Molecular Bioscience - MRes

My parents and I had heard about this school from our friends even before I graduated from my senior high. We thought that though this university is quite young, the teachers there are experienced. Also, the British teaching and learning style is quite different from what we had experienced in our high school, which can encourage students to study by their own instead of relying on others. Therefore, we believed that it’s a great opportunity to improve my ability in this international university located in China.
I began to be interested in biology since I was very young, which was the first reason that made me choose this major. Then my seniors told me that our teachers in the Department of Biological Sciences are all experienced and friendly who are willing to help students with their problems. Additionally, both teaching and research lab in our department are well-equiped, and we have opportunity to get access to the professional research in our Y3 and Y4.
I think, the first thing that makes our school different is its British teaching and learning style in which students are willing to study, not forced to study. In this style, lecturers are more like advisors instead of arranging everything well for students. Secondly, students in our school are treated as young adults but not children, so we have many chances to take initiative and the faculty does its best to support us. Thirdly, our lecturers and tutors are like our friends who can help us with our problems no matter in study or life. On campus there are many clubs you can join to spend your free time like Orchestra and Harmony club and it was a great opportunity for me to learn new things and make friends!
One highlight of my life in XJTLU is that I really learned a lot in my academic life. Our university provided many opportunities to get us involved in professional research such as SURF and FYP. All the skills I learned from these projects will be really helpful for my future study."
