Student Profile

Emily Fletcher

Graduated in 2021

During my time at university, I’ve been a senior representative and represented the student voice across the university, allowing students to have control over their courses and make big decisions over their education. I’ve learnt important skills about chairing meetings and taking minutes. I also socialise in a few more casual societies; this has allowed me to develop a great network of supportive and unique friends who study a variety of courses.

Outside of university, I love the area I live in. Northampton feels nice and relaxed compared to the busy, and often overwhelming cities. However, transport links are great so If I ever want to explore the cities I can easily get to London, Coventry, Milton Keynes, and Birmingham. This is great for me because outside of University I started ice skating this year and each week I can easily travel via train to Milton Keynes to develop my skills. I also roller skate at Benham Sports Centre which is near to Scholars Green Student Village and volunteer at a Scout Group within walking distance of the University, where I run the Scout Section to educate young people in skills for life and share my passion for camping and exploring.

There’s a lot to do in and around Northamptonshire. This next year I'm going to look into the Pinnacle Climbing Centre, which is a fifteen minute walk from the University and features rock climbing, bouldering, and a caving experience.

Life within the University of Northampton community definitely keeps me busy. However, I feel no pressure to take any of these things on and usually do them just for the experience, or to gain a new skill. I’d encourage anyone who enjoys a bit of an adventure to explore the University of Northampton and all that it has to offer!
