These Law (LLB) degree programmes provide a liberal education in Law, or in Law combined with another discipline, to promote such an awareness and to allow those who so wish to progress to careers in the legal professions.

This course is especially designed for people who have previously undertaken higher education and wish to study for a bachelor degree in Law. This may include:

Graduates who have successfully completed an honours degree in another subject at Bangor or another accredited institution
IELTS 6.5 (International Candidates)
Equivalent experience
As this is a qualifying law degree, on a successful completion of the 2 year programme, LLB graduates may progress onto a Legal Practice Course (LPC) to become a solicitor or onto BVC training to become a barrister.

In each academic year, students will undertake modules to the value of 120 credits in a combination of law courses addressing the issues of Public Law, Private Law and Property Law.

The first year involves the study of 6 compulsory double-modules (20 credits each) in law across Semesters 1 and 2. The second year will also consist of three compulsory double-modules and three optional modules from an approved list of modules according to students’ individual interests.

Assessment
Each module is assessed separately by means of course work and end of module examination. In Year 1, course work will account for 25% and examinations for 75% of the final mark, whilst in Year 2 and 3, course work will normally account for 33% and examinations for 67% of the final mark. The pass mark in all assessment is 40%.

Second year and final year grades will both contribute to the final degree classification. At the end of Year 3, your final degree classification depends on your overall mark: a weighted average of your Year 2 average mark (one-third weighting) and your Year 3 average mark (two-thirds weighting).

Entry Requirements

All applicants should meet the following essential criteria:
- GCSE grade B or above in English Language and mathematics and a grade C or above in science (or a standard equivalent) on entry to the programme. Students studying to teach in Welsh medium schools will also need a GCSE grade C or above in Welsh (first language).

- Applicants who have achieved a grade C or above in English Language and mathematics or equivalent on application will be considered for interview. Applicants will need to have made arrangements to resit the GCSEs or equivalent in order to obtain a B grade and indicate this on the UCAS Teacher Training application. If successful at interview, applicants will be offered a place subject to the B attainment. Please note, if you are taking a GCSE equivalent qualification, do not choose the option 'Equivalent' on the UTT application as this suggests you are applying to sit an internal test with Cardiff Met which we do not offer, you will need to select 'Other'.

- Good honours degree in an area related to primary education, of at least 2:2 classification; or any honours degree of at least 2:2 classification where an A level grade C or above (or equivalent) has been obtained in a primary curriculum subject area. Access to HE programmes are considered as an equivalent to A level within a relevant subject where 15 Merits have been achieved at Level 3. CACHE Level 3 Diplomas at grade C are also considered as well as Pearson BTEC (QCF)/OCR/NQF Level 3 Diplomas within Childcare at Merit Profile.

- Recent and relevant experience in a mainstream school across the primary age range. This should be for a minimum of ten days and taken place within the 12 months prior to attending interview. Evidence of this MUST be included on the UCAS Teacher Training application. Please include details within the work experience section of the UCAS Teacher Training form. Should applicants reach the interview stage, they will be required to bring evidence of the experience with them. This will be in the form of a reference from the head teacher of the school where the experience takes place, on headed paper and signed off by the head teacher.

- A strong personal statement indicating the applicant's potential to undertake the PGCE Primary Programme. The statement should demonstrate the breadth of knowledge and personal experience gained in primary education to date and how this has equipped the applicant to potentially be an effective primary teacher. A high standard of written English/Welsh is essential.

- The principal referee must be an academic who is most able to comment on the applicant's academic and vocational abilities. An academic reference for those applicants who have undertaken their degree more than 5 years in not required although one is preferred if this can be obtained. For those applicants whose HEI reference is more than 8 years old a reference from a more recent educational professional such as a head teacher is required. ​Course Content​​

- School Based Component
The School based component is undertaken in our excellent range of SEWCTET partnership schools and is an integral part of the programme. Students will spend a total of 120 days in school, which is predominantly arranged on a 4:1 split. This means that Monday – Thursday is spent on school placement whilst Friday is spent in university. This allows for clear links to be made between theory and practice and for the skills associated with being a reflective practitioner to be developed.

A key part of the development of the reflective practitioner is enquiry based learning to encourage student teachers to reflect critically on learners, their own practice, and to develop an independent, enquiring approach to their professional development. This is achieved through the completion of “Learning Packages” that focus on key educational priority aspects. The packages scaffold the student teacher in identifying their own areas of interest and to improve their practice in systematic ways, as they are more able to closely examine the issues and acquire newfound knowledge that is readily retained.

- University Based Sessions
The university-based sessions include either experience in the Areas of Learning outlined in the Foundation Phase or the subjects outlined in the National Curriculum orders. All university-based modules are studied at Master's level, allowing 60 credits to be achieved. The module ‘Learning and Teaching’ consists of three constituent parts:
- Learning & Teaching 1: Professional Studies
- Learning & Teaching 2: Literacy and Numeracy
- Learning & Teaching 3: Curriculum focus

All parts of the programme complement each other and specific links are made with the School Experience module. The module as a whole develops students’ conceptual understanding of fundamental principles of primary education and pedagogical aspects related specifically to Foundation Phase or Key Stage 2 (depending on route chosen).

- Time commitment required
The school-based element requires students to be in school for the normal working school day as well as additional time before and after school for preparation and meetings.

Employability & Careers​

Successful completion of the programme will lead to the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and recommendation to the General Teaching Council for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and provides opportunities for employment at the primary level.

Course description
The postgraduate programmes follow a fixed selection of eight core taught units centred on research skills and relevant technical units. The Research Methods unit aims to equip the students with the necessary skills for planning a research programme, formulating a hypothesis, developing and extending their knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods, and evaluating the outcome of the research project.

The project unit is an individual submission of an investigation into a specific area of the programme
studied, providing the student with the opportunity to pursue a programme of independent study. The work is to be of an investigative nature having an experimental, analytical, computer based or fieldwork input.

- Digital signal processing
This module introduces the theory behind digital signal processing and how DSP can be implemented in real-time. You will gain an understanding of how to program hardware to perform fundamental DSP algorithms such as filtering and spectral analysis. - Pattern recognition and machine learning
This module introduces the fundamentals of both statistical learning theory and practical approaches for solving pattern recognition problems. Further, it consolidates lectures with experimental computer-based assignments to inculcate the basics of machine learning and classification. The module covers the fundamentals of pattern recognition and provides the essential background to machine learning and classification.

- Advanced instrumentation and control
This module develops advanced techniques in data acquisition and manipulation required for instrumentation and control applications. Further, it consolidates lectures with experimental computer-based assignments using industry standard hardware and software (NI DAQ and LabView). The module develops your knowledge and experience in data acquisition and virtual instrumentation used in Industry for control purposes.

- Advanced power electronics and renewable energy systems
The material in this module is divided into two parts. The first part covers the analysis and operation of power electronics and machines and their application in the areas of power conversion, power conditioners and electrical machine drives mostly, found on the 'load' side of the electrical power system but sometimes integrated into the supply network. This part will also include elements of computer control systems that are designed to produce non-sinusoidal waveforms and methods of dealing with undesirable harmonics and their effects on the power network. The second part of the module will focus on renewable energy and sustainability. This will include: solar cells, biomass, wind and wave power; intelligent environmental sensing and feedback (in areas of pollution, petroleum, energy consumption, etc.); and renewable design and effectiveness (solar, wind and wave).

- Technology evaluation and commercialization
In this module you will follow a prescribed algorithm in order to evaluate the business opportunity that can be created from a technology's unique advantages. You will be guided towards identifying a technology project idea that you will evaluate for its business potential. To do this you will conduct detailed research and analysis following a prescribed algorithmic model, in order to evaluate the business potential of this technology idea. The outcomes from this will serve as the basis for implementation of the selected technology in the business sense. Thus you will develop the appropriate commercialisation strategy and write the business plan for their high-tech start-up company.

- Technical, research and professional skills
This module provides training for the skills that are necessary for successful completion of the MSc studies in the near future and for professional development in the long-term future. More specifically, the module teaches how to search and gather relevant technical information, how to extract the essence from a piece of technical literature, how to carry out a critical review of a research paper, how to write a feasibility report, how to give presentations and put your thoughts across effectively, and how to manage a project in terms of time and progress in a group project environment. These are designed to enhance the technical and analytical background that is necessary for the respective MSc stream.

- MSc engineering project
This module requires you to undertake a major project in an area that is relevant to their MSc course. You will chose your project and carry it out under the guidance of your supervisor. At the end of the project, you are required to present a dissertation, which forms a major element of the assessment. The dissertation tests your ability to integrate information from various sources, to conduct an in-depth investigation, to critically analyse results and information obtained and to propose solutions. The other element of the assessment includes an oral presentation. The Individual Project carries 60 credits and is a major part of MSc program.

Dissertation/report
All MA students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of 10,000–12,000 words.

Teaching and learning
The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, computer laboratory and classroom practicals, with a strong emphasis on active learning and the acquisition of practical skills. Assessment is through a mixture of essays, reports, examination and practical assignments such as website design and the creation of indexing tools.

Placement
The work placement is only open to full-time students and forms part of the G030 Professional Awareness module. The work placement gives students experience of how the techniques they have learned may be applied in practice. Placements last for two weeks, and are undertaken at the beginning of the third term. We arrange placements individually for each student and do our best to match the placement with their interests and experience.

You will be trained in the use of molecular tools for aspects of taxonomy and classification, species conservation and in the application of the principles of genetics to the conservation management of small populations.

You will develop problem-solving approaches to different evolutionary and population genetics scenarios. A range of option units are available and there is a residential fieldtrip to either Poland or Tanzania which will provide you with practical experience of the essential techniques in the field of conservation genetics.

The MSc is completed by a research-based project which can be completed in the UK or overseas, often in collaboration with an external organisation. There are also opportunities to work within MMU research projects in Tanzania, Kenya, the Philippines, Mauritius and Madeira.

Our course provides you with a strong foundation for research and will complement your professional clinical training. You’ll gain a comprehensive theoretical knowledge of the field, as well as the practical ability to design and evaluate clinical research programmes.

Specialist modules focus on diagnosis and treatment of different conditions, developmental psychopathology (including causes and impacts) and the broader issues surrounding psychological research.

You’ll also train in quantitative and qualitative research methods, including infant observation, assessment and diagnostic interviewing, neuroimaging (electroencephalography and magnetoencephalography) and neuropsychological assessment.

This leads up to your dissertation project, which will involve significant independent research with the guidance and support of our expert staff.

About this course:

This course will enable you to apply for Qualified Teacher of Learning and Skills (QTLS) via the Education and Training Foundation (formerly the Institute for Learning). Depending on your preference and prior experience, you can either specialise in English: Literacy, Maths, Engineering* or teaching learners with disabilities.

We will thoroughly prepare you for the practical demands of teaching in the FE & Skills sector within one academic year. The course will also provide you with 60 credits at masters level.

You’ll be based at the University for two days a week, where you’ll be taught in our specialist teacher training facilities. For two days a week, you’ll be on a teaching placement, and you’ll undergo a six-week block placement in February. You will also complete an alternative placement in a different setting which you are expected to have fulfilled before the course starts. This information will be relayed to you on pre-induction.

If you are interested in teaching post-14 learners in areas outside of English: Literacy, Maths, Engineering* and teaching learners with disabilities, then we also offer a generic PGCE Post-14 (Education and Training) course.

This is an intensive, full time programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) alongside your academic PGDE award. University-based study includes: a full time block of three weeks at the start of the course; one day per week until January; week-long, full time study blocks between January and June and a number of conference days.
Placements are organised in our Partnership schools in the Greater Merseyside area. For the majority of the training you will gain your teaching experience in a “Home School” with a six week placement in an “alternative” school after Christmas. This innovative model ensures that you feel genuinely part of the staff whilst on school placement and can monitor and gain satisfaction from your impact on your pupils’ progress over time.

You will also be allocated a Teacher Mentor who will organise and supervise your school-based training. Your Mentor will be supported by your LJMU Tutor who will visit your school several times to monitor your progress. Additional professional development sessions are organised in school during placements.

Tutorial support is an important part of the LJMU learning process and you will receive a personalised service that will enable you to set targets and achieve your potential. Your Personal Tutor will support your academic and professional development and will meet with you formally during the year.

You will undertake a significant amount of independent study and preparation to support your course assignments and school-based work and should be prepared to work some evenings and weekend.

University-based training takes place at the IM Marsh campus just four miles from the city centre. Here you will find independent study spaces with IT facilities, a library, access to student welfare and support, a gym and other sports facilities plus a café and shop.

The IM Marsh Library houses the main collections linked to this course and is open from 8am until 11pm during term time. You will also have access to the 24 hour, city centre Aldham Robarts and Avril Robarts libraries.

The University-element of the programme is based around six core modules focusing on:

-Professional Practice (a series of school-based investigations of current issues)
-Developing Reflective Professional Practice (enabling you to effectively evaluate your school-based practice)
-Subject Pedagogy in Modern Foreign Languages (in depth support and practical training in your subject specialist area, drawing on the latest research and classroom-based innovation)
-Pedagogy in Practice (focusing on the skills required for effective teaching and learning including medium-term planning and assessment in your subject)
-Learning Teaching and Assessment (developing your skills in school-based action research so that you can identify what works best for your learners)
-Inclusion (ensuring you are fully prepared to meet the diverse needs of your classes)

Modules are designated as core or option in accordance with professional body requirements and internal Academic Framework review, so may be subject to change. Students will be required to undertake modules that the University designates as core and will have a choice of designated option modules. Additionally, option modules may be offered subject to meeting minimum student numbers.

Academic Framework reviews are conducted by LJMU from time to time to ensure that academic standards continue to be maintained. A review is currently in progress and will be operational for the academic year 2016/2017. Final details of this programme’s designated core and option modules will be made available on LJMU’s website as soon as possible and prior to formal enrolment for the academic year 2016/2017.
