Dissertation

In order to graduate with an MSc Accounting and Financial Management, a dissertation needs to be completed. The dissertation is worth 60 credits and therefore represents approximately 600 hours of study. The pass mark is 50%.

Teaching & Assessment

The Course Director is responsible for running the programme and will provide the main source of support for students. The modules will be taught by delivery of lectures supplemented by tutorial classes, and where appropriate by workshops.

Within Keele Management School, our postgraduate courses include both core and optional modules, so the students can tailor the content of his/her course to more closely fit his/her interests and aspirations.

Taught modules are usually assessed by a combination of unseen two hour examination and coursework which may include essays, assignments, mini projects and tests. During the summer guidance is provided on the choice of dissertation topics and each student will be assigned a supervisor who will guide the student through to completion.

Additional Costs

Apart from additional costs for text books, inter-library loans and potential overdue library fines, we do not anticipate any additional costs for this postgraduate course.

Learning activities and assessment

Teaching on the full-time and executive programmes involves a combination of formal lectures, group discussions, tutorials, seminars and directed reading. Generally the programmes aim to integrate applied and theoretical knowledge with assessment processes that test both knowledge of the disciplines and their application. Each module represents approximately 100 hours of study time, of which typically 24 hours is contact time with the module tutor(s) and the remaining 76 hours is made up of pre-reading, directed reading, preparatory work and assessment.

Methods of assessment are varied and linked to learning requirements. They include open and closed book examination, essays, coursework assignments and case studies.

You will engage in the advanced study of accounting and financial management for a diverse range of organisations and the rapidly changing environments in which they operate both nationally and internationally. COURSE STRUCTURE AND CONTENT

The programme is offered in a modular format offering you the greatest choice in tailoring your final degree content to match your academic interest and future career development. The consultancy project or dissertation gives you the opportunity to explain to yourself what you have learned about business and management and to demonstrate how you will apply this knowledge. Writing the consultancy project or dissertation provides you with a unique opportunity to consolidate the evidence you have assembled during the course and to subject it to rigorous academic analysis and practical application. As a guide the consultancy project or dissertation will be between 15,000 and 20,000 words.

Learning activities and assessment

Teaching on the full-time programme involves a combination of formal lectures, group discussions, tutorials, seminars and directed reading. Generally the programme aims to integrate applied and theoretical knowledge with assessment processes that test both knowledge of the disciplines plus their application and limitations. Each module represents approximately 100 hours of study time, of which typically 24 hours is contact time with the module tutor(s) and the remaining 76 hours is made up of pre-reading, directed reading, preparatory work and assessment.
