This programme is designed for students with a wide interest in international business and management, who are aiming at a management position. All subjects and modules are placed in an international context. The demands placed upon the manager are subject to increasing changes, which arise from the changes that take place in the international business environment and usually effects all business operations.

The Master in International Business and Management programme is a 17 month full-time postgraduate programme for graduates of business-related disciplines, e.g. economics or management studies. The programme challenges students to apply business management theory to current international business practice. It prepares graduates for international management positions by focusing on corporate strategy, marketing, operations, accounting and human resource management, all from an international business perspective.

Educational concept

Our educational concept is characterized by small group sizes, and intensive contact between students and staff. Next to lectures and workshops, students work in teams as well as individually on practice-based and experience-based projects and case studies. Students interact with the world of practice through guest lectures by entrepreneurs, senior business executives and knowledge experts, seminars and company visits. Our teaching staff is selected to ensure a interesting mixture of business experience and expertise in applied research. Throughout the programme the integration between different knowledge areas is strongly emphasized. The full programme is taught in English.

The programme consists of two semesters of course work and one semester of applied research in a business context within a period of 17 months, starting in September and ending in January. The total size of the programme is 90 ECTS. You may opt to participate in a double degree programme, in which case you get the opportunity to spend the second semester at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in Cambridge, England.

Course Overview

The MIBM programme consists of three semesters in which a wide variety of courses are taught.

Semester One

The first semester begins with an intensive introduction programme. You take part in a variety of activities and do exercises to enhance group cohesion and personal effectiveness. Of course you will also get an introduction to the city of Groningen, Hanze UAS and its facilities and services, the MIBM programme and its staff. This is the ideal programme if you want to research a policy or practice issue that’s relevant to your area of work and use your findings to influence the way things are done.

We’ve designed this programme for professionals across the education spectrum, from early years and school education to the further, higher and adult sectors.

You can pursue your topic in many different fields supported by educational experts and a comprehensive programme that includes in-depth research training.

Your research project must focus on some element of policy or practice and be designed to promote innovation and improvement locally, regionally or nationally.

During the structured first stage of the programme, you’ll develop your research ideas with the help of an academic adviser. Six weekend workshops will provide research training and orientation.

With your proposal formally approved you’ll then progress to the supervised research stage of your degree, developing your thesis with support from .your supervisors

This course is for advanced health or social care practitioners with postgraduate qualifications, who want to take an innovative lead in their speciality through original, published research.

Our team members specialise in health and social care research areas including acute care, allied heath, public health, and family and child health.

We’ll ask you to focus your work on an aspect of policy and practice, with a view to influencing approaches in your organisation or specialty locally, regionally or nationally.

Stage one of the programme features six workshops per year, to support you as you frame your dissertation proposal and build an initial portfolio of three 7,000-word research papers.

An academic supervisor will guide you during this phase and throughout stage two, when you’ll research and draft your dissertation en route to the DProf qualification.

High quality research training and regular academic events, such as research seminars and conferences, are features of the programme.

We can supervise projects in most areas of acute care, allied heath, public health, and family and child health. The group has particular expertise in the following:

In an increasingly competitive profession we distinguish ourselves as an academic forum engaged responsibly and directly with the world around us. We are committed to expanding the creative possibilities through courageous and ambitious engagement with the world around us. Design drives the speculation within the school, used as both tool and intention.

The Professional Diploma is a design-based course that will enable you to focus your skills and develop excellence in your work. The main areas of study are in design, technology and practice, and history and theory. Each area is taught through a wide choice of tutors, studios and interest groups with a strong emphasis on self-directed study and ambitious agendas. You are encouraged to explore particular lines of interest and develop ideas in depth.

The course as a whole encourages fresh thinking, experiment and risk. You will also be encouraged to understand and engage with the society you are part of and serve; and to engage with social, political and economic infrastructures that predetermine built form. Our students have had considerable successes in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) President's medals, winning the RIBA Silver Medal in 2012, 2003 and 2002, and the Bronze in 2004.

The architecture subject area is housed in a purpose designed building on Whitechapel High Street, created by our own architects, ARU, and has access to the Graduate Centre, designed by renowned architect, Daniel Libeskind. Students benefit from the course's central London location and its close proximity to its internationally renowned creative and industry hubs. The School's extensive networks encourage graduates of the course to expand their knowledge and skills through lectures, events and careers advice, leaving them with excellent career prospects.

Assessment

Your design projects will be assessed via your portfolio and a presentation at the end of the course. The history, theory and practice coursework is assessed through seminar papers and an essay. The technology studies are examined in portfolio and through a technology dissertation, coursework and professional reports.

Professional accreditation

Our course is fully accredited by the RIBA and ARB. Upon graduation you will receive your RIBA part 2 qualification, the second stage of three in the professional qualification of an Architect in the UK.

After the course

After securing a Professional Diploma in Architecture (RIBA 2), many students decide to study the Examination in Professional Practice (RIBA 3), following a period of practical experience. RIBA 2 also enables you to progress to a specialised Masters course.

Moving to one campus

Between 2016 and 2020 we're investing £125 million in the London Metropolitan University campus, moving all of our activity to our current Holloway campus in Islington, north London. This will mean the teaching location of some courses will change over time.

Whether you will be affected will depend on the duration of your course, when you start and your mode of study. The earliest moves affecting new students will be in September 2017. This may mean you begin your course at one location, but over the duration of the course you are relocated to one of our other campuses. Our intention is that no full-time student will change campus more than once during a course of typical duration.

Gain an advanced understanding of the psychology of consumer behaviour. Explore the psychology of people’s product choice, purchase decisions, and the use of services. Discover strategies of changing and learning from consumer attitudes and behaviours. Analyse advertising effectiveness and persuasion processes.

Developed for both recent graduates of Psychology, Business, Marketing as well as current business development, marketing, advertising or market insight/research professionals, this course covers the workings of the consumer mind in the increasingly saturated and global markets. Specifically you will learn about what captures consumers’ attention, how their perceptions and attitudes may be altered as well as factors that affect the consumer decision-making process.

You will also consider the social-psychological aspects of consumers’ functioning such as social influence tactics used in sales, persuasion and advertising alongside the role of personality and identity in consumer’s functioning. Furthermore, you will learn about the most commonly used statistical techniques as well as the theoretical and practical complexities of conducting psychologically based consumer research.

You will learn and put your research skills into practice throughout your Masters which will culminate in your own piece of independent research. Your project could support the business you currently work within or be based on a sector or company you would like to work for in the future such as the FMCG or advertising sectors.

Upon graduation you'll be well placed to provide businesses, government bodies and charitable institutions with expertise and insights into psychological aspects of marketing, branding, advertising and consumer behaviour.

This Masters degree is designed for graduates wishing to start, or further develop, careers in Consumer Psychology. The fact that this course is relevant to many job industries such as marketing, PR, advertising, and consumer research, marketing research and product development and is currently not commonly taught in the UK, will give the students a distinctive edge in a job market that is often competitive.

In order to further provide students with a springboard into the job market we will endeavour to facilitate internship opportunities by encouraging students to engage with the Consumer Research Group based at ARU. The aim of the research group is to bridge the gap between academic research and business application by working closely with locally based businesses. The abilities gained by undertaking the MSc in Consumer Psychology will place students in a strong position for pursuing a professional career in Consumer Psychology or further postgraduate study (e.g., a PhD) and research, or employment in a university.
