Course overview:

This programme has been designed with the help of professionals from one of the UK’s largest Port Operators, Peel Ports. Ports are part of the international logistics industry and with this in mind, the programme incorporates two relevant modules concentrating on the role of international trade and the logistics sector.

On completion of the course you will have a rounded view of the management of ports and port terminals as well as the wider logistics industry. In addition you will be able to move into port management worldwide, as the programme covers container and bulk port operations at postgraduate level, as well as the personnel issues ensuing from the management of port labour.

You will have the option to study risk and safety management, plus the wider aspects of shipping. This will allow you to experience facets of the industry not available on other similar programmes. You will also benefit from industrial visits and hear speakers from the industry further broadening your experience.

Our highly qualified and respected academic team combine specialist knowledge with relevant industrial experience. This combination of academic and professional expertise helps ensure that graduates are well equipped to meet the opportunities and challenges of this exciting sector.

Many of your tutors are active members of LJMU’s LOgistics Offshore and Marine (LOOM) Research Institute, which has established a worldwide reputation in risk and safety management and the development of management information and decision support systems within the marine, offshore and logistics sectors. It has developed a number of novel methodologies in this field, which are being taken up by industry. Many of these are also finding applications in other industrial and commercial sectors including transport, chemicals, and financial services. The group has current industrial research collaborations with AMEC, Bibby Line, Shell, Lloyds Register, QARS Management & Engineering Consulting, VECTRA Group Ltd and the Offshore Safety Division of the UK government’s Heath and Safety Executive.
