Sheffield originally expanded with the development of coal mining and metalworking during the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield has long been a hotbed for musical talent, with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Pulp and the Human League all making their name in South Yorkshire.

The city also has a distinguished sporting tradition and is an ideal home away from home for football fans, featuring two large rival football clubs, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, as well as the oldest club in the world: Sheffield FC.
