Full-time and part-time students study a number of one-week short-course modules comprising lectures, laboratory sessions and tutorials.

The modules cover metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, nanomaterials, bonding, surfaces, corrosion, fracture, fatigue, analytical techniques and general research methods. Each module is followed by an open book assessment of approximately 120 hours.

There is also a materials-based research project, which is made up of the Research Project Planning and the Project modules.

The MSc in Advanced Materials is accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) when a Project is undertaken.

Programme structure

This programme is studied full-time over one academic year and part-time over five academic years. It consists of eight taught modules and a compulsory Project.

Overview

This programme (See http://www.postgraduate.hw.ac.uk/prog/msc-advanced-mechanical-engineering/ ) aims to develop the knowledge and skills of a Bachelor’s-level graduate Mechanical Engineering to Masters level through advanced teaching, design work and research. As such it is also an opportunity for candidates from a different Engineering background to develop key Mechanical Engineering knowledge and skills required for their professional development. A key objective of the programme is to be an accredited route to becoming Chartered Engineer.

This programme makes use of masters-level courses in the Energy Sciences and Manufacture & Design complemented with specialist courses from relevant MSc courses offered by the institute. We have seen a growing need for an advanced mechanical engineering programme at the request of applicants, and our industry partners. This programme has been specifically developed to meet this need and to encourage students of this field into further learning.

The Scottish Funding Council has made available 20 scholarships covering fees only to students with Scottish backgrounds. 6 of these places are reserved for applicants to this programme in the first instance. The remaining places are spread over all our Energy based MSc programmes. There is no separate application process for this. If you are eligible, you will be considered automatically. You will be notified through the summer if you have been selected.

This course is specifically designed to meet the master’s level outcome requirements in the areas of professional development and practice for chartered engineering status. This multi-disciplinary course uses industrial speakers and speakers from those in the university involved in bridging the gap between academia and industrial application.

The first of the specialist engineering technologies courses is based on computational fluid dynamics and assessed by a group project

In this course students interact with companies in a real life small R&D project supplied by the industrial partners. Working in teams, the students have to manage the design of a prototype, product or system and interact with the industrial contact putting into practice problem-solving skills from other engineering topics studied elsewhere in the programme.

Fluid mechanics applied to aerodynamics, including ideal flows, boundary layers, and aerofoils and their use for analysis and design purposes.

- B51EM Advanced Mechanics of Materials 1
Advanced classical mechanics including 3D stress and strain with particular application to thin walled vessels. Fatigue analysis and design for fatigue limit.

- B51EO Dynamics 1
To provide students with a thorough understanding of vibration theory and an appreciation of its application in an engineering environment

Thermodynamic cycles including heat engines and reverse heat engines and means of evaluating best performance.

- G11GA Flame Appraisal
Introduction to the stages required for evaluating an oilfield for production. This covers geological considerations and fluid flow from oil bearing rock.

- B81EZ Critical Analysis and Research Preparation
This course provides research training and addresses literature review skills, project planning, data analysis and presentation with a focus to critically discuss literature, and use data to support an argument.

- B51HB Failure Accident Analysis
To acquaint students with the potential causes of material, structure or component failure; framework under which a failure or forensic engineering investigation should be carried out and give them the opportunity to work case studies through from information-gathering to preparation of reports and an awareness of fire and explosion engineering.

- B51GT Specialist Engineering Technologies 2
To present advanced theory and practice in important or emerging areas of technology including non-linear final element materials to include contact mechanics, design of components subjected to high stress applications.

On completion, the students should have acquired a detailed understanding of the product development process from initial conception through to product support as well as appreciate the impact of each stage of the process on the business and organisationally with respect to information dependence and manufacturing processes employed.

A continuation of Flame Appraisal, this course looks at the well-head arrangement for oil extraction. This is an introduction to drilling engineering and the techniques required for oil extraction.

Semester 3 – Mandatory

An individual project led by a research active member of staff on a current research theme with the aim of leading to the production of a journal article.

What will I study?

Our marketing Subject Group has established working relationships with key bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) allowing the course content to be reflective of their syllabus. This is particularly of value if you are intending to progress on to a professional qualification with either body upon successful completion of your Masters.

The MSc Digital Marketing programme demonstrates how new digitally-focused tactics and strategies integrate with more traditional marketing tools and practices to capture new customers, build customer loyalty and provide superior customer service. You will understand the value of, and methods for, determining return on investment of Internet marketing programs, as well as online visitor and buyer behaviour, customer journey mapping, mobile marketing and social media.

You will also have the opportunity to develop a wider understanding of the principles and practice of leading and managing organisations and develop a range of applied research skills.

Following your second semester, you will undertake the Advanced Practice element of this programme which consists of either an internship or an applied group consultancy project where you will work with a real organisation on a live business problem. You will benefit from valuable work experience and developing key business insights.

For those completing an internship, in the remainder of the programme you will complete your research and writing up of your dissertation or undertake a consultancy project. Every student has a personal research supervisor and will be required to submit an assessed research proposal prior to embarking on the dissertation itself. For those not undertaking an internship, you will undertake an applied management work investigation following your consultancy project.

Advanced Practice stage

The Advanced Practice version of this course offers you a valuable opportunity to secure a work placement or complete a group consultancy project, giving you experience of the workplace environment or live business issues, and an excellent way to put your learning into practice. This stage of the programme will take place between your second and final semester, and is a semester long (15 weeks) in duration. Internships as part of the Advanced Practice stage may be paid or unpaid. The alternative consultancy module allows you to work in teams with a business organisation working on consultancy-based projects on real business scenarios. Whether you choose the internship or consultancy project you will successfully develop your business skills and further enhance your employability.

September starts
If you choose to start your Masters in September, your programme will last for up to 22 months. You will have a summer break after Semester 2, and commence your Advanced Practice stage in September.

January starts
If you choose to start your Masters with Advanced Practice in January, your programme will run for 16-18 months. You will commence the Advanced Practice stage of the programme in September, immediately after your second semester. Please note that there is no summer break included in this programme for those starting in January.

May starts
For those starting your Masters with Advanced Practice, you will start the Advanced Practice stage of the programme in January, straight after you have completed your second semester. Your programme will run for a total of 16-18 months. Please note that there is no summer break included in this programme for those starting in January.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will be taught through a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops to enable you to grow your knowledge of the business world. In addition, you will be expected to engage in independent study involving directed and self-directed learning.

Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is embedded throughout the course with tools such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists that will guide your preparation for seminars and independent research.

Assessment for this programme takes place through a mix of assignments, presentations and group work, giving you multiple methods for you to show your understanding of the course material.

Significant emphasis is placed on developing your ability to complete a Masters degree. As part of induction you will be made fully familiar with the learning resources and support available to you. There will also be weekly academic support sessions designed to build your confidence and ability as a postgraduate learner. You will also be allocated an individual guidance tutor at induction. You will meet this tutor at regular intervals across your period of study.

Careers and further study

Graduates will be well suited to join a wide range of businesses, including graduate training schemes or even start up their own businesses or begin a professional qualification with one of the marketing industry bodies.

Facilities

The Department of Computer Science is well equipped for teaching, and is continually upgrading its laboratories to ensure equipment is up-to-date – equipment is never more than three years old, and rarely more than two. Currently, our Computer Science students use three fully networked laboratories: one, running Windows; another running Linux; and a project laboratory, containing specialised equipment. These laboratories support a wide range of software, including the programming languages Java, C# and the .net framework, C, C++, Haskell and Prolog among many; integrated programme development environments such as Visual Studio and Netbeans; the widely-used Microsoft Office package; web access tools; and many special purpose software tools including graphical rendering and image manipulation tools; expert system production tools; concurrent system modelling tools; World Wide Web authoring tools; and databases.

As part of the expansion of the Department of Computer Science, we are building the Computational Foundry on our Bay Campus for computer science and mathematical science.

Student Profile

Francesca Madeddu, originally from Italy, completed an outstanding Master’s thesis (which earned her a distinction) investigating interaction with augmented reality on mobile devices. More specifically, she investigated how to interact with virtual Egyptian artefacts placed in real scenes. The final game was deployed at Swansea's Egypt Centre last year and was evaluated by volunteers working at the museum. A Master’s thesis does not often lead to a publication. However, part of Francesca's research was written up as an extended abstract and presented at Computer Graphics and Visual Computing (CGVC), a Eurographics UK conference for visual computing last year. - Advanced studies in design
This pathway allows you to construct, with approval, an individual program of study from across interaction design, multimedia design and collaborative design. This enables you to tailor your unit choices while addressing the fundamental principles of advanced design practice and thinking. It’ll inspire you to connect research and practice across the design disciplines, and to become a thoughtful design practitioner. You’ll broaden your knowledge of key design constructs, deepen your professional learning in design areas of interest, and advance your capacity as a design professional.

- Collaborative design
Collaborative design places you conceptually and practically at the intersection of interior, graphic and industrial design practice. The program will set you design challenges involving image, text, products, narratives, systems, ervices, public and private space, materiality and virtuality. You’ll develop independent conceptual and practical design skills alongside an ability to be part of collaborative design processes. You’ll expand your awareness across design disciplines; develop multidisciplinary design expertise; and build broader skills in leadership, professional adaptability and complex project planning.

- Interaction design
The interaction design specialisation develops your skills in the design of contemporary artefacts, products and services that engage with interactive, user-focused technologies and processes. These can include, but aren’t limited to, health and medical equipment, ‘smart’ furniture, educational toys, wearable technologies, information kiosks and transport systems. You’ll use a diverse range of interactive processes, including the application of advanced technologies; electronics and programming; physical and virtual interface manipulation; engineering and material fabrication; and rapid prototyping. The specialisation gives you an understanding of the relationship between interactive activities, products and human behaviour.

- Multimedia design
Multimedia design develops your skills in digital communication environments. This includes: designing for the web; motion and animation; and interactive touchscreen devices and surfaces. Emphasising an advanced knowledge of existing and emerging digital design processes and systems, this specialisation embraces projects of varied scale, from hand-held smart devices to large public interactive screens. It develops your ability to build a communication narrative; use multimedia processes to fill community and business needs; and understand the end-user’s engagement with projects or products such as websites, apps and other screen-based media.

Course Structure

The course comprises 96 points structured into 3 parts:

Part A. Preparatory Studies for Advanced Design (24 points), Part B. Advanced Design Studies (24 points), and Part C. Advanced Design Applications (48 points).

- Students admitted at Entry level 1 complete 96 points, comprising Part A, B & C
- Students admitted at Entry level 2 complete 72 points, comprising Part B & C
- Students admitted at Entry level 3 complete 48 points, comprising Part C

Note: Students eligible for credit for prior studies may elect not to receive the credit and complete one of the higher credit-point options. A zero credit point unit in Art, Design and Architecture Occupational Health and Safety will also be undertaken. This unit is required of all students in the Master of Design and must be undertaken even if credit is obtained for Parts A or B.

Part A: Preparatory studies for advanced design
These studies provide you with the conceptual thinking and technical skill set required for advanced postgraduate study in this area. The studio unit brings together conceptual and technical abilities developed in the other two units.

Part B: Advanced design studies
In these studies you will focus on the application of conceptual thinking and technical skills to advanced design problem solving. You will analyse and create a project outcome based on research, critique, and the application of design processes appropriate to your specialisation. You will also choose a selective unit that will further build capacity in your chosen specialisation.

Part C: Advanced design applications
In these studies you will focus on the application of advanced design problem solving skills at a professional level. You will consolidate skills and practice of design research methodologies and may extend your research trajectory to further study. Part C is also supported by a selective unit to allow you to build capabilities in your chosen specialisation.

In the final semester you will pursue a major design project or participate in a leading industry project. The exegesis unit formalises the research component of Part C. The final semester brings together advanced technical ability, conceptual thinking, entrepreneurial studies and design management in practice.

This MA provides a broad based training in social science approaches to the analysis of material and visual media: ranging from art, photography, film and media within visual anthropology, to consumption, museum anthropology and cultural heritage, landscape and genres (such as clothing and the built environment), within material culture.

Degree information

The programme covers a range of contexts such as production, exchange and consumption, and uses anthropological perspectives based on the comparative study of societies, historically and culturally. Skills training is given in social anthropological field research and analysis, and in specific methods for the study of material and visual forms.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of one core module (45 credits), three optional modules (45 credits) and a research dissertation (90 credits).

Structure

This is a one year full time MSc course beginning with a taught section worth 120 credits. The Autumn and Spring semesters utilise taught and research project based material to enable you to progress from a typical bachelor graduate standard at entry to the master’s level. The eight taught optional modules are split between these semesters to provide eighty credits of masters level study. Two twenty credit Case Study modules form both group (semester 1) and individual (semester 2) activities. This prepares you for the third section of the course where you will use your advanced skills to complete an in-depth project and prepare a dissertation in the field of Advanced Mechanical Engineering. The project and dissertation stage of your course are worth a further 60 credits.

A 10-credit module typically represents 100 hours of study in total. This may involve 24–36 hours of contact time with teaching staff. The remaining hours are intended to be for private study, coursework, revision and assessment: all students are expected to spend a significant amount of time (typically 20 hours each week) studying independently. You must keep your personal tutor, project supervisor and the Teaching Office informed of any circumstances or illnesses that might affect your capacity to attend teaching or undertake assessment.

Teaching

A wide range of teaching styles and mechanisms will be used to deliver the diverse material forming the curriculum of the programme. You will be expected to attend lectures and participate in tutorial classes. All students must complete 120 credits in Stage 1 in order to progress to the dissertation, for which they are allocated a supervisor from among the teaching staff. Dissertation topics are normally chosen from a range of project titles proposed by academic staff, usually in areas of current research interest, although you are encouraged to put forward your own project ideas.

Assessment

Achievement of learning outcomes in the classroom based modules is assessed by University examinations set in January and May/June. Predominantly examination-based assessment will be deployed in eight modules (80 credits) taken in Stage 1 of the programme. The balance between examination and coursework depends upon the modules selected, with the equivalent of up to six credits being available in coursework elements in individual modules, in addition to two double module (40-credit) case studies.

Award of an MSc requires successful completion of Stage 2, the Dissertation, with a mark of 50% or higher. Candidates achieving a 70% average may be awarded a Distinction. Candidates achieving a 60% average may be awarded a Merit. Candidates failing to qualify for an MSc may be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma of Higher Education for 120 credits in Stage 1. Candidates failing to complete the 120 credits required for Stage 1 may still be eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Certificate of Higher Education for the achievement of at least 60 credits.

The course provides master’s level training to the standard necessary to practice as a chartered professional mechanical engineer. When you graduate you will be equipped to apply for management level roles across a broad spectrum of mechanical and related engineering fields. The course is delivered via a part-time, modular approach which offers flexibility to suit the needs of social workers wishing to continue their professional development. It provides professionally and academically rigorous postgraduate training for experienced workers in social care and health services, and will lead to academic and professional qualifications at Masters and Advanced levels. Course content

Work Based Study
Your work may already be of Masters level, using the MSc Advanced Technology award you can get full recognition for it by submitting it towards a Masters degree from Staffordshire University. This is also a way in which your employer may provide an opportunity for you to further your education in areas of study directly related to your employment thus making you a more efficient employee. Virtually all parts of the course can be studied at your place of work. You need to attend the University only to maintain contact with tutors and to present your work at seminars.

Part Time Study
This is for students who are employed in industry in a capacity which provides an appropriate setting for MSc study. You will be assigned a supervisor who will guide your studies throughout the course. Your supervisor will set assignments for you and will recommend material for you to study as required to complete your assignments by self study. Your supervisor will be available for consultation via email, phone etc.

Full Time Study
This course is primarily offered on a part time basis, but you can also study full time if you wish. You will need to be available at Staffordshire University full time during teaching semesters. You may be given taught classes to attend as part of your studies for Modules 1, 2 and 3. These classes will be selected to provide appropriate contributions to your course of study, but will not provide all the content required for all of the modules.

You will also be assigned a supervisor who will give you additional assignments for self study to complete the requirements for Modules 1, 2 and 3. Your supervisor will recommend study material as required for you to complete these assignments. Your supervisor will be available for consultation on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

All students study the same four modules below, however, the contents of each module vary depending on the subject areas you have chosen for your project. Supervising staff assist students in identifying and defining the detail of the module content, much of which is based on research and project work. Whilst most study and assessment is assignment based, you also have the opportunity to attend appropriate formal lectures at the University.

Module 1 Project Management and Research Methods (30 credits) provides basic knowledge of project management techniques and research methods required for industrial research and development work and to undertake MSc project work. It also teaches you how to communicate the findings in a concise and professional manner.

Module 2 Advanced Technology (30 credits) refreshes and enhances your knowledge in a broad range of interrelated subject areas within the chosen discipline. If you plan to proceed to an MSc, the material studied in this module provides a broad foundation for the research topic chosen for Module 4.

Module 3 Specialist Technology (60 credits) provides a high level of technical expertise in a specialist area for students who wish to graduate with a postgraduate diploma. It also provides the required specialists technical knowledge required to proceed to the MSc project in Module 4.

Module 4 MSc Project and Thesis (60 credits) lets you apply the material studied in the previous modules to an advanced research project. It prepares you for planning and undertaking leading edge industry based research and development work with a high degree of competence and minimal supervision.

How You Study

Blended teaching and learning is used wherever possible in recognition that students on this programme are working professionals and students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning.

As a student on the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice you will be allocated a named Personal Tutor who will endeavour to support you throughout the programme.

Students are expected to nominate a named Clinical Supervisor who will act as a critical friend, teacher, mentor and assessor throughout the programme. This is designed to provide you with a framework of stability and support in order to fully contextualise your learning and role within your professional service area.

This individual may, if appropriate, act as the Designated Medical Practitioner should you undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing certificate as part of your overall Award. The University will provide the opportunity for your nominated Clinical Supervisor and/or Designated Medical Practitioner to undertake training, guidance and ongoing support to help fulfil their role.

Due to the nature of this programme weekly contact hours may vary. Postgraduate level study involves a significant proportion of independent study, exploring the material covered in lectures and seminars. As a general guide, for every hour in class students are expected to spend at least two - three hours in independent study. In line with the learning and teaching strategy for the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice, the assessment and feedback strategy is also based upon the pedagogical philosophy of Student as Producer. The work assessed throughout this Award will be topical, current and will endeavour to be relevant to the student’s professional working practices. Assessments have been designed to be robust, innovative and fit for purpose; therefore allowing you the opportunity to demonstrate that you are consistently competent and capable of the role, both academically and in real-life, complex and dynamic service environments.

Assessments will be undertaken by a range of appropriately experienced and competent assessors, including academic staff, medical practitioners and experienced healthcare professionals, and it is through this collaborative and inter-professional assessment process that the University seeks to gain full assurance that the student is fit for practice as an Advanced Practitioner in their clinical service area.

Assessment methods are likely to include, but are not limited to, written assignments, exams, presentations and projects to test theoretical knowledge, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), case based assessments, direct observation of clinical skills and the development of a clinical competence portfolio. Formative assessments will be conducted whenever possible, aiming to prepare you for the assessment process and to provide developmental feedback to support the learning process. For those completing an internship, in the remainder of the programme you will complete your research and writing up of your dissertation. Advanced Practice stage

This stage of your programme offers you the opportunity to secure a 12-15 week internship, or complete a group consultancy project, giving you experience of the workplace environment or live business issues, both an excellent way to put your learning in to practice.

The full duration of your programme depends on your start date:

Internships

If you undertake an internship as your Advanced Practice stage, it may be paid or unpaid, and will last 12-15 weeks. The internship can be sourced by students or the University. We will support you in the application process and equip you with the necessary internship application and selection skills (e.g. CV writing, interview techniques etc). All internships will be approved by the University to ensure that they offer you an appropriate learning experience and working environment. During your internship, you will be allocated an internship tutor who will visit you during your internship and support you in completing the internship assessment.

The module is assessed by a reflective portfolio which is focused on your development via this employment opportunity.

Consultancy project

The alternative consultancy module allows you to work in teams with a business organisation, working on a consultancy-based projects for real business scenarios.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will be taught through a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops to enable you to grow your knowledge of the business world. You will also be expected to engage in further independent study, involving directed and self-directed learning, to further build your knowledge.

Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is embedded throughout the course such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists that will guide your preparation for seminars and independent research.

Significant emphasis is placed on developing your ability to complete a Masters degree. As part of your induction you will be made fully familiar with the learning resources and support available to you. There will also be weekly academic support sessions designed to build your confidence and ability as a postgraduate learner. You will also be allocated an individual guidance tutor at induction. You will meet this tutor at regular intervals across your period of study.

Assessment for this programme takes place through group work, assignments and presentations giving you multiple methods for you to show your understanding of the course material.

This stage of your programme offers you the opportunity to secure a 12-15 week internship, or complete a group consultancy project, giving you experience of the workplace environment or live business issues, both an excellent way to put your learning in to practice.

This stage of the MSc Business with Financial Management with Advanced Practice takes place between your second and final semesters and lasts one semester (15 weeks) in duration.

The full duration of your programme depends on your start date:
-September start dates: your programme will last up to 22 months. You will have a summer break after Semester 2, and commence your Advanced Practice stage in September.
-January start dates: your programme will run for 16-18 months. There is no summer break included in this programme for those starting in January. Your Advanced Practice stage will commence in September.
-May start dates: your programme will run for 16-18 months. There is no summer break included in this programme for those starting in May. Your Advanced Practice stage will commence in January.

Internships

If you undertake an internship as your Advanced Practice stage, it may be paid or unpaid, and will last 12-15 weeks. The internship can be sourced by students or the University. We will support you in the application process and equip you with the necessary internship application and selection skills (e.g. CV writing, interview techniques etc). All internships will be approved by the University to ensure that they offer you an appropriate learning experience and working environment. During your internship, you will be allocated an internship tutor who will visit you during your internship and support you in completing the internship assessment.

The module is assessed by a reflective portfolio which is focused on your development via this employment opportunity.

Consultancy project

The alternative consultancy module allows you to work in teams with a business organisation, working on a consultancy-based projects for real business scenarios.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will be taught through a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops to enable you to grow your knowledge of the business world. You will also be expected to engage in further independent study, involving directed and self-directed learning, to further build your knowledge.

Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is embedded throughout the course such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists that will guide your preparation for seminars and independent research.

Significant emphasis is placed on developing your ability to complete a Masters degree. As part of your induction you will be made fully familiar with the learning resources and support available to you. There will also be weekly academic support sessions designed to build your confidence and ability as a postgraduate learner. You will also be allocated an individual guidance tutor at induction. You will meet this tutor at regular intervals across your period of study.

Assessment for this programme takes place through group work, assignments and presentations giving you multiple methods for you to show your understanding of the course material.

Careers and further study

Graduates on the programme have joined a wide range of businesses, including graduate training schemes. A significant number of graduates have gone back to work for a family business or even started up their own businesses.

Upon successfully completing your course, you may undertake further professional development and training through Professional Pathways programmes. This course is designed for students from a variety of engineering backgrounds, to enhance and develop electronic engineering knowledge and skills essential for the modern engineer.

You will gain expertise and experience in the areas of analogue and digital systems and circuit design using state-of-the-art software and processors. You will gain the in-depth knowledge and skills you need for analysing, modelling and optimising the performance of advanced microelectronic and communication systems. The course covers a broad range of topics including advanced embedded system technologies, digital design automation and silicon electronic design, as well as optical fibre communication systems and wireless communications.

In the second year, for one semester, you’ll undertake an internship, study in another country or join a research group. This valuable experience will enhance your employability and further develop your theoretical and practical skills.

It’s also possible to complete this course in one year without the Advanced Practice element.

Teaching And Assessment

Your progress will be monitored by lecturing staff and advice and appropriate links supplied to improve your learning. Web links are provided for further reading whilst online videos, where appropriate, are available for you to review taught material in your own time. Lecture material is enhanced with laboratory sessions which allow demonstration of theories and exploration of practical problems and limitations.

As a postgraduate student you will be expected to have a responsible and professional approach to learning, accessing the material and support provided and raising any problems with academic staff or your programme leader. You will have an opportunity to take an active role in the operation and content of the course via the departmental programme committee.

The Advanced Practice semester will be assessed via a report and presentation about your internship, study abroad or research group activities.

The Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL) in Advanced Materials Manufacturing is an intensive one-year degree program for engineers who want to advance their careers in the automotive, aerospace and manufacturing sectors. The project-based curriculum covers all stages of the industry value chain and incorporates advanced simulation tools and case studies. Course Structure

The Master in Advanced Architecture is articulated in three different programs: MAA01, MAA01+OTF and MAA02. During the first year (October 2017 – June 2018) the students enrolled in the programs will work together in a common educational platform, with a common organization and academic structure. After the completion of MAA01, students enrolled in MAA01+OTF or MAA02 will follow two different organizations and academic structures.

MAA02 combines the first year Master with a second year of investigation to develop a thesis project. During this second year students are required to deal with a project counting on the possibility to develop it with international faculty and enterprises, highly specialized in different fields. MAA+OTF combines MAA01 with a postgraduate program called Open Thesis Fabrication (OTF), which is an intensive applied research program that combines Academy and Industry. Nowadays its focus is on pylos projects and self sufficiency. There is also the possibility to extend the master in two years, during this second year the aim is to focus on your own thesis project.
