Boardroom Experience

Each pathwayalso benefits from the Boardroom activity, which is one of the most challenging but rewarding aspects of our MBA. The module is a real-life simulation of a boardroom and will give you the opportunity to apply the concepts and theories learnt during the core modules to a real board-level management team in an international organisation. This will allow you to enhance your analytical, critical thinking and strategic management skills and will also give you the opportunity to network with a number of different business professionals to develop key business relationships.

Strategic Business Project

Throughout your study, you will source, research and then produce a detailed report on a business project you have undertaken at an organisation of your choice. This consultancy exercise will give you the opportunity to analyse and evaluate tangible business issues and apply the knowledge you have acquired in the classroom.

International Business in Context

As part of your MBA programme you will visit an international business overseas. In addition to attending language classes throughout the year, you will visit leading international companies where you will test and examine academic business approaches in global companies and gain an appreciation of the complex nature of the different dimensions of business. Other admission requirements

Lack of formal qualifications is not necessarily a barrier to admission; managerial experience is also a key consideration for entry to our Full-time MBA programme. MBA Business Event

Students will have the opportunity to participate in the MBA business event (Brussels in 2014/15) in their first year. Please Note: Additional fees, over and above your course fees, will be payable for the optional elements, for example for travel and accommodation for the Business Event or by the examination or membership bodies for membership and assessments associated with the qualifications.

Work Experience Opportunities

As a full time, on campus student, you can elect to participate in a Work Placement – completing the module Organisational Culture and Work Environments, instead of Business research (consultancy project). These placements can enable you to develop your skills and knowledge in a work environment, with the aim to give you an advantage over the competition for jobs and scholarships after you graduate.

Your placement would last between six and 12 months, and be appropriate to the level of study and you should also be paid. We will support you in finding and securing a placement opportunity, however it must be noted that placements are highly competitive and there is no guarantee of a placement offer being made by an employer.

Whilst on a work placement you will attend two full-day workshops held at the university, and complete a research project based on the organisation in which you are working.

If you think a work placement is not for you, or are unable to secure a placement within the first nine months of the programme, then you will be automatically transferred to our Business Research (Consultancy) Project module to gain the required credits to complete the MBA. The Business Research (Consultancy) Project module will be taught in three full day intensive workshops and supported with one to one supervision. You will have approximately three months to work on your project and will complete your MBA programme within 12 months. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills through the taught employability skills programme, where you will be given opportunities for one-to-one support and guidance for professional and career development.

Schedule
The length of study for this course is one year for those that are studying full time. Students that are taking this course part-time or through distance learning can expect the course duration to be two years.

The programme is completed by full-time study on Park campus at Northampton Business School. Normally, you will complete two semesters of 14 weeks, with between 12 and 15 hours per week in the classroom with your tutors and fellow students. You will be expected to engage in significant additional study, around 20-25 hours per week in self-directed study, learning and networking and attending additional workshops to support your achievement of the professional body memberships and awards. The full-time programme normally runs twice a year with September and January starts.

Assessments

The programme is highly enterprise and business focused with an emphasis on real life business situations and problems. As such it has a mixture of assessment involving practical work, presentations, essays, reports and case studies and examinations.

This course was designed in conjunction with The Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM), the leading body for the professional development of direct, data and digital marketing and will develop both the theoretical and practical knowledge of digital and marketing concepts that are vital in today's business environment.

The focus of this programme is to equip future marketing managers with the knowledge and understanding of the traditional academic theories, concepts and frameworks of marketing strategy and planning and be able to apply them in the contemporary digital environment. Students will learn the strategic importance of technical change and innovation in the context of information technology and knowledge management. It is anticipated that a high number of students applying for this course will be in full-time employment. Therefore a number of flexible study routes are offered:

Traditional campus based course

The traditional university campus based route of face to face learning will require weekly attendance over the 15 week semester. Teaching takes place during the daytime and would require attendance at the university.

Full-time route (12 months)

This route require you to take three modules over one semester starting in January and finishing in June. You will then have until December to submit your 20,000-word dissertation. International students will need to study full time and complete the whole course in two semesters due to visa requirements.

Part-time route (24 months)

The part time route will enable modules to be taken over two semesters. Starting in January you will finish the taught element 12 months later and will then have until the following December to complete your 20,000 word dissertation.

Blended route (24 months)

The blended learning route will enable you to study at home for two semesters before progressing to the dissertation. Each semester will include one or two intensive workshops introducing the core subjects, which are then supported extensively by online learning materials, presentations and webinars. Starting in January you will finish the taught element 12 months later and will then have until thefollowing December to complete your 20,000 word dissertation.

- Contemporary Marketing (20 Credits)
This module provides a theoretical look at the world of consumers and their behaviour in the digital environment, drawing on consumer behaviour, product, brand and communications theories to interpret and understand how consumers are respond to different technologies. This module sets out to enable students to learn how to operationalise the key marketing, consumer behaviour and communication theories to enable students to critically appraise the swiftly changing digital marketing channels in the light of marketing theory.

- Digital and social media (10 credits)
This module provides an intensely practical education in the core digital technologies, such as websites, search, display media, affiliate networks and mobile. Students will explore how they are being used and can assist in the delivery of marketing goals.

- Research methods (20 credits)
This module provides students with the learning, tools and techniques necessary for the completion of their dissertation, the final component for students wishing to obtain a Master's degree in Digital Marketing. Students will learn about the methods and tools of research and develop an understanding of the logic, sequence and structure of a research project, thus enabling students to design a logical structure for their dissertations. The aim of the module is to ensure that students are aware of the vast array of methodologies available to them and facilitating their ability to produce an original piece of work which adds to their existent body of knowledge and will help students explore the sources and types of information required for the research projects and the practical challenges associated with obtaining information.

Employability

You’ll study

On the Certificate programme you’ll study three compulsory modules.

Visiting lecturers include Professor Tommy MacKay who is a practising Educational Psychologist. In addition, Dr Mike McCreadie has a visiting role in the Pg Diploma module. He’s Consultant Clinical Director of Studio III and Lead ATLASS Trainer and his area of specialism is stress management in Autism.
