Bioenergy and Environmental Change: Managing the Environment MSc

There is continued pressure on Governments to meet energy demands whilst reducing carbon emissions. Green energy technologies have come to the fore as “must have” innovations of this new millennium. At the same time this is a rapidly emerging area of employment and managing land for energy will be a significant growth area as Governments throughout the world try to employ sustainable technologies in order to meet the Climate Change challenge.

The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences, Aberystwyth has one of the largest groupings of scientists active in developing such green biorenewable energy sources in the UK with complete coverage of the research pipeline in a single institution. This includes the genetic improvement of the giant energy grass Miscanthus and the development of biorenewables including next generation biofuels and platform chemical from high sugar ryegrass. IBERS is a world class research and education centre at Aberystwyth University. It is an internationally recognized centre of excellence and students’ choice for the study of biological, environmental and rural sciences.IBERS has come together with the green energy sector to offer “hands on” vocational training on Bioenergy and managing land for energy via its new MSc pathway in BioEnergy and Environmental Change. This is part of the wider internationally recognised programme in Managing the Environment.

The Bioenergy and Environmental Change pathway was developed in direct response to the Energy sectors imminent and future need for graduates with Green energy skills. This is rapidly emerging area of employment and managing land for energy will be a significant growth area as Governments throughout the world try and meet Sustainability and Climate Change targets. At IBERS Aberystwyth we have one of the largest groupings of scientists active in biorenewables in the UK with complete coverage of the research pipeline in a single institution. The pathway will involve industrial “hands on” case studies where you will interact with consultants and environmental professionals followed by a dissertation in this specialist area of environmental management.

This pathway is part of our wider MSc in Managing the Environment a programme combining vocational and professional training in environmental management including state-of–the-art technological advances. It delivers an innovative, fully integrated programme, at the cutting edge of the subject. You will acquire the practical skills, field experience and knowledge necessary for a career in the Green Energy sector. This is a skills-based course taught over one calendar year comprising both core and pathway-specific modules. By joining our Masters scheme you will become a member of a dynamic team, working together towards a sustainable future.

If you are a high calibre graduate interested in green technology and think that you can make a difference in the energy sector then this could be for you.
