About the course

Our MSc in Ecology and Conservation aims to enable students to gain knowledge and skills to meet their career aspirations, whether in research or as practising ecologists. Our programme will enable you to develop a strong grounding in the theoretical principles of ecology, gain understanding of the applications of ecology in conservation and learn the practical skills required to carry out ecological research and to apply ecological techniques in conservation and other contexts.

The programme includes a week-long, field-based activities component in the introductory ecology course, taking place within the Cairngorms National Park. Here you will practise ecological field methods and undertake small projects, providing a great learning experience.

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirement for this programme is a degree in a biological, environmental or physical science, geography, or other relevant discipline at 2:1 (upper second class) UK Honours level, or an Honours degree from a non-UK institution which is judged by the University to be of equivalent worth. Candidates with at least a 2:1 or equivalent in other disciplines may be considered if they can demonstrate relevant experience and motivation.
