The course is offered in both full-time and part-time mode in block learning format and
each has a specific attendance pattern:
The full-time mode requires all modules to be taken within one academic year (50 weeks) including the dissertation which is taken in Semester 3 (between May and September). In full-time block mode students attend 4 blocks of 5 consecutive days at approx. 3 week intervals across semesters 1 and 2 with attendance required for oral presentations and/or coursework submissions during the examinations period between semesters.
The periods between blocks are used to undertake assignments and coursework during which the student is encouraged to maintain contact with the Module Coordinator and classmates via on-line discussion forums such as Blackboard Collaborate.
Your course is professionally accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
In addition, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Association for Project Management (APM), the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering (CIBSE) have considered the award to be of significant assistance for individuals in gaining professional qualifications on a case by case basis.

The MSc in Construction Economics and Management equips graduates with the skills to become senior managers, policy advisers and decision-makers in any branch of the construction industry. It can also provide teachers and researchers in these subject areas with professional academic development.
This RICS accredited programme aims to develop students' knowledge and skills under two mutually supporting themes, for which the School of Construction & Project Management has an international reputation:
Construction is taken in its widest sense to include design, infrastructure and the supply chain.
Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.
The programme consists of four core modules (60 credits), four optional/elective modules (60 credits) and a dissertation (60 credits).

The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars and group work on case studies, exercises and problems. Lectures include industry guest speakers. Assessment is through written examination, term papers and the dissertation.

The career options for graduates are varied, and many students go on to work for construction, engineering and design enterprises, professional consultants and commercial research organisations, and client enterprises with significant project portfolios such as retailers or banks. Graduates are keenly recruited by many of the UK's very best construction-sector firms. The MSc can be used as a foundation for MPhil/PhD research.
Recent career destinations for this degree
The programme offers an understanding of financial and other kinds of management within the context of the project, the project-based firm and the construction industry in its widest sense. There are some elements which can be put to use straight away while other elements of a strategic nature will prove useful as graduates move into more senior management roles. It is an attractive graduate qualification either for those trained in a technical discipline without previous economic training or those trained in economics or finance without previous exposure to construction.

Our postgraduate masters programmes feature a mix of core and optional modules, allowing you to tailor your degree towards your individual personal development needs and career ambitions. You will complete up to 10 taught modules during your programme, totalling 180 credits. One module usually equates to 20 credits or 10 hours of work per week. How we assess you
You will learn and be assessed through a wide variety of teaching methods which vary depending on your chosen Masters programme. These include online materials and multimedia content, guest lectures, individual and group assignments, case studies, field visits, dealing room simulations, presentations, applied projects, consultancy work and examinations.
On average examinations form around 70% of the assessed work with the remaining 30% coming from coursework, including a written dissertation or project depending on your chosen programme. The exam period falls between April and June in the summer term, with students taking an average of 5 or 6 exams. Graduation normally takes place in December.
While postgraduate students are self-motivated and determined individuals, study at this level can present additional pressures which we take seriously. Lecturers are available to discuss the content of each module and your personal tutor can meet with you regularly to discuss any additional issues. Each pathway of our MSc Information Management is designed to give a rigorous academic understanding of real-life and current business issues. The Master of Construction (Quantity Surveying) is one of the first construction-focused management programmes in New Zealand. It will provide you with the advanced skills and knowledge required of senior quantity surveyors and commercial managers.
Massey’s Master of Construction is the only postgraduate qualification in New Zealand whose courses are specifically developed for construction. You will still gain from Massey’s expertise in related areas such as engineering and business, but always with a construction view.
The quantity surveyor is the financial expert of a construction project - preparing the feasibility studies, quantifying and measuring what is to be built, cost estimation and budgets, preparing the tender documents, advising on legal aspects, valuing the work, advising the client on payments and finalising the final accounts.
