Strategic Marketing of Luxury Goods
Explores how the assets of a luxury company can be used to create and deliver value to stakeholders, particularly customers and stakeholders. Students are provided with the opportunity to develop a managerial overview of how marketing interacts with the other functional areas of the luxury business.
Legal Aspects of Brand Management
Focuses on and contextualises niche aspects of law so as to be accessible to those without prior legal study of intellectual property law or regulation. It provides foundations for critical, analytical and legally creative thinking while exploring legal issues related to trademarks, domain names, passing off, design rights, patent rights, copyright, and issues relating to advertising standards.
Developing Personal and Professional Competence
Enables students to identify, understand, develop and articulate their key personal abilities in the context of their future career aspirations. Students will be given the opportunity to undertake an industry placement, volunteer, study abroad or take part in desk based consultancy in order to be better prepared for their personal and professional life.
Consumer-Led Sustainable Marketing
Designed to provide an in-depth and critical understanding of consumer-led sustainable marketing practices. Students are introduced to the concept of customer insight and its role in marketing decision-making. The module evaluates the psychological, social and economic roots of the discipline of consumer behaviour and relates these to contemporary consumers.
Global Branding and Integrated Marketing Communications
Provides students with a critical understanding of branding theory through an examination of key theoretical frameworks relevant to brand identity, personality, brand relationships and brand culture. Various sectors including fashion, luxury, travel and entertainment are explored while providing students an understanding of marketing communication's mix.
Research Project: Design and Methods
Introduces students to research approaches and time management skills essential for their research project. The module provides essential knowledge of research design across key areas and adopts a critical perspective in comparing and contrasting alternative research models.
The final element of the programme is the dissertation, which provides you with an opportunity to design and undertake a piece of original research in a selective area of Luxury Brand Marketing.

Throughout the year you’ll study core modules covering different aspects of advertising and marketing.

The MSc Marketing and Brand Management focuses on planning and applying brand management strategies. You will learn about the importance of brand management within an overall framework of marketing and business management.
If you begin your course in September you have the choice to apply for an 8 month paid work placement in a marketing role instead of completing either a dissertation or client project. By gaining this professional experience you will be well prepared for your future career.
You will develop a strong foundation in marketing theory and practice, combined with a specialist perspective on brand management, including brand values and a wide range of related communication channels.
This course will prepare you to work for a branding or marketing agency or for a marketing, branding or communications department within an organisation. With practical case studies and live scenarios, you will apply brand management theory and analyse and critique what makes a successful brand. You will enhance your employment and future career prospects, through developing your knowledge of marketing and brand management theory and how it is applied in practice.

Much of the teaching on the course takes the form of interactive workshops, but there are also lectures from staff and visiting speakers. Lectures, discussions, role-play exercises and seminars are linked with selected case studies and assessments to strengthen your practical analysis and decision-making skills. The purpose of this study trip is to give postgraduate students a hands-on, intensive experience with the ideas and practices of global business. The programme will include presentations from local management executives and experts. This study trip is voluntary and all costs associated with the trip will need to be funded by you. It is not linked to university assessments in any way. The competition will give you enable you to experience what it is like to work for an advertising agency by working on a campaign for a well-known industry brand with the three highest-scoring finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas to the client face to face.
Achieving all of this means our approach to teaching goes beyond merely presenting you with sets of theories and principles of marketing. Instead it extends to you being able to evaluate the usefulness of these theories and principles in practice through the use of case studies and 'live' projects. The programme is comprised of three distinct stages, Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) Digital Marketing, Postgraduate Diploma (PGDIP) Digital Marketing, and MSc Digital Marketing Management, with a range of compulsory taught modules (120 credits), and a non-taught element (60 credits). The course is delivered with a mixture of lectures and seminars. Many of the assessments will be based on real world cases and therefore specialist guest speakers and visits to businesses will also form part of the learning journey. At Master's level, self-management and independent research and study is expected with students being directed and encouraged to deepen their understanding of particular areas of Marketing. Moodle is used as an interactive VLE but the development of a learning community is particularly prevalent at Cardiff Metropolitan with excellent student support.
Assessment on the programme is mixed and will include a variety of formats . You are assessed throughout the course on the basis of coursework, presentations and examinations. Assessments take the form of examinations (seen/unseen, open book, essays/short answers), essays, practical assessment, presentations, individual and group reports, and a dissertation, many of which are focused on real-life cases studies.

One year, full time over three trimesters.
In addition to attending lectures and seminars (around 10-12 hours a week) you will be expected to spend significant time (25 or more hours a week) engaged in preparing for classes and additional self-directed study as well as participating in the support programme.
An innovative range of individual and group based assessments are used involving the preparation of essays, marketing plans, case study analyses, portfolios and presentations as well as the dissertation.
Throughout the course you are taught by experienced academic staff with specialist knowledge of their subject areas. Taught modules are delivered using a combination of lecture and seminar sessions, with a strong emphasis on participation and discussion. To bring concepts and theories to life, extensive use is made of real world case-studies and practical exercises supplemented by extensive on-line learning materials
To integrate these modules and enrich the experience of the student there is a supporting programme of workshop activities and events. Typically these include a Summer School as well as guest speakers, marketing games, study trips and learning skills development sessions throughout the year.
In July 2015, students studying on the course benefitted from a week-long Summer School that provided the opportunity to have marketing concepts brought to life through study trips, visiting speakers and participating in a Marketing Challenge based on Northampton’s leather heritage.
The students were able to find out how leather products are produced with a tour of the tannery at the University’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies. Professor Mike Redwood spoke on the way luxury leather brands market themselves and the particular issues they face in developing markets.
