This award is aimed at graduates of Computing-related degrees who want to develop the key skills needed to create applications for phones, tablets, and other mobile devices. As well as downloadable applications for the consumer market, you will learn to create mobile clients for larger computer systems.

This is a full-time, on campus award with a placement but you can also study Mobile Device Application Development part-time by distance learning.

Course content

You need to be an experienced programmer before you start. Core modules on the award will teach you the programming and software engineering skills needed to develop and publish applications on three of the most popular mobile platforms: Android (Java), iOS (Objective-C) and Windows Phone (C#).

You will also study the design aspects of mobile systems, from user interface design to the design of enterprise systems which incorporate mobility.

You will undertake 12 month industrial placement where the University will advise you and help you in finding a placement opportunity. There is also a non-sandwich version of this award, which does not include the placment.

You will undertake an MSc dissertation which will involve researching and demonstrating advanced techniques in mobile application development.

Our laboratories are equipped with high-spec PCs with development environments for Android (Android Studio) and Windows Phone. iPhone and iPad development is supported with a laboratory of iMacs equipped with the XCode developer toolset. There are a variety of mobile devices available for application deployment and testing.

Meg has extensive background in designing and evaluating positive user experiences using computing devices. She applies e-learning methods in her teaching, having worked on a number of JISC and EU-funded projects such as PC3 and EuroPlot. Your teaching team also includes Patrick Ingham, who has been working with android development since the first handsets arrived in the UK. Patrick is a great believer in mobile offering new ways of doing things and crafting better user experiences.

As a student on the MRes Stochastic Processes programme you will study a range of topics for the taught element including:

About EIT Digital Master School

EIT Digital Master School offers two-year, European Masters in computer science and information technology, with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. Students study two years in two leading European universities. They earn two Masters degrees from those universities together with a certificate awarded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Students enjoy an array of benefits which includes European mobility, a three-day business challenge, a two-week Summer School, an internship and access to the EIT Digital community. Upon graduation, students are equipped with the tools to become digital innovators.

Scholarship:

·        European citizen: No tuition fees. Up to 750 Euros monthly allowance

·        Non-European citizen: tuition fee waiver of up to 50% and 750 Euros monthly allowance

As emerging networks need to serve critical infrastructures as well as diverse application requirements, future network design demands professionals with deep theoretic knowledge, good technical skills, and innovative thinking.

The Master programme in Internet Technology and Architecture (ITA) is in line with the challenging field of computing communication and networking technologies that has lately received considerable attention and is today considered as a major topic for most recent curriculum studies in Information Technology (IT). Upon successful completion of the ITA master's programme, students qualify both in technical and business roles.

Potential employers include large corporations as well as small enterprises, working on the design, engineering and production of communication components, devices and systems. Graduates easily find work as developers, network planners, consultants and ICT managers to plan, manage and maintain large networked computer systems that support modern distributed enterprise systems. How is the programme structured?

All EIT Digital Master School programmes follow the same scheme:

  • Students study one year at an ‘entry’ university and one year at an ‘exit’ university in two of EIT Digital’s hot spots around Europe.
  • Upon completion, graduates receive degrees from the two universities and a certificate awarded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.
  • The first year is similar at all entry points with basic courses to lay the foundation for the chosen technical programme focus. Some elective courses may also be chosen. At the same time, students are introduced to business and management. During the second semester, a design project is combined with business development exercises. These teach how to turn technology into business and how to present a convincing business plan.
