Student Profiles

Impressive international rankings for the course of study and its reputation as the only postgraduate institution in the EU attracted me to Cranfield University. Also, its collaboration with industry was an important factor.
It helped me to develop my knowledge of business operations and how this interfaces with engineering expertise. I now have options in the manufacturing and the energy industries, both of which are my preferred career choices.
I found the international environment, as well as the access to social and extracurricular activities and facilities such as tennis and Jujutsu classes, and trips to Cambridge and London, fantastic.

- Why did you choose Cranfield?

I have been following the MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering at Cranfield University through a double degree program with my school in Madrid. This masters covers the main mechanical topics such as fatigue, structural mechanics and FEA which in many cases are explained and presented with examples from the offshore field. Other topics are power control systems, thermal power and fluid mechanics.

This masters provides the knowledge to deal with most common mechanical engineering problems you would face in your professional life.

- What was Cranfield's impact?

Cranfield University is a place where many foreign people study; therefore, it provides you the opportunity to meet a lot of new people and learn new cultures. Furthermore, this MSc gave me the opportunity to work in an international group which is well recognised by companies. It has also provided me good experiences in the research field through my thesis and reviewing and modeling passive damping systems to be applied on a floating offshore wind turbine.

My year at Cranfield has been a really good experience in terms of searching for a job. Cranfield University is recognised internationally therefore it offers you a good chance to improve your CV and many companies will pick your CV before others. Probably the weakest point of Cranfield University is that it is small community and isolated, but at the same time strong personal relationships can be made if you are an open person.

In conclusion, thanks to this year I have focused my professional life. Moreover, I have made good friends; therefore, I wish for future students to attend this masters degree programme.

Scholarships

Cranfield University is now able to offer you a more affordable way to study an MSc with loans managed by Prodigy Finance.

With a Cranfield Postgraduate Loan it is possible for you to take up your MSc studies with no repayments while you study. This will leave you free to concentrate on your course and enhance your career prospects.

Launched in February 2014, the scheme is designed to support UK and EU students entering postgraduate study and is intended to attract those who may not otherwise progress to this level because of financial constraints.

Loans of up to £15,000 are available (dependent on the tuition fees for your chosen course).

If you are a UK student, loans are available for tuition fees and maintenance. EU students can apply for a loan covering only tuition fees.
Loans are repaid over a seven year period and repayments start six months after you complete your degree. As a not-for-profit scheme, funded by Cranfield and HEFCE, the loans are competitively priced (6.92% APR representative) and considerably more affordable than a standard career development loan.
