The continued digitisation of the multimedia industry and the different types and flexibility of digital transmission of media has resulted in the diversification of multimedia. Many existing multimedia organisations have found it very difficult to keep up with the incredible pace of change, and this is resulting in the emergence of a great number of small and medium sized specialist multimedia organisations. The growth of these multimedia design companies means there is a growing demand for artistically talented and technically skilled graduates, who show artistic design talent.

This new course provides a unique mix of multimedia and interaction design processes, design of 3D virtual reality and animation media, AV media and effects, and intelligent media combined with real and virtual studio and on-location multimedia creation. It not only focuses on the creative art and design aspects of digital media, but also on the theory and practice of the technical tools and techniques required for creating intelligent, interactive real and virtual reality media through the development of design and technology knowledge, understanding and skills.

The M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy at the American Graduate School in Paris is a two-year program qualifying you for a broad range of careers in international affairs, from local governance to foreign affairs, to international development, human rights advocacy, global communications, international business, and many other areas involving interaction with different countries and cultures.


:A US-accredited Program in France:

The M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy at AGS combines the wide recognition of an American degree with the unique experience of a Paris-based program. It is accredited in the US as an affiliated program of Arcadia University (Pennsylvania) and taught at the American Graduate School in Paris, a private nonprofit institution of higher education recognized by the French Ministry of Higher Education.

Classes are taught in the heart of Paris. The French capital – which is also one of Europe’s capitals and an international hub – is an ideal location for the study of international affairs. The program takes full advantage of this through guest speakers, site visits, and networking events. :Internship:

While in the Master’s program, you have the opportunity to perform an internship in a Paris-based organization: diplomatic/consular mission, intergovernmental organization, NGO, multinational corporation news media outlet or another type of relevant international institution.

Internships are optional and can be pursued either for credit (then counting as a an elective course in the curriculum) or not-for-credit. :Combined M.A.-Ph.D. program:

AGS offers a combined M.A.-Ph.D. program per the American model. The combined M.A.-Ph.D. program allows you to credit the required courses toward both degrees simultaneously. Ph.D. candidates having successfully completed their M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy at AGS would therefore be exempt from taking the required courses, and would only have to take seven elective courses for the Ph.D. program. Note that admission into the Ph.D. program is not automatic after obtaining the M.A.

Timeframe options

Full-time two-year track: the program is designed to be completed in two years on a full-time basis, involving nine to twelve hours of classes per week in addition to readings, assignments, and the research and writing of the thesis.

Accelerated 18-month intensive track: You have the option to complete the program in three semesters instead of four. You would then be required to take twelve to fifteen hours of classes per week.

Part-time track: EU students and other students who do not need to be enrolled on a full-time basis for visa purposes may undertake the program over a longer period of time on a part-time basis. This allows working professionals and other interested candidates to combine the program with other activities.

This MSc is for students who want to receive specialised scientific training in physical hazards that pose large risks to communities living throughout the world. Understanding and managing risk is ultimately about choice. All elements of society, from individuals to governments, must make decisions – conscious or not – about the ways in which they perceive, interpret, balance, and mitigate risk. Risk permeates our day-to-day lives in ways that are now recognised to be much more complex than the hazard-vulnerability paradigm, which dominated risk research until the 1990s, recognised. A deeper understanding of the nature of risk, its emergence, and its interface and position within societies, has emphasised the need to take a much more complex view in which a general understanding of the ways in which risk is generated, experienced and managed needs to be combined with a specific understanding of particular science or policy areas.

The primary aim of this Masters programme is to equip students with a general understanding of risk; whilst simultaneously providing specific training in elements of risk-related research. This will be achieved through an interdisciplinary framework for understanding risk from a variety of perspectives. Students will learn theoretical and practical approaches to identifying and framing risk, as well as the underlying physical and social mechanisms that generate it. They will also examine the relationship of risk to knowledge and policy, and will be made aware of the array of advanced tools and techniques to assess the physical and social dimensions of risk under conditions of uncertainty. This MA degree programme is designed for students who wish to explore the social dimensions of risk and resilience. The Department of Geography is especially well-suited to examine these in relation to security- and health-related risk, but students are encouraged to develop their thinking in relation to any aspect of risk, including, for example, climate risk and disaster risk reduction. For students interested in security-related risk, the MA programme offers in-depth and advanced understanding on geo-political security challenges and politics, including the ways in which they are governed increasingly through the prism of risk. The course responds to the growing realisation that many risks are being created through social processes bound to questions of security, including the ways that risk techniques are emerging and being employed as a means of securing uncertain futures. Since the 9/11 attacks in New York City and the 7/7 bombings in London, governments have become more concerned with terrorist threats to security. Surveillance has become more commonplace, preventing some risks while also creating new ones never before seen in society.

For students interested in health-related risk, the MA programme offers advanced training in research methods on the determinants of health and well-being, and their implications for health policy and service provision. Led in part by experts in population health from a social science and public health perspective, the MA programme responds to the observation that we often overlook the critical role played by communities in creating and managing risks, and that we need to develop new approaches to building community resilience. Students learn about the 'social determinants' associated with public health risks including unemployment and poverty. The socioeconomic impacts of financial crises, for example, have large implications for public health risk creating new challenges for research and governance. Students will be trained in both quantitative and qualitative methods to learn how to produce evidence relating to the wider determinants of health that is likely to benefit population health. Graduates from this programme will be well-suited to the needs of social and community work, to health professionals, and the pursuit of research degrees.

*Combined Studies is the award for students whose work is not covered by any of the others.

Here are the units you will study:

Accredited Prior Learning (APL): This allows you to receive credit for the qualifications you already have and for experience that has given you the learning equivalent to academic qualifications. This can include in-service training courses and qualifications, as well as learning from on-the-job experience. To claim credit for experiential learning you have to submit a portfolio of evidence matching your knowledge and skills to units in the University's Taught Units Database. The maximum APL credit you can receive is two thirds of the credit for the award. Prior Learning Portfolios should be submitted as soon as possible, to allow time for assessment before registration.

Learning Management: This is a credit-rated unit. It is the linking thread for your studies. In this unit, you will write a learning contract and amend it as necessary if circumstances change. You will work to the contract plan and deliver your evidence (reports, reviews or other items) on the dates you have specified.

Work-based Learning Projects: These usually make up the bulk of the learning contract. They must involve new learning for you, so they cannot be simply the activities involved in your regular job. However, they should be of value to your employer as well as yourself and you should be able to carry out much of the project work in normal working hours.

Taught Units: Units from the University of Portsmouth or other higher education institutions can be included in your programme. They are a good way of acquiring new knowledge in a structured way. They are delivered as part of the University's normal teaching provision and are not run by the Partnership Programme.

Programme Assessment

You will set your own learning objectives, course content and timetable. It is compulsory that some of your learning is via work-based learning projects while taught units and other training programmes provide additional and supported learning.

We set the framework for your degree and assess your work, but you choose what to learn, how you will learn and what evidence you will deliver for assessment. We ensure that you achieve the standard appropriate to your award through a process of learning management.

-This is an industry-focused programme, developed in conjunction with CENSIS, an Innovation Centre established to maximise the growth potential of Scottish companies operating in the sensor systems market. It will appeal to graduates seeking to develop sensor and imaging systems (SIS) skills that can be used in a range of end markets and applications.
-SIS is key enabling technology to achieve quality, efficiency and performance across all key markets – from transport, security and oil and gas, through to agriculture, the built environment and life sciences. The underlying requirement across of these sectors is the same: to sense, measure, process, communicate and visualise in a way that provides valuable and actionable information based on data.
-Sensing is essential for advances in research across all fields of physics, engineering and chemistry, and is enhanced when multiple sensing functions are combined into arrays to enable imaging. The course will provide you with an in-depth working knowledge of the United Kingdom and European Union legislation and case law in the employment sphere. It is divided into four broad subject areas: individual employment relations; equality at work; termination of employment and individual dispute resolution; and key themes in employment law. Clinical psychology training in the UK involves the completion of a three-year training programme leading to a doctorate in clinical psychology and eligibility to apply for chartered clinical psychologist status. The training is funded by the National Health Service (NHS) and almost all trainees go on to work in the NHS after qualifying. Entry to these programmes is highly competitive and applicants must have good academic and research skills as well as relevant work experience, usually two years in a paid, full-time assistant psychologist position or equivalent. The MSc aims to provide students with a profile of academic knowledge and research skills which, combined with relevant work experience, will equip them to make a credible application for clinical psychology training, either in the UK or elsewhere.

About the School of Psychology
The School of Psychology at Bangor, which was ranked in the Top 20 in the UK in the most recent Research Exercise Framework with 89% of research rated either 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent', brings together a large group of outstanding scientists with international research reputations in clinical psychology, neuropsychology and clinical and cognitive neuroscience. A number of staff also hold appointments as consultant psychologists or medical consultants with the NHS and contribute to clinical practice as well as to the training of clinical psychologists, medical students and NHS staff. The School runs its own clinical psychology training programme, leading to the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Key research strengths within the clinical psychology domain include dementia, neuropsychology and rehabilitation, learning disability, developmental disorders, addictions, and cognitive-behavioural approaches. Close links with other departments and with NHS services produce tremendous opportunities for collaborative clinical psychology research. The School supports the practical implementation of research findings to improve patient care by hosting groups such as the Dementia Services Development Centre Wales.

The School has an extensive library of psychological tests and measures. Participant recruitment is facilitated through the availability of research panels for neurological patients and people with dementia, as well as student and community participation panels, supported by the School’s full-time patient co-ordinator. Course Structure
The course includes three components: content modules, research methods modules, and a research thesis. Content and methods modules are all 20 credit modules and the research thesis is worth 60 credits. Students achieving 120 credits on the taught modules, but not completing a research thesis, may exit with a Postgraduate Diploma. The content modules are designed to provide an in-depth look at theory, evidence and practice in clinical psychology.

The course lasts one full calendar year if taken full-time and is also available part-time. During Semester 1 and Semester 2 you will combine taught modules with work on your research project. During the summer period all your time is devoted to completing and writing up the research project.

A variety of teaching approaches are used including lectures, case presentations, small-group sessions and seminars, and individual or group supervision. Assessment will include coursework and examinations, and the research thesis.

Teaching And Assessment

The structure of this course has been designed to focus on engineering issues and processes, and how they apply to those in management positions.

This course incorporates six taught modules: research methods, project, programme and portfolio management; project change, risk and opportunities management; technology entrepreneurship and product development; engineering management data analysis and sustainable development for engineering practitioners.

Throughout the duration of this course you will build core skills in key areas such as management, business, finance and computing, providing you with a strong understanding of the day-to-day processes that underpin the smooth running of a successful organisation.

This course is primarily delivered by lectures and supporting seminars such as guided laboratory workshops or staffed tutorials. Assessments are undertaken in the form of exams, assignments, technical reports, presentations and project work.

On completion of all taught modules you will undertake a substantial piece of research around a subject of particular interest to you and your own career aspirations.

Learning Environment

Throughout the duration of your course you will have access to our dedicated engineering laboratories that are continuously updated to reflect real-time industry practice.

Our facilities include mechanical and energy systems experimentation labs, rapid product development and performance analysis, materials testing and characterisation, 3D digital design and manufacturing process performance.

You will be given the opportunity to get hands-on with testing, materials processing, moulding, thermal analysis and 3D rapid manufacture to help you create the products and systems required for the projects you will work on during your course.

Your learning journey will also be supported by technology such as discussion boards and video tutorials. You will also participate in IT workshops where you will learn how to use the latest industry-standard software.

Videos of lectures will on many occasions be made available through Panopto video software to further support teaching delivery.
