About the School of Engineering and Digital Arts

The School of Engineering and Digital Arts successfully combines modern engineering and technology with the exciting new field of digital media.

Established over 40 years ago, the School has developed a top-quality teaching and research base, receiving excellent ratings in both research and teaching assessments.

The School undertakes high-quality research that has had significant national and international impact, and our spread of expertise allows us to respond rapidly to new developments. Our 30 academic staff and over 130 postgraduate students and research staff provide an ideal focus to effectively support a high level of research activity. We have research funding from the Research Councils UK, European research programmes, a number of industrial and commercial companies and government agencies including the Ministry of Defence. Course structure

The MSc begins in late September and finishes in September of the following year, and consists of approximately six months of coursework followed by a short period reserved for examinations and a four-month project.

This list is based on the current curriculum and may change year to year in response to new curriculum developments and innovation. Most programmes will require you to study a combination of compulsory and optional modules. EL880 - HCI For Mobiles (15 credits)

EL881 - Android Application Design (15 credits)
This module is concerned with the design, implementation and testing of applications for the Android operating system. Students will work at all stages of the development life-cycle from inception to testing, whilst considering usability and device capabilities for a mobile application capable of meeting a functional specification.

EL882 - iPhone Application Design (15 credits)
This module is concerned with the design, implementation and testing of applications for the iPhone. Students will work at all stages of the development life-cycle from inception to testing, whilst considering usability and device capabilities for a mobile application capable of meeting a functional specification.

EL883 - Mobile Web Development (15 credits)

EL884 - Mobile Application Design Project (30 credits)
A mobile application will be developed for a platform agreed between the student and the supervisor either in an industrial context or within the School.

EL885 - Research Methods and Project Design for Mobile Apps (15 credits)

CO871 - Advanced Java for Programmers (15 credits)
This module provides for well-qualified computer science students entering the MSc programme from a range of backgrounds. These students will have good programming skills but will not necessarily have used Java or another object-oriented language extensively. This module seeks to ensure that students have the Java and object-oriented design skills necessary for the rest of their programme.

CO881 - Object-Oriented Programming (15 credits)
This module provides an introduction to object-oriented programming using the popular Java language. It is designed for beginners who have not studied computer programming before. By the end students will be able to develop simple programmes using Java. (Note that students with substantial prior experience of programming take module CO871 Advanced Java for Programmers[1] instead.)

EL890 - MSc Project (60 credits)
A major practical system will be developed either in an industrial context or within the department. There are no formal lectures - students will undertake the work in their own time under the regular supervision of a member of the academic staff and, where appropriate, industrial collaborators.

Assessment

The project module is examined by a presentation and dissertation. The Research Methods and Project Design module is examined by several components of continuous assessment. The other modules are assessed by examinations and smaller components of continuous assessment. MSc students must gain credits from all the modules (180 credits in total). For the PDip, you must gain at least 120 credits in total, and pass certain modules to meet the learning outcomes of the PDip programme.

- produce high-calibre designers versed in modern interaction design methodology who are able to develop mobile applications with high usability

Application Checklist:
Students must complete all sections of the application form including all of the following:

• Full transcript of all previous degree programmes (it is normal that some students will not have finished their degree and so do not have complete transcripts when they apply)

• A copy of their degree certificate (if they have already graduated)

As well as downloadable applications for the consumer market, you will learn to create mobile clients for larger computer systems.

This is a full-time, on campus award with a placement but you can also study Mobile Device Application Development part-time by distance learning.

Course content

You need to be an experienced programmer before you start. Core modules on the award will teach you the programming and software engineering skills needed to develop and publish applications on three of the most popular mobile platforms: Android (Java), iOS (Objective-C) and Windows Phone (C#).

You will also study the design aspects of mobile systems, from user interface design to the design of enterprise systems which incorporate mobility.

You will undertake 12 month industrial placement where the University will advise you and help you in finding a placement opportunity. There is also a non-sandwich version of this award, which does not include the placment.

You will undertake an MSc dissertation which will involve researching and demonstrating advanced techniques in mobile application development.

Our laboratories are equipped with high-spec PCs with development environments for Android (Android Studio) and Windows Phone. iPhone and iPad development is supported with a laboratory of iMacs equipped with the XCode developer toolset. As a student on the MRes Stochastic Processes programme you will study a range of topics for the taught element including:

The Stochastic Processes: Theory and Application course consists of a taught part (60 credits) and a research project (120 credits). Students will have a personal supervisor for their research project from the start of their studies.

Research projects could be of a theoretical mathematical nature, or they could be more applied, for example in financial mathematics or actuarial studies. Some of the research projects will be of an interdisciplinary character in collaboration with some of Swansea's world class engineers. For such projects it is likely that EPSRC funding would be available.

Facilities

The Aubrey Truman Reading Room, located in the centre of the Department of Mathematics, houses the departmental library and computers for student use. It is a popular venue for students to work independently on the regular example sheets set by their lecturers, and to discuss Mathematics together.

Our main university library, Information Services and Systems (ISS), contains a notably extensive collection of Mathematics books.

Careers

The ability to think rationally and to process data clearly and accurately are highly valued by employers. Mathematics graduates earn on average 50% more than most other graduates. The most popular areas are the actuarial profession, the financial sector, IT, computer programming and systems administration, and opportunities within business and industry where employers need mathematicians for research and development, statistical analysis, marketing and sales.

Portfolio

Course Structure:

The course takes place over 24 months and comprises seven units plus either an Applied Project (60 credits) or two further units plus a Business Transformation Project (30 credits).

Programme Delivery:

The programme is delivered using the Middlesex University learning management system. This is a sophisticated 24-hour online portal which gives you the flexibility to study whilst meeting your work and other commitments. Blending a variety of resources and interaction methods, the programme can be completed from home, work or even whilst travelling.

Assessment:

To complete the programme successfully you must pass the mandatory modules and your chosen pathways. Individual module assessment will incorporate written coursework, online assessment and individual and group projects. Participation through the virtual learning environment with tutors and fellow students is compulsory and assessed in order to encourage regular contributions by all students.

‌•Develop a deep understanding of how debt and equity are balanced within project financing structures.

The Master of Science in Fashion Management is the perfect program to specialize in the Fashion Business.

Our Fashion Management students benefit from a dedicated faculty with extensive experience and knowledge of the industry. There is collaboration with many companies and professionals operating in the fashion industry, from luxury to fast fashion retailers. Companies are involved in the program in different ways, including sending guest speakers, offering consulting projects, providing internships/jobs and flagship stores visits.

Courses will be a mix of interactive lectures and traditional classes; guest speakers from the academic and fashion business community; corporate visits and seminars; and problem-based learning cases.

Master of Science in Fashion Management Curriculum

The Master of Science in Fashion Management consists of 90 ECTS credits and is offered on a full-time basis. The program consists of 2 consecutive semesters of courses (September – May) followed by a professional experience (from June onwards). The curriculum is developed around introductory courses to build a common managerial background; core management courses with a focus on the industry; and specialized courses in fashion. It also includes French or other foreign language courses.

This admission is open to students holding an undergraduate degree in any field from a recognized university with good academic performance and a good command of English.

Funding and scholarship -

IÉSEG has a merit-based International Scholarship Program with a tuition waiver of 15 to 50% per year. Selection is based on the applicant’s previous academic performance and overall application portfolio.

The scholarship application is automatic; students do not need to apply separately.
