MSc Business Information Technology Systems |
| This interdisciplinary conversion course is for graduates who are interested in a management career with a strong Information Technology (IT) emphasis. The course assumes no prior knowledge or experience of either computers or business and is designed to allow students to apply existing skills and knowledge to an area of growing importance. The course gives participants a good grounding in business management and a thorough knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of IT equipment as applied to business. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, case studies and computer laboratories. The course is taught by staff from a wide range of departments from within and outwith the Graduate School of Business. Microcomputers and software packages used are similar to those in common business use. No specific first degree is required, although the course is particularly appropriate for graduates from Arts and Social Sciences disciplines. Candidates for both the MSc and the Diploma follow the same taught curriculum but MSc students also submit a dissertation on an approved topic. Diploma students who achieve an appropriate standard may transfer to the MSc. There are three stages to the programme. Stages 1 and 2 lead to the Postgraduate Diploma award and consist of four key foundation modules followed by a choice of three electives: Stage 1: Managing the Business Process, Managing Information, Business and Information Systems Strategy, Managing Information Systems Projects. Stage 2: Electives (students choose three from a list which might include Power and Organisations, Business Ethics, Web Page Design, Scenario Planning). Stage 3: leads to the MSc degree and comprises an IT-related project (includes a compulsory non-credit class in project methodology). |
