How you will be taught

What you will study

There are five compulsory taught modules:

Plus a student-led Professional Accountancy Project - this comprises individual student work focused on the accountancy profession and/or practice and will be supervised by School of Business staff. The project includes an extended literature review, which may include company analysis, capturing relevant academic literature, professional accountancy pronouncements, professional publications, the financial press and use of specialist software, as appropriate.

How you will be assessed

Assessment of taught modules will be a mixture of unseen examinations and coursework assignments. To meet ACCA professional body accreditation criteria, each accredited module will incorporate a 3 hour unseen final examination which contributes to at least 50% of the final module grade.

Careers

Successful completion of this course enables student to claim exemption from ACCA Fundamental Papers: F1 to F9. Thus, graduates of this programme will be partly professionally qualified with ACCA and can seek employment in the accountancy profession where they may chose to complete their ACCA professional qualification.

Alternatively, ACCA professional exams can be completed full time with education providers operating in many different countries across the globe.

You'll take a number of core and optional taught modules.

ASSESSMENT
Assessment is by coursework only and students are required to demonstrate an ability to carry out in-depth critical analysis, effective research skills, critically evaluate research methodologies, have an enhanced knowledge and understanding of education and training and be able to critically evaluate their findings in relation to the wider academic context.

Some modules offer a choice of assessment methods, including a written account, a portfolio plus a written account and the opportunity to develop materials to disseminate findings.

You will learn theories of leadership in a range of contexts and develop an enhanced personal repertoire of leadership styles and skills. A distinctive feature of the programme is the range of learning techniques used, including individual and group work, peer learning, organisational observation, reflective review and experiential learning. Before you start the course, we supply you with an induction pack that includes a reading list to introduce you to the general management and specialist modules. We also run an induction programme to prepare you for the course. During the induction we assess your existing study, IT and language (for international students) skills. This assessment leads to an individual learning plan to improve and develop your skills. We also provide language tuition as needed, if your first language is not English. Dissertation workshops help you to prepare for your dissertation.

The MA in Creative Writing is a unique programme that offers integrated training in the writing of literary and media text. The MA in Creative Writing is taught by prize-winning writers of fiction, poetry and drama who provide core training and individual pathways in the major genres of contemporary literary and media writing.
