Why this course?

Biofluid Mechanics applies engineering, mathematical and physical principles of fluids to solve complex and multifaceted problems, primarily in biology and medicine, but also in aerospace and robotics.

This newly-launched MSc course is the first one-year taught course in the world dedicated to Biofluid Mechanics. It covers a wide range of multidisciplinary training on the kinematics and dynamics of fluids related to biological systems, medical science, cardiovascular devices, numerical modelling and computational fluid dynamics.

The one-year full-time programme offers you a unique opportunity to lead the next generation of highly-skilled postgraduates that will form a new model worldwide for academia – with world-class research knowledge, industry – with highly-competitive skills in both biomedical engineering and fluid dynamics, and for society – with better training to work with clinicians.

This course is taught by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, with input from other departments across the Faculty of Engineering and the wider University. You'll be supported throughout the course by a strong team of academics with global connections. You'll benefit from a unique training and an innovative teaching and learning environment.

You'll study

Masters Research Project

The project provides MSc students with the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of independent study in a topic of their own choice; the project may involve an extended literature review, experimental and/or computational work.

Postgraduate Diploma Dissertation

The dissertation is likely to take the form of an extended literature review. Your project work will have been supported by a compulsory research methods module and specialist knowledge classes throughout the year designed to assist with technical aspects of methodology and analysis.

Objectives

The MSc in Cross Cultural Marketing & Negotiation is designed to allow students who wish to prepare for their future international careers, to acquire the theoretical knowledge and skills required to take up key positions in Marketing and/or Sales Management, both in France and abroad. In addition to courses given by international experts, students get to learn from exchanging with other participants, as the cohort welcomes applicants from the whole world (15 different nationalities on average). The programme is also a unique opportunity to extend their professional networks, thanks to Business Challenges and Junior Consulting Projects, where they develop closer ties among themselves. Every day, we receive on average 3,000 advertising messages, of which we will probably only remember four or five. The question is then to know what brands should do to survive in such a hyper-competitive environment, saturated as it is with commercial information.

Communication associated with events can then generate a retention rate then times higher than what traditional advertising methods can achieve. As a result, communication spendings on events account for over 7% of overall communication budgets, a figure that has been growing fast lately.

Located in Paris and given entirely in English, this programme will train you to work in the events industry, whether in the organisation or the promotion of events for the general public or for professionals.

This programme offers:

- Advanced level input by international lecturers (UK, Australia, Italy, ...);
- Field experience thanks to Challenge Projects, Junior Consulting Projects, and in-company work placements;

This wireless program focuses on three main outcomes: RF/optical test and measurement, networking, and troubleshooting a number of wireless telecommunications systems.You will learn to use engineering tools and equipment for testing of systems including LTE/UMTS/GSM drive test tools, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, optical time domain reflectometers. You will also learn how to troubleshoot and configure local- and wide-area networks (LAN/WANs) at the device and at the protocol levels. Our courses cover additional networking topics relevant to telecom carriers such as MPLS, VPNs, QoS and VoIP. You will be prepared to understand the technology roadmap leading into Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and data center virtualization technologies.

This program is an established program with industry with over two decades of expertise. Students will have access to learn on some of the best equipment available. Curriculum is kept current with the collaboration of our industry partners in the wireless field. Students utilize the latest technologies in small classes taught by experienced faculty and industry leaders.

Course detail

Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

• Analyze, test, measure and troubleshoot RF (radio frequency) signals, attenuation and antenna systems, and test and troubleshoot linear and non-linear circuit modules.
• Manage network performance issues and problems against user needs through the design, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of a variety of current and relevant protocols.
• Build wired and/or wireless networks using design documentation, and measure the performance of both the wired and wireless networks’ components and the networks’ applications using basic and advanced network management tools and applications.
• Design, install and configure networks - implementing various network configurations using different standard protocols, and upgrade network hardware (e.g. workstations, servers, wireless access points, routers, switches, firewalls etc.) and related components and software according to the best practices in the industry.
• Monitor and evaluate network security issues and perform basic security audits on both wired and wireless networks.
• Utilize change control, issue documentation and problem escalation procedures and processes, generate and maintain “as-built” network documentation following industry best practices.
• Apply RF analog and digital circuit analysis and design concepts to analyze voice and data communication using different modulation techniques.
• Use simulation tools to mathematically model and solve RF (radio frequency) electrical and electronics networks which are essential components of telecommunications and wireless technologies.
• Install, or use existing, operating systems & its components and manage users, processes, memory management, peripheral devices, telecommunication, networking and security, and troubleshoot hardware and software components of computer and operating systems using system level commands and scripts.
• Assist in the design and development of a wide area of networks using a variety of network layer-one, layer-two and layer-three protocols, microwave communication links, and fiber optics links.
• Describe the infrastructures, components, and protocols of a wide range of wireless technologies.
• Develop the infrastructure required for VoIP transport through IP networks, and be able to configure VoIP clients such as IP telephones and soft phones.

As the rate of technology adoption increases in Canadian industry, the Wireless Telecommunications program is preparing graduates for these new markets. A 2015-2019 labour market report by the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) indicates that by 2019, over 182,000 critical ICT positions will be left unfilled.

Graduates of the program work at cell phone service providers, equipment manufacturers, in house information technology (IT) departments, sales departments, and specialized telecommunication and networking companies.

About the Department of Drama and Theatre

Postgraduate Drama and Theatre studies at Kent has a very strong reputation for research and supervision in contemporary theatre and performance. We are the home of two renowned international research centres, the European Theatre Research Network (ETRN) and the Centre for Cognition, Kinesthetics and Performance (CKP).

The School of Arts’ award-winning Jarman Building offers professional standard drama facilities, along with social spaces and a dedicated centre for postgraduate students.

Additional facilities across the Canterbury campus include two theatres: the 113-seat Aphra Theatre (a courtyard-type gallery theatre space); and the Lumley Theatre, which is a flexible and adaptable white room space. Drama students also benefit from an additional rehearsal studio, a sound studio, a theatre design suite and an extensively equipped construction workshop.

The University’s Templeman Library is well resourced in our subject area and houses special collections of 19th-century manuscripts – playbills, programmes, prints and other theatre ephemera – theatrical biography and the history of the stage in the 19th and 20th centuries. It also has particular strengths as a research resource in English Renaissance drama, Russian and French theatre, and British theatre since 1900. We also house the Jacques Copeau Archive and the British Grotowski collection.

- Conferences and seminars

We have strong links with organisations such as the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR) and the Theatre and Performance Research Association (TaPRA), and encourage postgraduates to present work within national and international conferences. Also, we run regular research seminars, workshops, and performance-related events led by members of staff, students, and invited experts and practitioners.

This programme in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBP) will focus on the evidence based treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.

The central aim of the course is to provide students with a clear understanding of cognitive-behavioural concepts, models, and methods. It is anticipated that those completing the programme will be able to use what they have learned in a safe and effective way in order to enhance the efficacy of their psychotherapeutic interventions.

The course is fully accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) as an IAPT level 2 course.

Students need a core profession relating to mental health or can go through the KSA route and provide a portfolio as outlined on the BABCP website. KSA requirements must be met if candidates do not have a core profession recognised by the BABCP.

Students will be required to attend clinical supervision and teaching sessions one day a week (day to be confirmed), so will need to organise this with current employers.

For the MSc, in year two students undertake one of the following:

A professional development portfolio project. This option requires the student to identify an area of their work and where they wish to develop their expertise. Through critically appraising published material, attending teaching days and refining and developing their own professional skills, students will develop a portfolio of evidence on how this has influenced their practice. This innovative option will allow students to develop expert clinical skills that will assist them when helping more difficult patients and developing advanced clinical skills.

There is a range of summative assessments used on the course. Written assessments include writing lab reports and journal articles, assessing your research design, analytical and written communication skills.
