The FIFA Master - International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport.

Organised by the International Centre for Sport Studies (CIES) in partnership with three universities, De Montfort University in Leicester (England), SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan (Italy) and the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland), and endorsed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the FIFA Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport was created to promote management education within the sports world. It has developed to become a top graduate programme developing all-round managers who can cope with the increasingly complex world of sport.

A unique programme

The FIFA Master takes its graduates on a unique journey through three different European countries to study sport. Three distinguished universities in England, Italy and Switzerland, which are among Europe's most sports oriented countries, have come together to provide a ten month programme that combines top-class academic teaching and practical case studies supplemented by guest lecturers and field visits. The course focuses on three key and inter-related aspects of sport humanities, management and law. Once the programme successfully completed, postgraduates receive a joint-diploma delivered by the three universities.

Developing unique people

The FIFA Master offers a dynamic international environment with around 20 different nationalities represented in a class of approximately 30 postgraduates that are selected each year. The international multi-disciplinary approach provides postgraduates with the opportunity to learn a broad range of subjects and develop their analytical skills to better cope with the fast-changing trends in the sport industry.

For a unique industry

The FIFA Master offers a unique opportunity to meet top executives from high-level international sports federations, clubs, agencies and organising committees, enabling students to build up their own network of contacts - one of the keys to a successful career in sport. On top of these opportunities, each graduate also becomes a member of the FIFA Master Alumni Association (FMA). The FMA plays a crucial role in connecting all alumni of the FIFA Master, creating lifelong bonds between graduates.

CRITERIA FOR APPLYING

The FIFA Master seeks to attract a diverse profile of applicants, those who exhibit a variety of skills and accomplishments. This is in contrast to some courses which target one standard candidate profile. In order to create the most stimulating environment possible for all postgraduates, we consciously select a complementary student body, one that not only reflects a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities, but a wide range of personal interests and professional ambitions.

The common characteristics of our postgraduates are demonstrated by leadership potential and a capacity to thrive in a rigorous academic environment.

All prospective candidates must:

  • Have completed a full course of university study in any discipline and successfully obtained a degree by the application date;
  • Have an excellent command of English, TOEFEL minimum score of 100 Internet based test or IELTS minimum score of 7.5 (or demonstrate a level of proficiency);
  • Have previous work experience;
  • Have an international outlook;
  • Be able to demonstrate an active level of involvement/interest in sport (not just as a participant but in the administration/management of sport);
  • Be motivated and determined to succeed;
  • Be flexible and able to meet the challenges of the course;
  • Have an extensive general knowledge and culture;
  • Be able to work in a group (group work is a key part of the course);
  • Recommended but optional: submit score from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or GRE;

Failure to fulfil any of the above criteria will mean that your application will not be taken into consideration.

FIFA Master - International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, ranked No.1 Course in Europe 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, by the SportBusiness International global rankings.

The Master’s Programme in Quantitative Economics and Finance (MiQE/F) offers a high-quality graduate education in economic theory, finance and quantitative methods. Read more
The Master’s Programme in Quantitative Economics and Finance (MiQE/F) offers a high-quality graduate education in economic theory, finance and quantitative methods. Apart from a common set of core courses, our students are able to select from a large menu of elective courses to specialise in economics, finance, or a combination of both. The MiQE/F prepares students for ambitious careers where a solid understanding of the theoretical foundations of economics and finance and a rigorous competence in quantitative methods are required. This combination provides MiQE/F graduates with a competitive advantage on the job market and direct access to highly selective Ph.D. programmes.

Curriculum

The MiQE/F is a research-oriented programme. The objective of the programme is to educate highly-qualified economists with special skills in the area of quantitative methods. The MiQE/F uniquely combines theoretical concepts, quantitative methods and their application to practical problems. On the basis of well-understood theory and methodology, students develop the skills necessary to analyze and solve complex practical problems.

Students need to successfully complete a course load of 90 ECTS in order to graduate with an M.A. HSG in Quantitative Economics and Finance.
In the MiQE/F programme, the compulsory courses mainly focus on economic theory and quantitative methods. This allows you to choose core electives according to your interests and talents and to shape your profile.

Compulsory courses
In the compulsory courses you will acquire basic methods and a theoretical knowledge of economics, finance and econometrics, as well as mathematics and statistics:
• Econometrics I / II
• Theory of Finance
• Advanced Microeconomics II
• Advanced Macroeconomics II
• Statistics
• Mathematics
• Advanced Mathematics and Statistics

Core electives and specialisations
The core electives involve advanced application- oriented work and problem-solving and allow for various specialisations. The different areas of specialisation include optional courses in econometrics, finance and economics, which are important to prepare for quantitative applications. The three specialisation areas can be flexibly combined. You can choose core electives and will have the possibility to create your profile by specialising within a field of your interest:
• Quantitative economics
• Quantitative finance
• Corporate finance, banking and insurance

Master’s thesis
The topic of the Master’s thesis has to be chosen from the MiQE/F core studies. When writing your thesis, you will be applying the skills you have acquired to explore a special research topic. The thesis must be written in English.

Contextual Studies
Contextual Studies are an opportunity to acquire leadership skills and develop intellectually and culturally beyond the scope of core studies. You are free to choose from Contextual Studies irrespective of your particular Master’s programme.

The Master´s Programme in Quantitative Economics and Finance (MiQE/F) has been continuously renewing its structure and curriculum to meet the changing needs in today's academic and business worlds. For the updated programme content, please refer to the programme's website: http://www.miqef.unisg.ch

Double degree and exchange programmes

By choosing the MiQE/F you can benefit from obtaining a double degree from the HSG and an additional leading European university: SSE, Stockholm (exclusively for economics students); ESADE, Barcelona; HEC, Paris; RSM, Rotterdam; and Bocconi, Milan. By choosing the MiQE/F, you will also have the opportunity to apply for the CEMS Master’s in International Management (CEMS MIM). To extend your choice of courses, the University of St.Gallen and the University of Constance (Germany) have agreed to cooperate at the Master’s Level. MiQE/F students thus have the possibility to choose certain courses from the Master’s Programme in International Economic Relations at the University of Constance, and vice versa.
Furthermore, the University of St.Gallen offers exchange programmes for its students with approx. 200 partner universities worldwide.

Career perspectives - A competitive advantage

Graduates with an economics degree often lack an in-depth education and extensive training in quantitative methods, whereas mathematicians and statisticians often lack the necessary background in economics or finance. The analysis of complex real world problems in international economic policy making, financial sector developments and private industry increasingly requires the use of rigorous quantitative and theoretical methods as they are offered by the MiQE/F.
The MiQE/F programme prepares students for ambitious careers that require a sound training in economics and finance, as well as in statistical and econometric methods. Your competitive advantage on the job market – after graduating from the MiQE/F – is the combination of your expertise in quantitative methods and a profound knowledge of economics and finance.

Course Description

The MBA General Management is designed to give its participants an excellent knowledge base in General Management plus two of four elective courses. It enhances the students’ individual competencies to be emphatic and highly performing leaders, and provides them with deep insights into international markets and cultures. It equips our students with the right tools to excel further in their careers: rigorous analysis, conceptual thinking, and creative execution. They learn, discuss, and apply general management knowledge and leadership topics in a truly international setting.

Studying at MBS

As with all study programs at Munich Business School (MBS), small and highly diverse workgroups as well as an intimate study and discussion atmosphere create the optimal learning environment. This allows our students to interact closely and collaborate productively with their class mates and lecturers. Current business and management topics in a well-rounded curriculum full of real-life applications are taught by a dedicated faculty using modern teaching methods and an interdisciplinary approach.

Program Structure

The MBA General Management is divided into three terms and time for the Master Thesis over a period of 24 months. The program covers topics from three major General Management modules: Business & Management Knowledge, Executive & Leadership Skills, and International Business Environment.

In addition, students can choose two of four elective courses. Choices are: Management in Emerging Markets or Digital Business Transformation in the Fall term as well as Social Entrepreneurship or Global Supply Chain Management in the Spring term. This effective modular structure is the basis for a challenging yet flexible two-year program allowing for the completion of the MBA degree without having to put professional careers on hold. Two International Weeks at SDA Bocconi in Milan and Singapore Management University offer further insights into European and Asian business environments and help enhance the students‘ international networks.

With their Master Thesis, MBA General Management students demonstrate a profound understanding of current business topics and the ability to apply specific scientific methods to a realworld business situation.

Delivery Mode

As a real part-time program, all courses of the MBA General Management are held bi-weekly on Friday afternoons and Saturdays, thus ensuring that our students‘ careers actually benefit from their choice to study – not suffer from it. Each term begins with a so-called Intensive Week, kick-starting the program with a whole week of courses and seminars.

A Typical MBA Class at MBS

When carefully selecting the candidates for our MBA General Management program, we pay very close attention to putting together a diverse yet cohesive group of students. Be it through their academic backgrounds, their personal experiences or their professional paths – we want to create the best possible opportunities for our MBA students in terms of networking potential and mutual enrichment. Here are some numbers of the MBA General Management class of 2014/2015:

Average age: 33 years
International / German: 45% / 55%
Average Work Experience: 11 years
Female / Male: 38% / 62%
Academic Background: Engineering/IT - 29%, Business - 25%, other - 46%

Accreditations

The MBA General Management program is – like all study programs at Munich Business School – internationally accredited by FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation). As Bavaria‘s first and so far only private university, MBS has received unlimited state accreditation by the Bavarian State Ministry and institutional accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat).

HEC Paris’ Master in Management (MiM) is the international students’ gateway to the prestigious Grande Ecole program, created in 1881, and a fantastic world of opportunities.

World-class Student Body

The Grande Ecole program is designed for high potential students from all backgrounds with little or no professional experience, driven to become influential leaders in tomorrow’s world.

A Unique Two-Phase Curriculum to Boost Your Career

The Grande Ecole curriculum is divided into a generalist phase and a specialization phase. The first phase concentrates on business fundamentals while the second one focuses on acquiring expertise around the professional goals of the student. The nature of the specialization determines the Master’s degree that the student will finally receive: Management, Management & Business Law, Management and Public Affairs…

This unique curriculum structure enables students to acquire both an excellent grounding in general management and an expertise in a specific field. We firmly believe this combination is the key success factor in training future leaders and making a lasting impact on the careers of our students. In fact, our graduates combine the rare ability to grasp the ‘global picture’ in all situations and a deep understanding that only experts can truly reach.

The program consists of:

  • M1: mandatory foundation courses in general management, electives and a managerial behavior seminarin
  • M2: a specialization, an optional certificate and an in-depth research paper.

Moreover, the Grande Ecole program, created in 1881, perfectly balances the development of practical leadership and professional skills with the more theoretical requirements, such as a final research paper within the specialization. Students are trained to become decision-makers while focusing on the academic specialization that they choose in light of their professional goals.
