The Master will enhance the potential of young brilliant professionals to tackle all the complexities of communication management. The William Harvey Research Institute is currently the UK’s largest academic pharmacological research institute, with 350 scientists and clinicians from more than 40 nations, and has a long history of training talented scientists for careers in cardiovascular sciences and translational research (http://www.whri.qmul.ac.uk/). In the UK Research Assessment Exercise (2014) 90% of our research was rated as world leading or internationally excellent. We are now seeking outstanding life sciences graduates for our BHF funded 4 year MRes/PhD programme to commence in October 2017.

Successful applicants will join our Translational Cardiovascular Academy and undertake an MRes course for the first year of study offering students the foundation knowledge and abilities they will need to proceed to their PhD training. The year will be divided into distinct sections, the first being dedicated to the teaching of essential skills followed by laboratory-based research projects. Upon successful completion of their MRes studies, students will continue to study for a 3 year PhD working with their chosen supervisor within the William Harvey Research Institute or wider medical school and college.

FUNDING

Successful applicants will receive an award covering tuition fees and a bursary at the applicable BHF rates (currently £22,278 for the first year).

Master’s Degree in Quantitative Finance and Risk Management draws on the recognized excellence of our engineering school in quantitative finance, and makes great use of the collaborations with the Universities of Paris-Dauphine and Cergy-Pontoise. The Master is primarily going to appeal to international students, "free movers" or those from our partner universities or for high-potential foreign engineers who are looking for an international career in the domain of finance. This program leads to a Master degree and a Diplôma accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Objective

This Master’s degree covers the whole chain of quantitative finance, from theoretical aspects to the application in a professional setting. The chain can be described as follows:

Specific details of the Master:
o The Master came from the Financial Engineering option (IFI) taught at the ESITI for the last 13 years (all students from the option have found work as soon as their compulsory internships finished, and have an average salary 20% higher than the norm in this sector).
o In and of itself, the Master is intrinsically international.
o The theoretical teaching of this Master is very thorough, covering everything needed to know in the associated professions. As a consequence, the students are very adaptable within the work market.
o The Master offers a 3-skilled approach, in Computer Science, Mathematics and Finance.

Practical information
The Master’s degree counts for 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) in total and lasts two years. The training lasts 1316 hours (646 hours in M1 and 670 hours in M2). The semesters are divided as follows:
o M1 courses take place from September until June and count for a total of 60 ECTS
o M2 courses take place from September until mid-April and count for a total of 44 ECTS
o A five-month internship (in France) from mid- April until mid- September for 16 ECTS. Usual indemnities are around 1000 € per month.

About the Programme

The programme is aimed at professional health and safety advisors and managerial, engineering and scientific staff with responsibilities for occupational health and safety. It gives them the academic knowledge and skills to evaluate operational requirements against health and safety policies which have to respond to a changing regulatory, social and economic climate.

The courses are designed and delivered for participants working within the discipline who can attend the University for a series of short courses ranging from one to four days. Such attendance promotes a much more fulfilling learning experience through direct interaction with acknowledged experts and other students and avoids the isolation of courses delivered entirely by distance learning.

Structure and Delivery

The Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma programmes are part-time and modular in structure, and involve a combination of taught modules (in four day blocks), distance learning modules and self-study.

The programme is assessed by assignments and projects. There are no written examinations.

The Postgraduate Certificate will normally be completed within seven months of part-time study and the Postgraduate Diploma within 14 months.

The MSc in Occupational Health and Safety Management involves, in addition, a part-time research project conducted over 12 months and is available to those who have achieved the Diploma requirements. Candidates for the MSc must attend two short courses (totalling four days) in research methods.

The MSc in Occupational Health and Safety Management is also available to those who have a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from other higher education institutions recognised by IOSH, those with a NEBOSH National or International Diploma (Level 6) and those with a British Safety Council Diploma (Level 6). This qualification usually takes 18 months to complete.

Designed to meet the needs of teachers in a substantial role in further and/or adult and community education, trainers in the public and private sector as well as those working with 14­19 year olds in schools, academies and vocational settings.

The course consists of six modules taken over two years or a one year fast track option is available at one of our partner colleges. Successful completion allows you to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.

Duration: modular over one year full­time with six hours per week tuition in class or two years part­time usually three hours per week tuition in class; plus self-study time and teaching time.

SPECIALIST PATHWAYS IN ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS AND TEACHING LEARNERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

For teachers of English (ESOL, literacy, functional skills) or maths (numeracy, functional skills) or working with learners with special needs, the Diploma, ProfGCE, Certificate and Award can also be taken as subject specialist qualifications.

To join the pathway qualification in the Certificate or Diploma, you need to have 50% of your teaching in the specific subject specialism. The stand alone Graduate Entry Medicine Programme (MB BCh) in Swansea is unique in Wales, and one of a small group of similar programmes of medical study in the UK. It is an innovative, 4-year accelerated medical degree open to graduates of any discipline.

The Graduate Entry Medicine Programme is a fully independent four-year programme based primarily in Swansea and West Wales, although students may undergo placements in other parts of Wales if they wish. We have designed an integrated medical curriculum, where the basic biomedical sciences are learnt in the context of clinical medicine, public health, pathology, therapeutics, ethics and psycho-social issues in patient management. This, together with a high emphasis on clinical and communication skills, will provide you with everything you'll need to practise medicine competently and confidently.

The curriculum, with its learning weeks and clinical placements, is intentionally not structured in a conventional ‘body systems’ approach but is designed to reflect the way in which clinicians approach patients and how patients present to doctors.

This innovative approach will help you to develop a way of thinking and of engaging with information that mimics that used in clinical practice. As you work your way through learning weeks, clinical placements and practical sessions, you will acquire knowledge and build up your repertoire of clinical understanding and skills. Themes and strands, which run longitudinally throughout the Medicine (Graduate Entry) programme, will help you make links with other aspects you are learning, and with things you have previously considered, as well as how all this relates to clinical practice.

Shadowing period at end of Year 4 prior to F1 (6 Week Clinical Placement where students “shadow” F1 doctors in their allocated post in Wales or join the all-Wales ‘shadow’ programme)

How to Apply

All applications are made via UCAS. For Home/EU applicants, this is twelve months in advance of the intended study period. International applications will be welcome during early May 2016.

All applications are scrutinised and considered on their own merits and selection is based upon three main factors:

Performance at interview

Professional purpose

This programme is validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) as conferring exemption from the Part 3 examinations of the RIBA, and is formally prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for the purpose of admission to the Register of Architects. Admission to the Register is mandatory for all persons who wish to carry on business under the name, style or title containing the word 'architect'.

Successful graduates from the programme will be able to obtain statutory registered status with the ARB and attain Chartered membership of the RIBA.

The programme is unconditionally validated by the RIBA and prescribed by the ARB.

Practise-based

The emphasis is on an intensive, integrated, practice-based approach to the management of the practice of architecture.

The programme provides the opportunity for eligible candidates to qualify to practice within the profession within 12 months of commencing the course.

Who should apply?

All candidates wishing to register onto the programme must have already completed an established programme in architecture and gained a validated Part 1 and Part 2 degree qualification at a recognised university/institution within the UK.

Individual tutorials will be arranged from January to June at a time and place to suit the Director of Studies and the candidate. Wherever possible, one tutorial will be held at the candidate's Practice. Other tutorials will be arranged at the University or at the candidate's Practice.

All formal teaching sessions and examinations will take place at the University of Bath. Applicants must be able to attend all sessions.

Content

AR50326: Practice and project management:
- An intensive lecture course held over five days, structured in response to the subject areas defined within the RIBA/ARB criteria.

- Lectures are delivered by members of the academic staff within the Department, the programme director and by visiting specialists from other parallel professions of law, construction law and statutory legislation.

- Candidates also attend a separate revision session.

- Assessment is by two closed book written examinations, which candidates must pass to be be able to progress to the oral examination. Candidates will be granted one attempt only to recover one or both of the written papers, and should the minimum passing standard not be achieved at this second attempt, the candidate is required to withdraw from the programme.

AR50327: Professional practice:
A) Documentary submission, comprising:
- Case study (8,000-10,000 words)
- Professional Curriculum Vitae
- Professional Career Evaluation (4,000 words)
- Professional Experience and Development Record (PEDR).

B) Oral examination.

English language requirements

Either:

- IELTS: a score of at least 7.0 overall with no less than 6.5 in each category
- PTE Academic: Minimum of 69 with no less than 62 in each component.

Only English language tests taken up to two years prior to the date that you are due to start your studies are valid for entrance purposes.

All candidates are expected to hold a position of reasonable seniority within an Architects’ practice in the United Kingdom, and to demonstrate a minimum of 12-months experience in practice in the United Kingdom since gaining their Part 2 qualification. Candidates are therefore expected to be fully competent in written and spoken English within their practising environment.

About the department

The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering brings together the related disciplines of Architecture and Civil Engineering. It has an interdisciplinary approach to research, encompassing the fields of Architectural History and Theory, Architectural and Structural Conservation, Lightweight Structures, Hydraulics and Earthquake Engineering and Dynamics.

Our Department was ranked equal first in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 for its research submission in the Architecture, Built Environment and Planning unit of assessment.

Half of our research achieved the top 4* rating, the highest percentage awarded to any submission; and an impressive 90% of our research was rated as either 4* or 3* (world leading/ internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour).

This Masters in Translational Medicine is the first year of a British Heart Foundation 4-Year PhD studentship: IT IS NOT OFFERED as an individual programme of study.

Why this programme

-The programme will provide you with the skills needed to assess critically recent advances in biology relevant to human disease.
-It covers the areas of cardiovascular medicine, inflammation and immunology, neuroscience, mathematics, bioinformatics and cell biology, and advances in fundamental biomedical science relevant to integrative mammalian biology.
-You will be taught the administrative procedures and ethical and project planning requirements for applying for statutory licenses (personal and project) for animal work as well as ethical aspects of gene and cell therapy.

Programme structure

The programme is part of a 4-year PhD with the first year being an MRes. The MRes is made up of three individual 12-week research placements after an intense two-week induction. Each project will be based on different themes with three different supervisors. Years 2-4 make up the PhD portion of the programme.

Induction
You will be required to attend an in-depth introductory programme, which will provide training in research ethics, statistics, project design, literature review and laboratory safety techniques.

Placements
The induction is followed by three individual research placements. These are at the core of this programme, providing three separate projects to allow you to define your areas of interest for your PhD studies. Each placement is a 12-week project and this will be with three different principal supervisors. You will be encouraged to choose placements beyond your undergraduate subject experience to maximise your exposure to new techniques and science. Supervisors are drawn from a wide range of academic disciplines, such as medicine, biomedical and life sciences, mathematics, electronics and electrical engineering, and veterinary medicine.

Career prospects

You will be taught the practical laboratory skills needed to pursue a career in basic translational medicine and applied science through research projects. After successfully completing year 1, you will be awarded an MRes, and progress to a PhD. The programme produces fully trained scientists ready for progression to academic or industrial careers.
