This programme provides a comprehensive introduction to public health for students intending to practice in public health or related fields. It offers a cutting edge knowledge and skills base for both non-medical and medically qualified students. It is particularly suited to students who wish to pursue a career in public health research or public health management based on quantitative analytical skills. The MPH is a good preparation for students wishing to take the MFPH Part A examination.

Demonstrate an understanding of the essential principles of modern biostatistical methods.
Apply current research methods in key areas of chronic disease epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, and environmental exposure.
Demonstrate skills in health information analysis, report writing and communication.
Demonstrate understanding of health systems, policy and financing and key global health issues.
Demonstrate understanding of, and skills in, needs assessment, health equity audit, health impact assessment, health care evaluation, changing health behaviour, health intervention planning and health economics.

New for 2013/14! A Global Health stream of the MPH will begin in October 2013. Students who follow this stream will have more dedicated time to understand the health, economic, political, social and bio-medical challenges and innovations associated with poor health that can effect people based anywhere in the world.

Imperial College is one of the world’s leading research universities and the MPH offers an excellent grounding in research methods for those considering undertaking a PhD in a public health or health services research related field. Students will have the opportunity to learn public health skills from eminent academics; many are leaders in the fields of epidemiology and statistics. The MPH is very well-suited to applicants who are interested in developing and improving their quantitative analytical skills.
