This broad area of study and the terminology applied to it is fluid and expanding. Having culture as the underlying thread, the programme explores areas such as:

This will provide a unique perspective into this field of study, and will examine topics such as mobility of cultural practitioners, cultural identity, intercultural dialogue, mutuality, propaganda, soft power, hegemony, influence and perceptions.

You'll study in the Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE). ICCE's individual and institutional links with an extensive network of organisations, policy advisors and cultural practitioners in those areas in London and in Europe allow you to experience exceptional research and study resources.

ICCE’s established organisational links include, for example, the British Council, Visiting Arts, EUNIC London Hub and Demos. ICCE is also a member of ENCATC (the leading European network on Cultural Management and Cultural Policy education). Modules & Structure

This MA is a 180-credit programme consisting of four 30-credit modules and a 60-credit dissertation.

The two main modules of the programme, Cultural Policy and Practice and Cultural Relations and Diplomacy are complemented by a module on Contemporary Issues in Cultural Policy that brings to the fore present themes that require further study.

The fourth module of the programme is an option from a selection of modules covering arts engagement, media, business, languages and politics - this is designed to allow you to tailor the programme to your own particular skills and/or interests.

The teaching methodologies used in these modules will be conducive to creative and independent in-depth and collaborative learning. They'll culminate in the production of a final dissertation in which you will explore in detail a topic building on your interests and knowledge.

The programme allows and encourages you to engage in work placements while attending the modules. These are not a formal part of the programme, but some support will be provided building on ICCE’s extensive experience of internship management and network of contacts.

The MA Creative and Cultural Industries Management course offers a practical and vocational approach to working in this rapidly developing sector. Enhanced programme flexibility enables you to select a culture sector specialism to suit your interests, which you will take alongside caption: Hadrians Wallcore cultural and creative industries management modules.

The four specialisms available are Music, Festivals and Events; Arts and Media; Cultural Heritage and Museums; and Galleries and Visual Arts. Options are selected during the course Induction phase.

Two of the three modules involve placements in schools and cultural institutions, enabling you to explore your own relationship to influential ideas of art and culture, consider key contemporary issues and debates, and design, implement and evaluate a work-based cultural advocacy initiative.

Precise patterns of attendance and placement design will be negotiated to provide optimum blending with work commitments.

The goals of basic courses is to reinforce competences related to the two souls of the Master Program: Humanities and Management. The courses provide training for skills in art history and in their management and they will give participants the op- portunity to align their competencies and exchange knowledge.

● Art History: seminars, lectures and visits to provide participants with fundamentals of visual arts history

● History of Performing Arts: seminars and lectures to share fundamentals about film, theatre and music history.

Internship

To complete the Master in Arts Management, participants are required to carry out a three-months internship in a cultural institutions or company in one of the above mentioned fields. They will have the chance to be included in the Master Curricu- lum Vitae book, that will be transmitted to the major institutions and organizations in Italy and abroad.

Most undergraduate psychology programmes around the world teach a set of ‘basic psychological findings’. Such findings are usually based on samples of undergraduate students in the US and Northern Europe, and give us few clues as to how psychological processes vary across the world. Many societies have an increasingly multi-cultural nature, which is compounded by the growing contact and interaction between societies with very different cultural traditions.

These changes are raising profound sets of issues about how we, as individuals, understand each other, and how we act in relation to each other in different cultural settings. This course considers the way in which psychological findings may differ across societies, and explores some reasons for this variation. It also aims to provide course participants with the skills necessary to conduct their own research with different ethnic groups and in different cultures.

The programme is designed for those with undergraduate degrees in Psychology (and related subjects) who wish to gain a greater understanding of the role of culture in psychology, and for those already working in professions where psychology is of importance. We also welcome graduates in related subjects who are interested in learning more about culture and psychology, as well as students who might ultimately want to continue on to a PhD programme.

By including materials from across the social sciences, the course aims to utilise the complementary disciplines within the School in order to offer a truly inter-disciplinary perspective.

Assessment
Assessment is by coursework, through the completion of term papers, seen examinations (given out at least a month before the examinations) and poster presentations. A dissertation of approximately 15,000 words is then required.

Graduates from this course will have gained considerable knowledge and expertise in cross-cultural psychology which will enhance their employability in a number of careers. Previous students are now working in major international organisations such as the WHO. Others are continuing their studies, taking PhDs at leading international universities.

Dr Sarah Ralph is a lecturer in Media and Cultural Studies, and her expertise lies in the realm of empirical methods and approaches to the study of production cultures, media audiences and reception.

Dr Ibrahim Seaga Shaw has a background as a reporter, editor, sub editor and correspondent in Sierra Leone, France and the UK, and brings real-life issues to the classroom.

Dr Gabriel Moreno practiced journalism for 13 years, including as a general and financial news correspondent with Reuters news agency in Mexico City. He was awarded a PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication from Westminster University and is currently involved in research projects involving new media and migration, and social media and environmental communication. He became a fellow of the UK’s Higher Education Academy in December 2015.

Teaching And Assessment

You’ll learn through a mix of theory and practice, including taught sessions, field trips, lectures, seminars and group assignments.

You’ll discover the theories and issues informing real-work examples within a range of media and cultural industries and then put these to use in workshop activities which reinforce the links between theory and practice. You will undertake a sustained piece of research in social history on a topic selected by yourself and involving the use of both primary and secondary sources.You will design, plan, manage and complete a sustained research project, presenting your findings both orally and in writing.

The programme offers the possibility of engagement with the study of the cultural sector in developing and managing tourism and hospitality.

Cultural policies designed to support the arts sectors to enhance high value added tourism and to increase lengths of stay and repeat visits are increasingly being adopted by governments worldwide with the support of the tourism and hospitality sector.

This degree applies to those wishing to work in the arts and tourism sectors or perhaps in galleries and theatres associated with the hospitality sector. It is also for art practitioners and cultural professionals who wish to develop careers involving cultural tourism, cultural policy, culture-led regeneration and destination, city and country branding. It is also relevant to work in NGOs or the cultural policy arms of government and intra-governmental organisations and consultancies.

Specialists from academia and industry

The MA is run by the Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) and is designed for students from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds. It is taught by specialists from academia and industry, ensuring a high level synthesis of practice based knowledge and cutting edge research. Both the staff and student body at ICCE have extensive international experience, enhancing peer-to-peer learning and providing an excellent base for networking and gaining contacts worldwide.

Studying the role of culture in tourism in a London setting is a unique experience, providing access to some of the world’s most renowned culture and event led regeneration projects that include the legacy of the London Olympics and many other major projects.
