You are supported throughout your course by a dedicated Student Adviser and have the opportunity to regularly interact with fellow students and your tutor. To ensure you receive the support you need from your tutor, we cap our class sizes at 20 students.
We adopt an assignment-based approach to assessment instead of exams. Assessment for the PG Dip International Trade and Commercial Law will be based on a combination of written coursework.

Research projects can take place in a variety of locations including King’s, occasionally other local universities and also in local hospitals, clinics or sports clubs.
Work placements can be held in any healthcare setting with a suitable MACP qualified mentor and mainly take place in the UK; Predominantly NHS outpatient physiotherapy departments, some private hospitals, private physiotherapy practices and sports clubs.
You can expect to receive approximately 280 contact teaching hours for the MSc and 260 contact hours for the PG Dip during the courses. This will include lectures, seminars and practial sessions.
Students are expected to spend approximately two days a week studying independently and preparing for assignments during terms 1 and 2.
Students studying on the Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (with Clinical Placements) MSc and PG Dip will also go on clinical placements totalling at least 150 hours and will have direct contact time with their mentor for at least 50% of this time. Students are expected to spend approximately 50 hours consolidating learning from clinical placements and preparing for clinical assessments.
Students on both MSc courses will also undertake the Research project module which involves approximately 20 contact hours with their project supervisor(s) and approximately 600 hours self-study.
The primary method of assessment for this course is a combination of oral, practical and clinical assessments, written assignments, and written examination. MSc students will also be assessed through a written thesis.

The PG Dip programme equips students with a critical understanding of psychological models of psychosis and the skills to deliver high quality and creative cognitive behavioural interventions. The shorter PG Cert programmes focus on clinical skills, for clinicians, or on theoretical background for researchers, academics and non-practitioners.
The courses have been developed with the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and designed in accordance with the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence Schizophrenia Guideline psychological therapy recommendations (NICE, 2003, 2014).
The purpose of the courses is to improve the delivery of cognitive behavioural interventions for people with psychosis. CBTp is a complex therapeutic intervention and requires of independent practitioners an advanced theoretical understanding of cognitive models of psychosis and specialist post-qualification skills in relationship building, assessment, formulation and intervention. Our courses train students in each of these requirements, enabling them to develop competence then mastery in therapy delivery, and to provide consultancy, training and supervision to others.
The courses are modular, following a credit framework. Two clinical skills modules build from early therapy activities (Engagement, Assessment & Formulation – Module 1) through to intervention and specialised applications (Intervention & Supervised Practice; Module 2). Two academic modules develop students’ critical appraisal of the theory underlying psychological models of psychosis (Theoretical background I: Psychological Models, Module 3) and the evidence base for interventions (Theoretical Background II: Interventions, efficacy & future directions, Module 4). Diploma students complete all four modules; clinical skills certificate students complete Module 1 and Module 2 only; theoretical background certificate students complete Modules 3 and Module 4 only.
Case supervision is strongly emphasised on the clinical programmes. Weekly morning supervision sessions take place in small groups (four to five) on the teaching day with all supervision carried out by the programme team. Additional close supervision (listening to audiorecordings of therapy sessions) is a course requirement.
The programmes deliver the clinical skills and theoretical background to work creatively and effectively with people with a schizophrenia spectrum diagnosis.
The Postgraduate Diploma in CBT for psychosis (CBTp) is designed for qualified mental health practitioners and covers both the clinical skills and theoretical background required to become an innovative and successful practitioner of CBTp. We recommend completion of the programme on a part-time basis, over two years. A fast-track one year full time option is available for students with previous experience of relevant clinical work and masters level study.
The Postgraduate Certificate in Therapy Skills emphasises the clinical skills component of the programme, for mental health practitioners who are primarily concerned with clinical practice, rather than academic development. The Postgraduate Certificate in Theoretical Background is designed for people without a mental health qualification, for researchers or academics, or as an introduction to CBTp. Students attend seminars and workshop teaching in order to acquire a detailed understanding of psychological models and interventions, together with their evidence base, but clinical supervision is not usually provided. Certificate programmes are offered on a part-time basis over a calendar year.
The course begins with three introductory intensive one-day workshops, which aim to provide students with an overview of the model, therapeutic style and content of initial sessions. This is usually a refresher for more experienced students and sets the scene for identifying students' individual learning targets and goals. Teaching modules are examined by assignments – audio recordings, case reports and practice portfolios for the clinical modules; essays and research presentations for the academic modules. Clinical students will be required to work with at least four clients for at least 16 sessions from assessment to completion or termination of therapy over the duration of the programme.

Lectures are delivered at St Thomas’ Hospital with a short mini module at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Work placements are usually undertaken in the students’ own institution (UK students) or in major London Teaching hospitals.
Students continue to work in a range of nuclear medicine services.

Regular physical activity is one of the greatest investments we can make to improve our wellbeing. Governments recognise this, and the drive to inspire people to be more active and minimise the impact of unhealthy lifestyle choices on health services and society in general has seen the demand for suitably trained professionals soar.
You will examine the importance of physical activity across the lifespan, and you will develop the skills to encourage healthy habits from childhood through to adolescence and into adulthood and older age.
You will work with people of all ages to identify health risks related to sedentary behaviours, and you will design and evaluate interventions to improve quality of life and reduce the risks of obesity, diabetes, mental ill-health and other conditions.
You will benefit from being taught by a highly skilled and research-active teaching team who are world-leading in their field and have vast experience in sport, physical activity, nutrition, education, and health.
Our team of academics include Professor Jim McKenna, the Head of the Active Lifestyles Centre and Professor Paul Gately, who founded the weight management organisation MoreLife in 1999. Both have contributed to seminal government reports and guidance, including the 2007 Physical Activity Guidelines and the International Obesity Task Force and World Health Organization's report on childhood obesity, and both continue to consult to many government agencies, health organisations and corporations throughout the world.
Other staff members work closely with the likes of Leeds Rhinos, Public Health England, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and the NHS, and you will be able to engage and forge contacts with industry professionals during guest lectures.
You will also gain student membership of the Royal Society for Public Health, giving you access to additional continued professional development, the very latest industry information and links to employers.
In the drive to encourage people to be more active, the number of health-related programmes implemented by local authorities, schools, colleges and sports clubs has increased significantly. In turn, this has created a host of career opportunities in private healthcare, the NHS, local government, education and with sports bodies and organisations.
