MSc Quantity Surveying

Course Description

Why choose this course?
This is a fast-track conversion course for graduates from disciplines unrelated to construction and real estate, which leads to Chartered Surveyor status.

• Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
• Optional international field trip
• Dedicated postgraduate resource room
• Part-time and full-time study options

Course focus
The course has a cost, contract management, and procurement focus, making it particularly appropriate to applicants wishing to gain a stronger insight into these aspects of the cost management and construction business.

Quantity surveyors manage all costs relating to construction projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. They aim to minimise the costs of a project, ensure value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality.

Accreditation
The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), enabling successful graduates entry to the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) of the RICS; a prerequisite for full Chartered Surveyor status.

Postgraduate scholarships
The School will be offering a number of scholarships for students commencing their studies on one of our postgraduate construction courses.

Paavan Popat, Winner – Protégé Award

525.jpg Paavan beat 200 competitors to win Protégé 2007 earning him £3,000 and a prestigious and lucrative job at Rider Levett Bucknall. This followed a tough ‘The Apprentice’-style search which involved phone interviews, psychometric tests, presentations and group assessments. Protégé is organised by leading property and construction consultancy Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) and is supported by Building and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

“The course was ideal because I came from a non-cognate background wanting to become a project manager in the construction industry. I needed to build on my knowledge of management with construction-related modules while also achieving student membership at RICS, allowing me to work towards chartered membership with a couple of years of work experience.

“Since undertaking my role at RLB as a project manager, I have been fortunate enough to travel abroad with the company on several occasions. I have been working closely with our Chief Executive and Rider Levett Bucknall’s Global Board on a number of global expansion initiatives.”
