The MPhil in Technology Policy programme provides the context and skills needed to cope with the rapidly evolving environment in many technology-rich areas, including information and communications technology, defence and aerospace, energy and electricity, manufacturing, transport and logistics, pharmaceuticals and health.

Corporate strategies and government policy influence regulation, industry standards and data sharing, which in turn have a major impact on the development of these industries and the competitive positioning of firms and nations. Performance is assessed by indicators such as competitiveness and productivity, as well as less traditional indicators such as sustainability and quality of life.

Knowledge of economics, management, negotiation skills and policy analysis is increasingly important as barriers to trade continue to fall, multinational firms become more prevalent, and international agreements are put in place. There is an increasing demand for leaders who are able to combine technical backgrounds with an appreciation of technology policy and the broader political and economic context.

The MPhil in Technology Policy programme is part of the Technology, Management & Policy Graduate Consortium; a small, inter-connected family of similar courses offered at premier institutions around the world, which meets annually at one of the member universities.

The programme is an intensive nine-month programme, including three academic terms and requiring study in both the Christmas and Easter vacations.

The MPhil in Technology Policy is designed in two streams:

- The 'Professional Practice' stream - for those seeking to become leaders in technology-based organisations
- The 'Research' stream - for those interested in continuing on to a PhD

The 'Professional Practice' stream is for those seeking to become leaders in technology-based organisations. The stream consists of eleven courses and a written group project report based on a placement at a technology-intensive organisation. The emphasis throughout the year is on group and coursework.

For those interested in continuing on to a PhD, we offer the 'Technology Policy Research' (TPR) stream, which prepares students to continue on to a Cambridge Judge Business School PhD. The MPhil in Technology Policy programme's 'Research' stream consists of six compulsory core courses and a research dissertation.

Your full application for October 2012 entry must be received by 30 March 2012; however, entry to the MPhil in Technology Policy programme is very competitive and candidates are strongly advised to send in their applications well before this date and ideally in December. This is particularly important when applying for scholarship funding.
