Entry Requirements

Students wishing to take the MSc Astrophysics should normally have at least a 2:2 honours degree (or equivalent) in a subject with substantial Physics, Mathematics and/or Astronomy content. Students who do not qualify may wish to take the Postgraduate Certificate in Astronomy and Astrophysics (the first year of the MSc Astrophysics programme) which normally requires a degree (or equivalent) in a subject with a substantial Physics, Mathematics and/or Astronomy content.

Scholarships

The Scholarship is open to applications from all home students who hold an offer for an eligible postgraduate taught programme* for September 2024 and meet the following criteria:

A home fee student who had previously been eligible for funding via the Students Loan Company
Have achieved, or is predicted to achieve a high 2:1 or above at undergraduate level
Not previously completed a postgraduate programme
Priority will be given to students who also fulfil the following criteria:

Eligible for the full maintenance grant/loan i.e. have a household income level of £42,875 or below in the final year of their undergraduate study as assessed by Student Finance England or equivalent. You will need to supply evidence to demonstrate this by uploading your Student Finance Entitlement letter
Reside in a Home (not university accommodation) in ACORN group L, M, O, P or Q
For current Queen Mary final-year undergraduate students only: in receipt of the Queen Mary Bursary
Can effectively demonstrate how you intend to use the scholarship to overcome any barriers or contribute to the wider Queen Mary community.

Queen Mary University of London is delighted to introduce a new Global Talent Scholarship worth £3,000 for highly qualified postgraduate taught offer holders joining us in September 2024. The scholarship is available to all international students with an offer for an eligible programme, regardless of nationality, who meet the criteria.

The Global Talent Scholarships will be awarded automatically to self-funded international students with a UK first class honours degree (or equivalent) – there is no application or registration process. The scholarship will be deducted from a recipient’s tuition fees when they enrol at Queen Mary.
