All students on our full-time Business Masters courses can apply to undertake the PG/MBA Internship Programme, which forms part of the Reflective Practitioner Module.

The internship allows you to test drive a career and explore one of your career interests before you complete your Postgraduate studies!

Completing an 8-12 week accredited internship helps students gain invaluable work experience. This fantastic work experience can be taken in addition to option modules. Students are responsible for finding their own internship with the support of the Business Experience Team.

To express an interest in the module, students must submit a completed application form and a copy of their updated CV. This will give students membership a dedicated website that offers exclusive access to internship vacancies, one to-one CV guidance appointments, mock interviews, employability workshops and much more.

Students can apply to London-based organisations and have the flexibility to take their internship in the summer period or alongside their studies.

Every year we receive very positive feedback from both postgraduate students and employers and expect that the internship programme will continue to remain popular amongst our students.

Learning and assessment

Introduction

Studying online gives you the freedom to study when and where it suits you – at home, during your lunch hour or anywhere else you have internet access.

All of our online courses have an indicative study duration which is a guide to how long your course will take to complete. The actual duration may be longer or shorter depending on your speed of study, study options chosen and module availability. It’s possible to complete your studies faster than the indicative course duration by doubling up on modules at certain times; however, minimum study durations do apply.

All of our courses have regular start dates throughout the year. Our academic year is organised into modules, typically with a one- or two-week break between modules and a structured three-week break for the Christmas period. Students will receive a course timetable during the application process.

Teaching methods and style

As we are a 100% online university, we utilise a virtual learning environment instead of a traditional campus. The system tracks and manages the learning process in real-time and provides you with immediate access to your learning materials.

This learning platform allows both students and tutors to actively take part in real-time conversations and you can listen to, and view, live lectures and seminars over the internet. All courses are delivered in English only.

You are supported throughout your course by a dedicated Student Adviser and have the opportunity to regularly interact with fellow students and your tutor. To ensure you receive the support you need from your tutor, we cap our class sizes at 20 students.

Assessment

We adopt an assignment-based approach to assessment instead of exams. Assessment for the Postgraduate Certificate in Business and Management is based on a combination of written coursework.

You are always aware of your current provisional grade right from the start of the programme, allowing you to evaluate the success of your current study methods and clearly identify areas to improve. We believe that this transparency gives you the information you need to make the most of your postgraduate course. We achieve this by:

  • showing your marks clearly in your gradebook, which can be viewed whenever you log onto the learning platform
  • the rapid turnaround of work assessed to ensure that your gradebook is always up to date
  • assessing your work throughout the module rather than waiting for end of year exams
  • ensuring you have regular contact with your Student Adviser
  • the simplicity and transparency in the design of our assessment criteria

We also have a policy of ensuring that work submitted by students is authentic. As well as the fact that all work is frequently assessed, we use a well-established electronic monitoring system to check for plagiarism.

Career prospects

We are dedicated to improving employability amongst our graduates. Our online courses give you the opportunity to improve your career prospects and earning potential with a mix of key skills that are directly transferable to the workplace.

A postgraduate qualification is a major achievement and greatly valued by employers. Recent surveys show that higher degree graduates are more likely to obtain jobs at professional or managerial level and less likely to be unemployed. For some jobs, a postgraduate qualification may be essential, for others it offers a competitive edge.

As companies seek out the business managers with the most advanced skills to respond to changes in the economy and marketplace, a Postgraduate Certificate in Business and Management could give you the competitive edge you need to advance to these upper level positions.

Introduction

The MRes in Business and Management Research Methods is a specialised degree for those looking to develop the skills to conduct high quality research into business, management, organisations and related areas. Many take the MRes in preparation for undertaking a doctorate (or take MRes modules as part of their first year PhD training) but the skills developed on the MRes will also be invaluable to those looking to conduct, evaluate and commission research in non-academic settings (for example in consultancy, development and policy making roles).
The emphasis is on producing researchers who are reflective and aware of the assumptions, strengths and limitations of their research; who are highly skilled in a multitude of management/organisational research techniques; and who are readily able to apply this knowledge in new and diverse domains. Whilst the programme provides specialist research training for those seeking academic careers employability is also key, with a strong practical focus.

The MSc Business and Management is designed for new or recent graduates and those with management experience. This programme goes beyond just providing students with a thorough grounding in vital business and management practices and the contexts in which they operate. The course philosophy focuses upon the role of modern business and management and the varied and sometimes complex mixture of knowledge and skills that drive the revenue streams of those modern entities. Modern businesses have become more diverse. The balance of power has shifted significantly in favour of the customer, who now has more control of the relationship than ever before, and technology has brought in new media channels and cultural norms. The role of business and management has altered, so too has the scope and role of management which is changing in response.

This course delivers the core essentials for a career in business and management by allowing students to rehearse the necessary skills and techniques required in the profession, and doing so at the intellectual and deep level of a Masters programme. Students taking this course will be able to significantly enhance their career and promotion prospects.

Students will complete 180 credits including the core module Global Enterprise Management plus three compulsory modules in Global Economic Trends, Research Methods and Operations and Human Resource Management. For the remaining modules students have a choice of topics giving them the opportunity to build on their business interests. Students will also complete a dissertation on a topic of their choice for the detailed exploration of technology, business and management issues.
