This course provides students with the theoretical foundations of marketing along with an added appreciation of the skills required in solving analytical and practical marketing problems.
Students will consider the use and application of management science techniques in a variety of marketing and business contexts through participation in courses in marketing management, marketing decision analysis, business statistics and forecasting, marketing research methods, and more advanced applications in credit risk management, problem solving and spreadsheet modelling skills and data mining.
This practical application of quantitative marketing, taught alongside the theoretical underpinnings of marketing aptly prepares students for careers as market analysts, business consultants, database managers and marketing researchers.
Learning will primarily be through lectures, set reading, class discussions, exercises, group-work assignments, problem solving in tutorials and case studies. Assessment methods include examinations, assignments, presentations or continuous assessment.

Behavioural Analysis has become a major feature of the work of governments and other organisations in recent years, and has an increasingly high profile as its importance receives wider recognition. Whilst Behavioural Analysis is often thought of as an area of Economic Psychology, it is in fact a mixture of Economics, Psychology, Management and Social Sciences, and with its relevance for the analysis of public policy, political opinions, and spending patterns, it is becoming an increasingly important element of modern organisations and their operations. Behavioural analysis is increasingly popular with financial institutions, marketing, government departments and regional development agencies, such as city regions, and those charged with economic development including international institutions operating in developing countries.
The MSc Behavioural and Economic Science programme provides specific training for specialist roles in behavioural analysis and policy design for applications within the commercial and government sectors. The degree is designed for those with a background in behavioural analysis or decision analysis from Economics, Management, Psychology, Behavioural Science or Decision Sciences (although applicants from other disciplines will be considered based on experience and specific qualifications). It also provides an ideal preparation for those interested in research into modern government, politics, or public policy, and provides the necessary basis for continuation onto research degrees.
Specific public sector employers include the Government Economics Service, Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority and Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) amongst others. Private sector employers include Google, Facebook, JP Morgan, Chase, Morningstar and Vanguard. The area is still growing with the UK government recently introducing capacity for Behavioural Policy advice to be provided to smaller public bodies such as councils. Even small to medium sized enterprises are increasingly using large datasets and performing behavioural analysis to develop their businesses.
The course provides an opportunity to study with staff with significant experience in training and consultancy in applied Behavioural Analysis. The Department does considerable consulting work with a range of private sector clients, and has been one of the principle sites for training work in the area of behavioural policy and analysis for UK government departments on the area of behavioural analysis.
The course covers the theory and methods applied in behavioural analysis, focussing on the development of technical skills and core knowledge of behavioural biases and behavioural policy design. It involves external experts from organisations such as BIT and HMRC in the design or delivery of some of the modules on the programme in order to ensure the relevance of content to current users of behavioural analysis. Students are able to incorporate internships or placements into their studies (subject to any visa restrictions that may apply) and the Business School’s placement unit is able to advise on how students’ applications.
This innovative course has been designed to develop your ability to apply economic analysis to policy issues and business problems, which are often ambiguous and multi-faceted. Although there is a strong theoretical core, the course focus of the course is very much on the practical application of economic techniques to problems, and on developing the ability to communicate the insights that economic analysis can provide.
The International Economic Policy and Analysis MSc programme was uniquely created (and has been maintained) in conjunction with the UK Government Economic Service (GES) since 2012.
The course aims to provide you with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the latest developments in economics, with a focus on practical skills and development of the skills needed by a working economist. It is specifically aimed at those with a genuine interest in the application of economics to real-world situations.
As well as enhancing your ability to apply relevant economic principles in the support of policy and strategy development, the course aims to develop your ability to communicate complex issues to wide audiences, your awareness of significant sources of economic and financial data, the problems faced when carrying out policy evaluation and your capability for self-awareness and group working.
You will gain an understanding of the key concepts in economics that underpin public sector policy and business decision making. This includes the various scenarios where we explore opportunity cost, equilibrium and disequilibrium, strategic interaction, market failure and the related concept of externalities.
You'll develop your analytical skills by applying these concepts to current challenges that face the profession, at both macro and micro levels, and in both private and public sectors. This will provide you with the latest insights drawn from both the academic and practitioner arenas.

Students can apply to London-based organisations and have the flexibility to take their internship in the summer period or alongside their studies.

While this vocationally oriented course develops skills for devising and evaluating policies and strategies, rather than simply training academic economists, several of our recent graduates have also found that it has opened up opportunities for PhD study.
Operational Research (called "Operations Research" in some parts of the world) has been briefly described as the "scientific analysis of decisions". It's concerned with assisting and advising decision-makers in a wide variety of settings.
The MSc in Operational Research aims to realise the potential of graduates, so that you immediately can play an effective role in providing model-based support to managers helping them to make better decisions at an operational/technical level.
You’ll develop a rigorous academic understanding of advanced analytical methods that are used to provide structured and analytical approaches to decision-making. You’ll also develop practical skills in using operational research models to support decision-makers.

Students who complete the Diploma and gain sufficient marks to proceed to the MSc will be expected to undertake a project. The project will be integrated with your employment. You'll have individual personal mentoring to guide you in reflection and learning.

You can start the Certificate programme in October or April. The Diploma course usually runs between September and May, though there is some flexibility with this. It's followed by the project which has a flexible timetable.

It exposes the types of analysis and allows practical experience of tools and methods which are used, ranging from judgemental analysis through mathematical techniques to models and simulations. The course includes judgemental elicitation and analysis techniques, mathematical analysis methods (including optimisation), war gaming and combat modelling, logistics modelling and simulation methods. The use and utility of all the methods are explored through practical exercises and studies.

The aim of the Industrial Advisory Panel, which is common to all components of the AMOR Postgraduate Suite, is to offer advice and input to the Course Director and the teaching team in terms of curriculum content, acquisition skills and other attributes that the practitioner community may be seeking from graduates of the course. Currently the Industrial Advisory Panel for this program has members on it from both Defence Industry (including Cassidian, BAE Systems and AWE) and the MOD.
MSc students must complete a taught phase consisting of 12 standard modules, which includes two core modules (Introduction to Operational Research Techniques and Decision Analysis), plus four advanced modules, followed by an individual thesis in a relevant topic.
Thesis topics will be related to problems of specific interest to students and sponsors or local industry wherever possible. PgDip students are required to undertake the same taught phase as the MSc, but without the individual thesis. PgCert students must complete the core module (Introduction to Operational Research Techniques) together with five other modules; up to three of these may be advanced modules.
