Application for EU graduates until 30 September 2016

For Details see below. The deadline for Applicants who graduated outside of Europe allready expired.

About the Program

This international oriented 2-year master’s degree programme is based on the following pillars:
▪ The study of a range of topics within the field of human-computer interaction: usability, user-centred design and user interface testing and research, and innovative interface technologies such as virtual reality, mobile systems, adaptive systems, mixed reality, ubiquitous computing and graphic interfaces.
▪ Acquisition of key skills and competences through a project-based study approach.

In the English-language Human-Computer Interaction M.Sc. programme, students focus on theoretical and practical issues in current computer science research in the fields of user-centered design, interactive system development and evaluation. In addition, this technically-oriented HCI master offers the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary projects and attend courses from Architecture and Urbanism, Art and Design, Media Studies and Media Management.

In general, our programme aims at people with a bachelor’s degree or minor in computer science. The medium of instruction for all mandatory courses is English. The program has received accreditation by Acquin until 30.09.2020 in April 2015.

More Information under https://www.uni-weimar.de/en/media/studies/computer-science-and-media-hci/human-computer-interaction-msc/

Program Structure

The programme comprises 120 ECTS, distributed into the following components:
▪ Four compulsory modules (Advanced HCI, Information Processing and Presentation, Virtual/Augmented Reality and Mobile HCI), each comprising 9 ECTS.
▪ Elective module (24 ECTS in total).
▪ Two research projects (15 ECTS each).
▪ The Master’s thesis module (30 ECTS).

In accordance with the Weimar Bauhaus model, research-oriented projects contribute towards a large proportion of the master’s programme. The elective modules allows students to incorporate courses from other degree programmes such as Media Studies, Media Management, Architecture and Urbanism, and Art and Design alongside the general Computer Science and Media course catalogue. Graded language courses up to 6 ECTS may also be included, or an additional HCI related project. The fourth and final semester is dedicated to the master’s thesis.

Career Perspectives

The HCI Master was developed based upon our experiences with the long-standing Computer Science & Media Master program. CS&M graduates have all readily found employment in industry and academia, in R&D departments at large companies (e.g. Volkswagen, BMW), research institutes (e.g. Fraunhofer), as well as at universities, with many continuing into a PhD.

Usability is becoming more and more important for computer systems as computers are embedded in many aspects of everyday life. The ability to design complex systems and interfaces with regard to usability and appropriateness for the usage context increases in importance. HCI graduates can work both in software development, in particular in conception and development of novel interface technologies, and in the area of usability and user research, which both grow in demand on the job market. Our unique project-based study approach provides graduates with a skill set that qualifies them both for research and industry careers.

Studying in Weimar

The Bauhaus, the most influential design school in the 20th century, was founded in 1919 in our main building. A tie to this history was established in the renaming as Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 1996. We are an international university in the unique, cultural city of Weimar. We are a vibrant institution, not a museum. Experimentation and excellence prevail throughout the 4 faculties where transdisciplinary projects and co-operations in research and education are conducted.

Weimar is a medium-sized city with UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites. It is known for its connection to literature, the arts and music and also has a music university. The affordable living costs in this area of Germany and the rich cultural program of Weimar make it a very attractive location for students.

Application Process

Applicants who graduated outside of Europe apply online at: http://www.uni-assist.de.
Applicants who graduated in Europe and do not require a visa apply online at: Online-Application.

For details see http://www.uni-weimar.de/en/media/studies/computer-science-and-media-hci/application-master-hci/

Many typical questions about the program, application process and requirements are answered in our FAQ http://www.uni-weimar.de/en/media/studies/computer-science-and-media-hci/faq-application-hci/

Requirements

Higher Education Entrance Qualification:

Students need a school leaving certificate for studies completed at secondary education level. The formal entrance qualifications for international students are checked by uni-assist (see application process).

Academic Background in Computer Science (CS):

You need some academic background in CS, such as a bachelor's degree in CS, business informatics, HCI or related areas with a focus on CS and HCI. Students with a minor in computer science (at least 60 European Credit Points) may apply, here, decisions are on a case-by-case-base.

Only diplomas of international accredited universities will be accepted. Non-academic, practical experience in computer science alone does not suffice to qualify you.

Sufficient Marks from previous studies:

If the converted credit-weighted average grade of your Bachelor's degree is between 1.0 and 2.0 in the German system, your chances of acceptance are very good. Uni-assist does the conversion into the German system.

Language Requirements:

See http://www.uni-weimar.de/en/media/studies/computer-science-and-media-hci/application-master-hci/

The medium of instruction is English, some electives can be taken in German. B2 level (CEFR) of English proficiency is needed. We require a standardised language certificate (unless your bachelor degree was done in a native-English speaking country). We accept three types of language proficiency certificates:

TOEFL (80 internet-based, 550 paper-based at minimum)
IELTS (6.0 minimum)
ESOL Cambridge First Certificate in English

To be admitted, international students have to provide proof of German proficiency at level A1 (CEFR). This is required for registration to the program. You can apply before having the A1 certificate, but might need to show you are registered for the exam for your visum.

Motivational Letter and CV:

We highly recommend a detailed CV and motivation letter. Please do not send lengthy standard letters. Make clear you know our curriculum and point out why you chose our programme, and describe your specific interest in HCI i and why you want to specialize in this area.

There are no exams. Instead, you are assessed by work-based assignments and a final project. The assignments allow you to immediately apply your learning and make a measurable impact to your daily work, providing a tangible and immediate benefit to your employer.

Final consulting project
The programme culminates in a project. The subject could be an area of particular interest to you, a business need, or both. It will help to develop your knowledge and skills in a range of business functions and apply these in a practical setting.

The MSc in Biomedical Science (Online) is a part-time, distance learning programme designed for students working in a hospital/laboratory setting. The programme comprises 4 structured stand-alone online learning modules from the Biomed Online Learning Programme and a workplace based project.

Students apply for the MSc programme after completing four online modules and once they have their project idea approved. The project is conceived by the individual but carefully scrutinised by a suitably qualified team drawn from the university and workplace before implementation and normally conducted in the workplace under guidance of a suitably qualified practitioner, and the whole overseen by an academic supervisor from the university. This helps to ground the programme with relevance to workplace requirements.

The online learning modules each offer Continuing Professional Development credits and each has been designed to be relevant to workplace practice. Students are given a free choice of modules, currently sixteen, so that they can tailor their studies to the needs of their workplace and their individual areas of interest. The online modules run for two intakes each year - October to January, and April to July.

The programme is not intended to be an 'end point' in an individual's personal development, but as a stage from which they can continue career development and increase their potential to make greater contributions to overall employer needs.

The Biomed Online Learning programme is managed by a consortium of NHS Trusts, Pathology Joint Ventures, Public Health England and the University of Greenwich.

For further Information please contact the Biomed Admin Manager:
E-mail:
Phone: 020 8331 9978

The aims of the programme are:

- To provide an appropriate knowledge base in specialised areas of biomedical science, with the intention of building on individuals' skills and knowledge base obtained at undergraduate level or its equivalent and in the workplace

- To provide part of the lifelong learning that plays an essential role in biomedical science generally

- To provide continuing professional development in selected areas within that field of endeavour.

Science - Biosciences

Bioscience in essence is the use of science to explain human physiology and disease and to use the knowledge of science to develop treatments. It is the application of science rather than the study of things for their own sake.

Bioscience degrees are a result of the ever advancing needs of specialist knowledge as new scientific breakthroughs are made. They are partly a product of this specialisation and partly a response to students interested in human-focused study.

Running since 2007, Computer Science MSc has an emphasis on software development, in particular when applied to solving problems in other disciplines.

Depending on the modules chosen, it can lead to a career in areas such as systems development, IT management, or deploying advanced applications in specific disciplines. A wide variety of optional modules are available with this course, allowing you to steer your degree into a direction that suits you and your career.

Why choose this course?

-Gain a master's degree in one year full-time or at a pace that suits you through online study

-Gain an internationally-recognised master's degree from the UK's University of Hertfordshire
-Benefit from the same academic standards and quality control procedures as our equivalent on campus course

Careers

Our online masters programme is designed to give graduates the up-to-date skills and knowledge sought after by employers, whether in business, industry, government or research.

These courses will prepare you for a career in many areas including research, IT or software development. If your first degree was not in computer science, it will enable you to apply advanced computing techniques to your original discipline or to change career direction into the IT industry.

Teaching methods

Our online degree programmes are taught 100% online when studied independently, or supplemented by tutorial support when studied at a local study centre run by one of our online partners. Find out more about Tutored eLearning. Assessment is coursework and online tests.

You will participate in the learning experience through the University's online learning environment, StudyNet. You will receive learning materials, take part in discussions and submit your assignments online. Additionally, you will receive study resources such as key textbooks and any specialist software. You will have access to the University's extensive online library facilities, or be able to visit in person if you so choose.

The amount of study time required is no different from that needed for an on campus programme. You should expect to spend at least 30 hours per week if studying full-time, and in proportion if part-time.

Study your LLM online and enhance your legal skills in a specialised practice area

Whether you are a law graduate or qualified lawyer, a Master of Laws (LLM) is an excellent way to develop in-depth knowledge and specialist skills you need to make you stand out in a competitive job market.

In response to the changing legal landscape, we have designed two online Master of Laws programmes:

‌•Online LLM in Legal Practice (Conflict Resolution)

The course will deliver a Masters-level insight into different aspects of the conflict resolution process, combining taught modules on dispute resolution, research methods and related commercial topics with a dissertation on an aspect of conflict resolution of the student's own choice.

‌•Online LLM in Legal Practice (Intellectual Property)

The course will deliver a Masters- level insight into different aspects of intellectual property law, combining taught modules on intellectual property, research methods, and related commercial topics with a dissertation on an aspect of intellectual property law and practice of the student's own choice

Each programme will deliver a Masters-level insight into the different aspects of your chosen specialist area, combining online modules, research methods and related commercial topics. By studying one of our LLM, you will be able to demonstrate your expert specialist knowledge to potential employers through your own dissertation on a specific area of current legal practice.

Current LLM students

The current LLM in International Legal Practice (i-LLM) is still available to book for students who have already started the programme.

If you are a continuing student, please go to “All LLM students” on ELITE to find the booking form, and contact the i-LLM management team if you have any queries.

It is no longer possible to book on to the current i-LLM if you have not yet started this programme.

Please note that if you have started our current i-LLM programme, due to differences in credits and the validation of the awards, you will not be able to book any of the modules from the new LLMs. However, all of the law subject areas covered by the modules in the new LLMs are also covered on the i-LLM.

Why study an LLM?

‌•Broaden your career horizons with a valuable Masters qualification in the specialist fields of conflict resolution or intellectual property
‌•Learn professional skills to make you stand out to potential employers
‌•Gain an up-to-date knowledge of law and practice in this area and the impact of those developments on commercial and legal practice
‌•Online supervision delivered by professionally qualified faculty of legal experts
‌•One-to-one tutor support and feedback on your work from a fully-qualified lawyer
‌•Develop a portfolio demonstrating the law in practice
‌•Study online, giving you the flexibility to fit your studies around other commitments, such as work or family

What core skills will I learn on the course?

Study one of our LLMs and you will gain experience in:

‌•drafting of professional-standard legal and commercial documentation
‌•conducting legal research
‌•legal writing and presenting of research findings
‌•research and reflection on current developments within the law
‌•analysis of the law and application to a range of commercial problems to determine client- focused solutions
‌•development of a portfolio to demonstrate the law in practice

The course will prepare you to advise on a range of scenarios in your chosen field of study:

‌•LLM in Legal Practice (Conflict Resolution): drafting arbitration agreements, the role of Alternative Dispute Resolution and choice of forum in resolving conflict, looking particularly at the resolution of commercial disputes in the international commercial arena

‌•LLM in Legal Practice (Intellectual Property): distinguishing different types of right, registration of rights and enforcement of infringement of rights, looking particularly at issues of intellectual property rights protection and infringement in the international context

What future opportunities will the LLM offer me?

Whether you’re a recent graduate or already work in the conflict resolution or intellectual property sector, this course will assist law graduates in gaining employment in a legal or commercial capacity in your chosen field. If you’re already working within the sector, it can also help you progress into a more senior role.

Complete in up to five years - via supported online learning

You can study either of our LLMs over a period of up to five years: no attendance is required at our centres.
