The Master of Construction Practice is professionally recognised by some of Australia’s leading professional bodies. This allows graduates to differentiate themselves within the industry. Graduates are internationally recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) as well as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). They are also nationally accredited with the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS), and meets the educational requirement set by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) for the granting of an Open Builders Licence.

This course covers the planning, design, analysis and management frameworks of infrastructure systems. In particular, you will develop expertise in the:

  • Technical aspects of infrastructure engineering within a social, economic, environmental and political context
  • Factors that affect and drive infrastructure planning and funding
  • Interdependent nature of infrastructure across different sectors

You will qualify with a sound understanding of the whole life-cycle of infrastructure assets, the environmental impact of infrastructure projects, and formal asset-management techniques enabling you to maximise the benefits of infrastructure assets in the future.

The lectures given by our academic staff are complemented by visiting speakers from different infrastructure companies such as Network Rail, Thames Water, Environment Agency, Transport for London, ARUP, KPMG, etc., covering different aspect of infrastructure engineering and management. During the academic year, infrastructure specialists carry out Keynote Lectures focusing on important infrastructure projects and approaches. Past Keynote Speakers include Sir John Armitt, Sir Terry Morgan, Sir Michael Pitt, Sir David Higgins, Keith Clarke, James Stewart, Andrew Wolstenholme, Michele Dix, Humphrey Cadoux-Hudson. A number of field visits are also organised to provide an overview of real-life infrastructure operation and management. Past field visits have taken place to both the National Grid and Network Rail Control Centers.

Graduates from the programme are highly employable but have the potential to progress to relevant specialist PhD or EngD research programmes in the field.

The programme also offers the opportunity for practising bridge engineers to update their knowledge of current design and assessment codes and guidelines, become familiar with developments in new techniques for the design, construction and management of bridges.

The Bridge Engineering programme encompasses a wide range of modules addressing the whole life-analysis of bridge structures from design to end-of-life.

The Environmental Management component provides an in-depth examination of environmental management, including field work. Our flexible Master's programme will give you a strong grounding in core disciplines of accounting and finance. This masters aims to provide the theoretical frameworks and practical skills to become an effective accountant. 

You will learn how accounting and financial information is used for decision making and how it integrates with the wider business environment. Throughout your studies you will follow a highly international curriculum which will be relevant to both home and international students.

The technical aspects of our Master's have been aligned to meet requirements of the accountancy profession. This includes International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) developed by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). You will develop your practical skills by analysing real data sets in software platforms.

You will be encouraged to develop critical and evaluative thinking and judgement through exposure to contemporary issues in the field of accounting and finance.

For practising engineers engaged in the planning, design and construction of structural engineering works, this programme provides an opportunity to update their knowledge of current design practice and to become familiar with developments in codes and methods of analysis.

You will be able to choose from a rich and varied selection of specialist structural engineering subjects. The programme is offered in the standard full-time mode, in addition to part-time and distance learning options.

The programme is designed to provide a unique educational experience that combines research-led, technically advanced teaching by world-renowned academic faculty and senior industry practitioners. The shipping industry itself is highly involved in shaping its structure and contributing to its delivery as well as the career development of its participants. The delivery of this programme is based on a practice centred, hands-on approach. You will gain an in-depth understanding of how the shipping and financial markets interact and complement each other. Students will be resident and undertake full-time study in the UK. Under both, the 9 and 12-month programmes students take compulsory and/or elective modules in Part 2.

Careers in International Shipping and Finance

After completion of the programme you will be well equipped with the knowledge for a successful career in the shipping/ transportation industries, as well as in the wider finance sector.

On average more than 90% of our graduates are in work or further education 6 months after graduation.

Indicative career paths for our graduates are ship-owning and transportation companies, ship-broking/chartering firms, shipping divisions of investment banks, shipping analysis/consulting firms, ship-finance arrangers, port operators, and shipping-related investment funds, among others. The wide curriculum of the programme will also enable you to consider careers in the global investment banking and securities markets.

Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) Professional Qualification

The programme is accredited by ICS and our students are eligible for 3 exam exemptions from the ICS qualification, which is the maximum number of exemptions offered by the institute. The 3 exemptions offered are for the ICS modules:

Our successful graduates have to take only 4 out of the 7 ICS exams to qualify for the ICS membership.

This programme, available in both part-time and full-time study modes, offers you a broad-based understanding of how film, television and other screen media have developed and interacted across their varying histories. It also gives you the opportunity to specialise in chosen areas of those media histories, in order to personalise your MA studies towards specific intellectual interests and future career hopes. The Master of Valuation and Property Development ensures graduates can demonstrate an integrated understanding of the complex body of property knowledge and skills in this field.

Intensive mode delivery

The Master of Valuation and Property Development is professionally recognised by some of Australia’s leading professional bodies. This allows graduates to differentiate themselves within the industry.

Further, the program is also delivered in intensive mode. Intensive Mode Delivery is a compact and time efficient way to complete a postgraduate qualification with minimal impact on professional and personal lifestyles. Subjects are generally delivered over two weekends during the semester with two sets of three-day sessions per subject, usually scheduled as Thursday to Saturday (approximately six to eight contact hours per day) with a break of four or five weeks between session one and session two of each subject.

Participants will receive 40 hours of combined lectures, discussion groups, case studies and workshops during contact hours. International students are required to be on campus every week.

The Master of Valuation and Property Development provides a wide range of skills that can be applied to global property markets. This program is designed to equip graduates with strong knowledge and advanced technical skills applicable to a variety of career paths such as investment, finance, asset management and research. The curriculum addresses a range of topics including finance and taxation, corporate portfolio management, risk identification and management, feasibility analysis, law, property valuation and market analysis. This degree provides the opportunity to specialise in Property Valuation.

The structure of the Master of Valuation and Property Development is based on theoretical and practical subjects. This program is designed in close consultation with prominent industry professional boards to ensure the integrity and contemporary relevance of the degree.

This program enables graduates to exit after four subjects with a graduate certificate, after eight subjects with a graduate diploma or complete 12 subjects for a master’s degree.

Property Valuation specialisation

You may use the four (4) electives to specialise in Property Valuation. Completion of these subjects will result in recognition by the Australian Property Institute (API), and additional career opportunities in the property industry.
