As a master’s student you can take advantage of our cutting-edge research laboratories, neuroimaging facilities, and resources for observation. Teaching is also informed by our three in-house NHS clinics (Anxiety & Depression, Speech & Language Therapy, Autism and Berkshire Memory & Cognition Clinic), and the world-renowned Charlie Waller Institute for evidence-based psychological treatments.

You will be taught by leading academics who combine research and theory to provide you with the skills to go on to your future career. We will provide you with a modern, wide, evidence-based introduction to psychology as a science, in excellent facilities all set in our lovely Whiteknights campus.

The programme follows the structure of our successful BSc in Psychology, and includes optional specialist modules such as Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for those interested in Clinical Psychology.

Multidisciplinary approach

At Radboud University, we believe that a multidisciplinary approach is necessary to gain the best understanding of human behaviour. We combine knowledge and research methods from the fields of psychology, educational sciences and communication science. These disciplines are not taught separately but instead are brought together in most of our courses, making our approach unique.

Half of the programme consists of research experience. There are many issues you could tackle and a large research faculty you could work with. Our approach to this field

The staff of the Behavioural Science Institute at Radboud University originate from the fields of psychology, educational sciences and communication science. Together they tackle issues regarding human behaviour. We believe that in order to fully understand human behaviour you need to use knowledge from all these fields together instead of separately. For example, looking at a psychological issue from a communication perspective could offer new and valuable insights that will lead to better diagnosis or interventions.

At Radboud University we will not just teach you existing research methods in the different fields. You will also learn to look beyond conventions and combine or adjust methods from other disciplines to enable you to do research that will answer your questions. You will not only become a highly skilled researcher but also an innovative one.

Our research in this field

More than half of the Master’s programme in Behavioural Science consists of research. In the first year you’ll do a minor project in which you choose from a list research themes that are provided by staff members or PhD students.

In the second year, you’ll do a major project in the form of a nine month internship which provides you with the experience - and data - needed to write your Master’s thesis. Most internships are carried out within the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI), working closely with colleagues, many of whom are internationally renowned researchers. However, there is also the option to arrange an internship abroad.

To broaden your scope, we expect you to choose different research themes for the minor and major projects, preferably in different groups within the BSI.

- The role of maternal pregnancy stress and other general children’s health issues

The career prospects of a graduate of Behavioural Science are good; almost 100% of our alumni have a job.

- Skills and knowledge

Besides the necessary theoretical knowledge about behavioural science and training in advanced quantitative data analysis, this programme also offers courses (7 EC in total) that will teach you additional skills that every researcher needs: to understand the ethics of research, to understand the process of academic publishing and grant proposals, and to comment on papers and proposals of others. We also encourage students to participate in workshops, colloquia, symposia and conferences to gain experience in the international academic field of behavioural science.

This innovative programme has been developed through a partnership between The Football Association and the University of Birmingham.

The programme is aimed at physiotherapists and doctors either working within football medicine or interested in moving into football medicine.

The programme is part of a collaboration framework of MSc and MRes programmes between the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences and the College of Medical and Dental Sciences.

The overall aim of the programme is to enable exploration of the theoretical basis of exercise and sports medicine in general and football in particular, and its application to the development of a physiotherapist's and doctor's clinical reasoning. Using the process of clinical reasoning as its framework, the programme will integrate the key issues central to practice in this specialist area, including: clinical assessment, communication skills, accurate diagnosis, differential diagnosis, diagnostics and prognostics, treatment interventions, management approaches, best evidence, evaluation of outcome, strategies to reduce injury time etc.

The programme will facilitate the evaluation of existing evidence through the exploration of the assessment and management of athletes. It will provide students with the opportunity to tailor their learning experience to meet their personal and professional needs, developing their their capacity for leadership within a multidisciplinary team providing clinical management in football. The programme will promote enquiry based learning through a range of strategies including case analysis and problem based learning.

The programme is written in line with the international competencies and standards established by the International Federation of Sports Physiotherapists and the Specialty Training Curriculum for Sports and Exercise Medicine from the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board, and in collaboration with The Football Association and physiotherapists and doctors working within football and other sporting contexts.

The Master of Science programme is aimed at providing knowledge and expertise in the field of structural and non-structural measures for the mitigation of natural and anthropic hazards. It offers a synthesis of fundamental and advanced civil engineering tools for Risk Management, integrated by competences in different areas (land use planning, economics and finance, communication, law, psychology). The graduate in C.E.R.M. deals with the design of structures and infrastructures, planning, control and management of town and land systems, and he/she is able to evaluate the environmental impact of structures and infrastructures.   • Competency in diagnosing and managing the orofacial pain patient.
  • Ability to coordinate the appropriate care of orofacial pain patients, either as a single clinician or within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Expertise in evaluating the treatment outcomes of patients with orofacial pain.
  • Ability to develop and successfully carry out research projects within the field of orofacial pain.

Course format and assessment

Teaching

We will teach you through lectures, tutorials, hands-on training and supervision in clinic. Course material will be available through our online learning environment, King’s E-learning and Teaching Service (KEATS), where you will find information, interactive questions, assignments, bibliographic databases and reading material.

Assessment

Three modules in year one are assessed by written examination and one by 50% case presentation and 50% written examination. In year two, two modules are assessed by 50% case presentation and 50% written examination. The research project is assessed by written dissertation and oral examination.

Career prospects

The Orofacial Pain MSc may contribute to a specialism in oral medicine, oral surgery or restorative dentistry.
