programme is to link the general study of international relations to specific questions about Eurasia in world politics and the international economy. In the post-Cold War world in which the tectonic plates of international relations are shifting, the programme provides a unique, critical perspective on traditional approaches to studying international relations and conventional accounts of East-West relations.

Students will receive high-quality teaching from eminent scholars both at Kent and the HSE in Moscow who are internationally renowned experts on international relations, Eurasian politics and the world economy. Format

This course is suitable for the working professional as it is taught online, by distance learning. The flexible structure of the course allows a choice of study routes depending on discipline and professional needs. The vocational nature of the course allows the graduate to use the skills and knowledge obtained to steer their career advancement. Apart from the masters degree, students can study four modules for a Postgraduate Certificate or eight modules for a Postgraduate Diploma.

Teaching will be delivered through the University's online virtual learning environment, Campus Moodle, allowing students to interact with tutors and fellow students around the world. Assessment methods

The course is largely assessed by way of coursework which can be completed remotely.

There is now a portfolio of assessments for the first stage – which tests students knowledge and skills in a range of different ways but which is largely undertaken in the University’s online teaching environment. This portfolio does include one closed book exam for each of the arbitration and adjudication routes (and two over two years for the "joint" route (Route C), however. This is to be sat at a venue which is arranged by the student – with the support of the University.

The second stage is assessed by way coursework submissions in answer to questions posed by teaching staff and the third stage requires submission of a 15,000 word dissertation.

This course will help you to bring a novel, book of poems, book of short stories or work of non-fiction as near to publishable quality as possible. Working with tutors and other writers on the course, you’ll develop your writing and build up a substantial body of work. Weekly workshops are taught by a strong team of published writers, and there are regular visits by literary agents, publishers, magazine editors and broadcasters, as well as other writers.

Due to the reputation of the MA in Creative Writing, we are able to recruit excellent students who form an exciting and mutually supportive community of writers every year.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND CONTENT

The course is modular and is currently offered for full-time study only.

You’ll learn:

• To plan a manuscript (a novel, collection of short stories, collection of poems or book of literary non-fiction) and complete it, or a substantial part of it, brought to publishable quality or as near as possible.

• To understand literary form, style and genre, as relevant to your chosen form of writing

• To acquire a variety of relevant writing techniques, and research techniques to support writing, and adapt them to your particular creative project.

• To understand and respond creatively to questions arising from the subject-matter, themes, genres, traditions and other literary contexts with which your chosen manuscript is engaged.

• To receive and give precise and sensitive critical feedback in workshop groups and one-to-one tutorials.

• To respond creatively to feedback provided by tutors and other students, adapting that feedback to your particular vision of your book.

• To understand choices and opportunities relevant to your chosen manuscript, including questions of how to place your work, and the role of agents, publishers and editors.

MODULES

Each student will take two workshop modules, two context modules and a double module entitled 'The Manuscript':

In the first trimester ‘Professional Skills’ provides intensive group discussion and some plenary lectures. You’ll bring short pieces of writing to workshop groups consisting of a tutor and not more than seven other students. There are separate groups for prose and poetry. You’ll submit a manuscript proposal halfway through the module.

In trimester two, you’ll take a second workshop module in either prose or poetry.

Each context module explores connections between your creative writing and the wider world as represented by a theme or genre. Seminars are divided between considering set texts and workshopping your creative writing. You’ll take a context module in trimester one and another in trimester two.

In trimester three, ‘The Manuscript’ will be taught by means of one-to-one tutorials. This is the culmination of the course – the book, or substantial part of a book.

Entry Requirements:
You should possess a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic / Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent qualification e.g. a Diploma of the College of Radiographers. Applicants who are applying outside of the UK require an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7 with no element below 6.5.

For reporting qualifications you should be currently practising, with at least two years’ post-qualification experience as a radiographer.

The courses are aimed at those with a current qualification and registration as radiographer, or other health care professional, registered with the HCPC who wish to enhance their qualifications and skills and to prepare themselves for the extended roles that they are expected to embrace. The available courses are designed to enable you to evaluate the relationship between technology, managerial responsibility and policy. As increasing emphasis is being placed on hospital-based research to support evidence-based practice, the courses also aim to enhance your abilities to critically evaluate research findings to benefit service provision, and thus ensure that the patient remains at the centre of everything that we do.

We'll equip you with specialist knowledge and skills to meet the ever-changing needs of this fast developing sector. All modules are delivered by highly skilled lecturers with the support of dedicated visiting lecturers from the clinical setting. 90 per cent of course delivery is face to face.

The available accreditations can be studied part time to fit around your personal and professional commitments.

Each single module requires a notional 200 hours of study. Most single modules are delivered either during the afternoon or evening or, on the named pathways, on a two or three day block-release basis, with the clinical component taking place in your workplace under the direction of a clinical supervisor.

Most students are successful at their first attempt of assessment.

Studying at least three generic classes will meet the key requirements to attain Chartered Engineer status.

You must take three specialist classes if you are studying for the Postgraduate Certificate and up to five if you are studying for a Postgraduate Diploma or MSc.

Successful completion of six classes leads to the award of a Postgraduate Certificate.

- Group project
You’ll work with a group of students from different pathways of the Sustainable Engineering programme. You’ll produce sustainable solutions to real-life industry problems. This project will include site visits, field trips and progress reports to industry partners.

Learning & teaching

There are two teaching periods (semesters) of 12 weeks each. The first semester is usually from the beginning of October and the second semester starts at the end of January.
Some of the second semester subjects are taught over eight weeks so that you can devote as much time as possible to your individual project work.
Each year about 15 experts from the industry give talks and seminars on wide-ranging topics. Industrial visits are made to a variety of companies.
You’re required to attend an induction prior to the start of the course.

You will work with award-winning journalists and academics with outstanding industry links, achieve expert skills in research and reporting in print, digital, radio and video, and explore the media's evolving role in society.

Course Structure

The course is structured in three parts. Part A. Foundations for advanced journalism studies, Part B. Core Master's study and Part C. Advanced expertise. All students complete Part B. Depending upon prior qualifications, you may receive credit for Part A or Part C or a combination of the two.

[Note that if you are eligible for credit for prior studies you may elect not to receive the credit.]

PART A. Foundations for advanced journalism studies
These studies will introduce you to journalism studies at advanced undergraduate or graduate level. They are intended for students whose previous qualification is not in a cognate field.

PART B. Core Master's study
These studies draw on best practices within the broad realm of journalism studies. Through a combination of academic and practice-based work, students gain a solid foundation in all production technologies – print, video, radio and online – in metropolitan, regional and international contexts.

PART C. Advanced expertise
The focus of these studies is professional or scholarly work that can contribute to a portfolio of professional development. You have two options.

The first option is a program of coursework study where you select the units to suit your own interests. This option includes the opportunity to undertake an internship in the field.

The second option is a 24 point research thesis. Students wishing to use this Masters course as a pathway to a higher degree by research should take this second option.

Students admitted to the course, who have a recognised honours degree in a cognate discipline including humanities or social sciences, will receive credit for Part C, however, should they wish to complete a 24 point research project as part of the course they should consult with the course coordinator.

Partner with another course

Double degree courses allow you to study towards two different degrees at the same time, and graduate with two separate qualifications. And because a required subject in one course can count as an elective in the other, our double degrees take up to two years less than if you studied for the two degrees separately.
