Programme Information

Transitions Dance Company has gained an international reputation for the technical excellence of its dancers and the originality of the work it performs. This programme will give you the opportunity to work with outstanding international choreographers, culminating in an international tour. In the past, choreographers have included Rui Horta, Liz Aggis, Della Davidson, Yolande Snaith, Lea Anderson, Mark Murphy, Jamie Watton, Jasmin Vardimon and Jan De Schynkel.

As a member of Transitions Dance Company, you will work within a professional company environment, taking daily advanced level classes in both contemporary dance and classical ballet. These will be supported by classes in fitness and somatic techniques. You will work with professional performers and dance educators, rehearse repertory pieces, and actively engage with professional choreographers in the creation of new works. The company tours nationally and internationally, giving you a professional performance experience in a diverse and challenging repertory.

Programme Content

This challenging experience will help you grow into a performer who will contribute effectively and creatively to the profession, not only as a practitioner but as an articulate advocate for performance and performance practice. By advancing your skills, you'll have the opportunity to formulate a deeper understanding of the technical and artistic complexities inherent in performance. You'll be encouraged to critically reflect on your development in the studio and in wider theoretical contexts.

The MA Performance Dance has grown from a longstanding tradition of postgraduate study in dance at Chichester. Offering dance graduates as well as dance artists, at different stages of their artistic lives, the chance to undertake a Masters Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in the UK’s leading Practice as Research department.[ae1] The programme enables students to develop their dance practice as a performer working intensively with a wide variety of established and up and coming international choreographers and performing with the University’s touring performance company: mapdance.

Course content
The MA performers route is led by mapdance company Artistic Directors, Yael Flexer and Detta Howe.
Working intensively with international guest choreographers, students develop their technical and performance skills and deepen understanding of the creative process through experiencing varied choreographic methodologies and artistic approaches.
mapdance operates as a professional company with daily technique classes and rehearsals. From mid-February to May, the company tours nationally and internationally whilst also offering educational workshops.

The 2016/17 Repertory includes new commissions and from Shobana Jeyasingh, Lea Anderson, Hagit Yakira and Cai Tomos.
The Techniques for Performance module accompanying the repertory module (and compulsory for performers route) focuses on excellence in contemporary dance performance involving daily technical training in various dance techniques including release and contemporary techniques, contact improvisation, pilates and Ballet work. This module normally runs autumn and spring semesters.

The MA Performance Dance operates in the context of a professional performance programme and a series of presentations by visiting artists and researchers.

Guest lecturers on the MA have included practitioners and curators all working at the edges of dance research.
There are also opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research with interactive technologies or to market yourself professionally as an artist using DVD and website technologies.

Teaching and Assessment
Assessment on the MA performers route is based on four core modules, Repertory (60 credits), Techniques for Performance (30 credits) Reflective Practice (30 credits) and Dissertation (60 credits).
Assessment on the postgraduate diploma performers route is based on two core modules, Repertory (60 credits), Techniques for Performance (30 credits) and one optional module.

Assessment Techniques for Performance is continuous, that is process based.
Similarly the Repertory module is continuously assessed however the assessment is comprised by marks given by guest choreographers during the creation process and marks given by both Artistic Directors in rehearsal and on tour assessing both process and performance.

The historical period we live in will be certainly remembered for a long time, partly for being longer than the initial 2007 predictions, and partly for the seriousness of the recession itself. ISMM is very different to any other academic course: it combines traditional teaching material with a series of industrial visits, some of which will take place overseas. The course members work a full industrial week and conform to business dress codes. This intensive, practical programme gives direct experience of many different industries, cultures and working environments, and the projects present real challenges in genuine industrial and business environments. The aim of the course is to equip numerate graduates with the skills, personal development and industrial experience to be immediately effective in their early careers in industry.

ISMM will broaden your perspective and experience and open the door to a wide range of industrial careers. Many blue chip companies recognise the value of the course and target our graduates. Course detail

During the year you will acquire a working understanding of the fundamentals of a business enterprise, with a particular emphasis on manufacturing disciplines. You will visit up to forty companies, large and small, chosen to cover all industrial sectors; you will absorb the different cultures and learn to identify strengths and weaknesses. By the end of the course you will be in a perfect position to choose your career direction.

Format

Teaching is delivered through a variety of media. During Cambridge termtimes, there will be traditional academic lectures and interactive seminars; the dissertation is based in one of the Institute for Manufacturing's research groups and will involve normal graduate-level supervision. However, much of the learning during the course takes place during the industrial visits (of which there are approximately forty annually), and on the projects themselves. During the projects, students can expect to receive substantial 'supervisory' feedback from their line managers and colleagues. Academic assessment of the course is split into three components: examinations on module material; assessment of project reports; examination of the dissertation.

Placements

In addition to the series of industrial visits, students will undertake four two-week industrial placements over the course of the programme. During this time they will be working on live business/technical issues relevant to the company, and will be treated as an employee. These placements will terminate in a presentation to the Senior Management of the company, and in the writing of a handover report that will be examined as part of the course assessment.

Assessment

All students will be required to write a dissertation of no greater than 15,000 words. Achieving a passing mark on this dissertation is a precondition for obtaining the degree.

All students are required to write four project reports, each of which will be based on two weeks of project work on an issue relevant to a host company.

Four taught modules will be assessed through written assessments under timed conditions.
At the discretion of the Examiners, candidates may be required to take an additional oral examination on the work submitted during the course, and on the general field of knowledge within which it falls.

Students can expect to receive reports at least termly on the Cambridge Graduate Supervision Reporting System. They will have access to a University supervisor for their dissertation, and can expect to receive input from their line managers during project placements.

Continuing

The MPhil is a professional practice programme and is not specifically designed to lead on to doctoral research. Nevertheless, students wishing to apply for continuation to a PhD in Engineering at Cambridge would normally be expected to attain an overall mark of at least 70%.

Funding Opportunities

Bursaries are available to two categories of applicant.

Category A: Bursaries of between £1,200 and £1,800 are available to successful applicants who either (i) have UK citizenship; or (ii) have settled status in the UK, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands (for a purpose other than full-time education) for the three years prior to the 1 September immediately preceding the course.

Category B: Successful applicants who have secured sufficient funding from studentship providers to cover the standard University Composition Fee rate, but not the additional cost, may receive a bursary to cover the discrepancy.

In addition, true to its international vocation, EMLUX has developed a session in Paris, France, with a focus on French luxury that during the past edition was in collaboration with the University of Sciences-Po. The session included not only lectures by French brands such as Lanvin and Chloé, but also a focus on the Champagne and jewellery market, with a visit to the Van Cleef&Arpels atelier and boutique.

With these needs in mind, the MSc Accounting and Finance programme at Bangor is designed to develop participants’ existing skills through a scheme of specialist advanced study. An important objective is to provide participants with relevant analytical training, so that they are familiar with the latest theoretical and practical developments relating to accounting and finance. Course structure

Each module is delivered weekly over a period of 12 weeks. Each weekly session typically consists of a one-hour knowledge cast session led by the tutor, a one-hour seminar session, where the topic will be explored in-depth, and two hours of various other activities such as group activities and/or workshop sessions, directed self-study and presentations.

You will be assigned a personal tutor, who will be able to review and discuss your progress and offer advice throughout your studies.

We use audio visual materials in a range of ways to bring the curriculum to life. Despite the diversity of our study groups, there is one thing that unites them all and this is the motivation to give their career a different direction. And this is what our graduates 2013 achieved in terms of career change/transition: 50% changed position and industry, 27 % changed position in the same industry and 4% changed position within the same company. So all in all 81% of our graduates successfully achieved a career change.

What most of our international candidates intrigues about studying for an MBA in Germany and in Berlin is the opportunity to work for a company in Germany after graduation. Of our international graduates 2013 59% achieved this goal.

Living the international approach

The MBA in International Management focuses on leadership responsibilities and consulting activities in international businesses and organisations. The programme systematically examines all corporate areas – from market and financial aspects to organisational challenges as well as steering businesses in international markets.

Through the close cooperation with our international partner universities, students on this programme can not only enrich their intercultural experience on visits abroad, but also take modules in specialised areas there. This international approach is equally evident in the content of the lectures and seminars, and in the high proportion of modules taught in English.

MBA in Health Care Management

The part-time MBA Health Care Management is designed to strengthen and expand management skills for those active in the health care sector. The programme not only provides an interdisciplinary approach to management tasks, but also fosters an enhanced awareness of the trends emerging in academia, science, politics and society likely to influence the future shape of the health sector. As a graduate of this programme, you will have learnt to apply innovative and solution-directed approaches and ideas to meet the demands created by a changing health care system and take the requisite strategic decisions for organisations in the health care sector.

A particular emphasis is placed on developing communicative and social competences. The Leadership Skills seminars, such as Leading Teams, Negotiations or Competence Development (Kode®), on the MBA in Health Care Management support your development as a manager with strong leadership qualities.

The lectures and seminars are held in German.
