Student Profiles

Ceri Averill

The teaching is really good here, it's a very supportive environment. The course combines my interests in health and international development, it covers current global issues. I went to Kenya earlier this year. It was good to get experience of working 'in the field'. I plan to volunteer abroad for a year after graduation.

Adamu Sule

I am a Nigerian medical doctor with a deep interest in public health. My career goal is to become a public health and international development specialist. The MPH in International Development has equipped me with the skills to face the public health and international development challenges in the workplace. The core field class to Kenya has provided me with practical field experience. The placement based dissertation I have to undertake in Malawi and the World Health Organisation headquarters, Geneva, will offer me the opportunity to work in a professional organisation to gain valuable experience for future careers.

Studying in Sheffield is exciting, with no compromise in the teaching facilities. Our experienced lecturers make the learning atmosphere another home away from home for overseas students like me. The course is made up of innovative modules which have not only developed my expertise in interventions needed to improve the health of the communities in developing countries but also helped me develop several transferable skills.

Katherine Cobb

My course has given me a fantastic opportunity to broaden my horizons beyond my medical background. The international development side has provided the opportunity for travel to both Kenya and Ghana and given me the flexibility to focus on my own interests. The course attracts a strong mix of international students and it’s allowed me to make some great friends from all around the globe.
