Best of 2017 – Our Most Popular Blogs This Year

We hope that you’re enjoying the holiday period and looking forward to continuing your Masters plans in the New Year, whatever they may be.

After the excitement of a brand new Masters loan system and the upheaval of Brexit, 2017 somehow wasn’t quite as eventful as 2016 in the world of postgraduate study. Still, Theresa May triggered Article 50 back in March before calling a general election, and the Brexit process continues to rumble on. Meanwhile, the UK government’s postgraduate loans continue to prove a hit with students.

This year’s five most-read blogs reflect these issues, covering EU funding, study abroad and (of course) Brexit.

5. Differences between undergraduate and postgraduate study

Fittingly for the year’s fifth most popular blog, this post featured five meaningful differences between undergraduate and postgraduate study. Coincidence? I’ll let you decide.

If you’re worried that the jump from undergraduate to postgraduate level will be too much for you, our advice is not to worry. In practice, the gap between the two isn’t too significant, and you could find yourself pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of the transition.

4. Choosing a Masters Degree – Taught or Research?

When you’re deciding on the perfect Masters programme, the distinction between taught and research courses is one of the most fundamental. But you might not know what these kinds of Masters actually involve.

This blog explains some of the key differences between the two, helping you to make the right decision.

3. Brexit – a postgraduate FAQ

Article 50 was triggered at the end of March, beginning the process for the UK’s exit from the European Union. Unsurprisingly, our blog on what this meant for Masters and PhD students was one of the most read of the year.

What’s more, we’ll be keeping our FAQ updated Brexit’s implications for postgraduates develop (as well as sending updates via our newsletter).

2. Masters funding – a checklist for 2017

Funding is always a primary concern for Masters students, and this year was no different. Luckily, our editor, Mark, put together a step-by-step guide to finding funding.

If you’re interested in learning more about finance options, it’s always worth checking out the funding advice section on FindAMasters.com.

1. Funding a Masters Abroad in 2017

Although the Brexit process hasn’t given us a great deal of clarity (yet) when it comes to international postgraduate fees, it seems that many of you are still interested in studying abroad!

And with good reason – there are still plenty of funding options open to UK and EU students like, and this will remain the case until at least the end of the 2018-19 academic year. This blog explored some of the funding routes to follow if you want to study a Masters abroad. The advice here is for 2017, but many of the tips will still be useful in the New Year.

We hope that you’ve found these posts (and the rest of the blog) useful. It’s now our second year of blogging, and it’s been great having you as readers.

We’ll return next year with more updates, advice and information on all things postgraduate, so make sure you check back in 2018.

Happy New Year from everyone at FindAMasters!
