Much of the teaching on this course takes the form of interactive workshops, but there are also lectures from staff and visiting speakers. Lectures, discussions, role-play exercises and seminars are linked with selected case studies and assessments to strengthen your practical analysis and decision-making skills. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in working as part of a team through structured group assignments.
Teaching staff at the Business School are academic researchers and/or from an industry background with an in-depth practical experience of business and management issues. Visiting speakers from business, industry, consultancies and research bodies provide further input.
Each module is assessed individually, generally on the quality of written or visual presentation work, and to some extent on verbal presentations. Assessment methods may include reports, seminar papers, formal written examinations, in-class tests, project work, visual and verbal presentations, workshops, simulations, oral exams (viva) and practical exercises. The majority of assessments are based on individual assignments, but there is some assessed group work.

We offer an International Business in Practice Study Trip module. The purpose of this study trip is to give postgraduate students a hands-on, intensive experience with the ideas and practices of global business. The programme will include presentations from local management executives and experts. Students will have direct interaction with management executives and practices through site visits to major corporations and agencies.
This study trip is voluntary and all costs associated with the trip will need to be funded by you. It is not linked to university assessments in any way. The programme is designed around a set of modules that are common to all our ‘Business with’ Masters pathways. These modules cover general business functions, strategic management and organisational analysis, developing your strategic awareness, leadership potential and understanding of the theory and practice of international business. In the second semester you will be given the opportunity to specialise in Marketing Management.
In the second semester you will build an understanding of the role of relationship marketing, and by doing so, recognise the importance of customer retention and the internal customer. You will also learn about the marketing processes within the context of a globalised world, with an understanding of the business implications. Throughout the course, you can develop an appreciation of the varying approaches to marketing for organisations working within a dynamic global environment and the effect these challenges place upon marketing planning in an international context.
You will also undertake a dissertation in a marketing context, supported by an academic supervisor with relevant expertise from this subject area.
There is also an internship opportunity for an additional fee of £595, payable to our internship provider. Our MSc Marketing Management programme delivers marketing modules with an analytical approach, enhanced by Surrey Business School’s emphasis on innovation and leadership.
The programme covers: marketing ideas plans, strategies, processes and techniques; communication and all customer-facing functions; plus, a range of core concepts from other management disciplines including innovation management.
A key principle of the programme is to deliver a set of theoretical concepts and relate them to practical, real-world marketing challenges that mirror the rapidly changing global environment.

Our marketing graduates who enrol with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) as an Affiliate can study CIM qualifications without having to complete all of the modules. For most qualifications, students will only need to take two assessments instead of the usual three and therefore, students will add an individual award to supplement their degree. There is a fee to join CIM.
