This Pre-Masters programme is aimed at postgraduate students who are considering undertaking an MA in subjects related to the cultural and creative industries, but need a year to develop or consolidate their language skills in academic English.
You'll also have the opportunity to study some background theory, and to familiarise yourself both with ways of working in British academic culture and in the standards required at Masters degree level.
If you wish to go on to study either at Goldsmiths or elsewhere in Britain you'll be given help and support in finding an appropriate programme.

Half of the programme is made up of English for Academic Purposes modules, concentrating on different areas of language development, made up of:
Two further modules consider interdisciplinary themes and integrate academic content with language and study skills development. These modules provide a useful background for students in European intellectual approaches and some key theories of relevance to a range of academic disciplines.
Finally, you will take two introductory modules in the Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship.
You will have a personal tutor and will receive support in researching and considering the MA degree options for your future studies.
You are encouraged throughout the programme to work independently and in particular to use the resources available in the Goldsmiths Library.
Continuous assessment includes regular seminar presentations and researched essays. There will also be written, listening and oral examinations.
Credits and levels of learning
An undergraduate honours degree is made up of 360 credits – 120 at Level 4, 120 at Level 5 and 120 at Level 6. If you are a full-time student, you will usually take Level 4 modules in the first year, Level 5 in the second, and Level 6 modules in your final year. A standard module is worth 30 credits. Some programmes also contain 15-credit half modules or can be made up of higher-value parts, such as a dissertation or a Major Project.

You'll be supervised by a full-time member of staff, generally agreed during the preliminary discussions regarding your research with the ICCE Director. PhD theses are up to a maximum of 100,000 words.
You should aim to complete and submit your PhD thesis within the time-frame specified by Goldsmiths. This is normally three to four years for full-time students and four to six years for part-time.
A thesis for the award of MPhil may be submitted after two years of full-time or three years of part-time study. Registration can be changed from full-time to part-time status, and vice-versa, with the agreement of your supervisor. You'll be required to complete the appropriate form for change of status available from the Admissions Office or from the ICCE Administrator.
All students enrolled in the MPhil/PhD programme are initially required to attend a weekly seminar in research methodology conducted by the Goldsmiths Graduate School. These seminars are designed to bring together research students with diverse interests in a cooperative and stimulating environment.
Its objectives include training students for the Spring Review Week, written and oral presentations, preparation for upgrading procedures and publication of articles.

This programme offers you the chance to engage with the key issues in the formulation of arts and cultural policy and the administration of the arts, in particular those relating to the performing arts.
This MA from the Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship will enable you to develop an awareness of and a critical approach to the discipline, by studying arts policy and practice in Europe, audience development, fundraising, arts education, cultural tourism, regeneration through arts, arts diversity and social inclusion, copyright and the role of the arts in relations and diplomacy as well as national and cultural identity.

The dynamics of the contemporary international environment, complex and interconnected as it is, presents an array of challenges for policy analysts, decision makers and scholars alike. This situation is especially relevant to the Middle East and Mediterranean regions as areas fraught with chronic tension, domestic and international conflict, and which face several acute social and economic issues.
Against this backdrop, the new graduate program in Diplomacy Studies is intended to elucidate the role of diplomacy as a main vehicle and mechanism for systematically addressing the broad cluster of issues that affect the entire region, and which can no longer be effectively dealt with exclusively from a narrow unilateral or bilateral vantage point.
The program is primarily intended for practitioners who are employed in a range of public and private international, transnational and multilateral organizations, as well as for future diplomats, researchers, and academics abroad and in Israel.
The focus of the program is such that it will bring to the fore the fundamental role of collaborative diplomatic mechanisms and as such is designed to provide students with new insights, concepts and analytical tools for fully understanding the enhanced functions of diplomacy in this new setting. The program is intended to enable students to identify effective solutions for a broad range of political, cultural and economic issues with which they will be faced, and for their continued involvement as bureaucrats, officials and decision makers in the context of complex negotiating situations and policy implementation. The one-year program is taught in English over three consecutive semesters from October to August. Exceptional students wishing to apply to the thesis track will need, upon acceptance, to submit a research thesis within one year of completing their coursework.
Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded an MA in Political Science, with a specialization in Diplomacy Studies from the School of Political Sciences and the Division of International Relations.
Graduates of the program will be well placed to pursue careers in the field of foreign relations at their home countries and with international institutions. Graduates will also be well placed within international NGO’s who act as points of contact between different countries, both in the capacity of mediators and of educators

Students will have an opportunity to experience the practices of diplomatic processes first-hand via practicum, designed to help integrate the insights and lessons drawn from the courses into a sophisticated and analytics perspective in the real world. Within the framework of this practicum, students will participate in an internship under the auspices of institutions and organizations, which address issues and predicaments that are relevant to diplomatic initiatives and processes (both unilateral, bilateral and multilateral), with emphasis on the Middle-East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
