About the course

The Independent Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Independent Schools and Academies was developed in close consultation with the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC). Since 2002 it has been offering teachers in the independent sector, who have not undergone a period of formal teacher training, the opportunity to participate in a structured programme of professional development. This course is for those teaching in Primary, Preparatory and Senior Schools, as well as all Academies.

If you would prefer to qualify with QTS and you teach in a school in England, please look at either our Primary, Prep or Secondary PGCE with QTS courses.

Scholarships

We are delighted to announce a brand new Scholarship Scheme available to schools in the state-maintained sector in Buckinghamshire.

The latest funding allocations from the Department for Education place Buckinghamshire schools in the bottom 10% of funding per pupil, and, despite rising cash amounts going into schools, spending per pupil is set to fall by 8% between 2014 and 2020. This is the first time since the mid-1990s that school funding has fallen in real terms.

In recognition of this challenging financial backdrop, the new Scholarship Scheme is offering 20 fully-funded places for school teachers and leaders in Buckinghamshire schools on the following courses:

Up to 10 places on the PGCE with QTS course (Primary or Secondary) or the Assessment Only Route to QTS (Primary or Secondary)
Up to 5 places on the Postgraduate Certificate (Level 7) in Middle Leadership course
Up to 5 places on the Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (MEd)

These qualifications represent an investment of over £100,000 in local schools.

As a leading provider of school-based teacher training in the country, all of our courses focus on the practical application of educational theory. With minimal time out of school, our courses provide frameworks for studying ‘on-the-job’ and blend distance learning with face-to-face sessions.
