“After completing the MSc a worked as a research technician Aberystwyth University and then as an Environmental GIS consultant for a local company. More recently I started a PhD at Swansea University”.

“Self funded, I took a year out after my BSc degree to save up the money”.
Why you think BSc graduates should do an MSc in Managing the Environment?
“The MSc is a fantastic way to gain a good grounding in a range of environmental matters. I learnt about environmental law, EIA as well as practical skills in survey and lab work“.
What you liked most about the MSc and Aberystwyth?
“Aberystwyth is great coastal location and everyone is so friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my year there but also particularly liked my period spent in Sweden. It was an amazing place to study and I met people from all over Europe”.
What you learnt during the MSc that has been transferable to your work?
“Critical analysis skills and evaluating information and dissemination to a range of users”.
A brief history of your career following the MSc:
“I got a job at the University of Bedfordshire in their Quality Assurance office. I subsequently secured my current position with the Open University on a European wide public outreach project called Evolution MegaLab!”

“I realised that my career would benefit from advanced study, I wanted to develop theoretical knowledge of the marine environment and practical experience”.
How you funded your MSc
“My MSc was funded via summer work and note‐taking at the University. I also obtained support from the Countryside Council for Wales (Marine Monitoring Team)”.
Why you think BSc graduates should do an MSc in Managing the Environment
“It is a very adaptable course and for me secured interviews for good positions within my field, something a BSc may not necessarily do”.
What you liked most about the MSc and Aberystwyth
“I thoroughly enjoyed the MSc. and was given the chance to work with great people and projects. The work, although hard was satisfying and enjoyable (with a large proportion outside!). Aberystwyth is a great town full of friendly people, things to do with an amazing coastline”.

“A range of practical sampling techniques, thorough research skills and flexibility in terms of responding to others”.
A brief history of your career following the MSc:
“I went to several interviews and secured a seasonal warden position with CCW (Reserve Warden Dyfi NNR). I then secured a position as Communications Officer with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust for one year and then started my current position

“Tuition fees were paid by a grant from the James Panytfedwen Foundation. Remaining costs were self‐funded and supported by a part‐time job”.

“The community and location, there was also always someone available to listen. Being so close to the sea and mountains as well as CAT was great for leisure and study”.

“Initiative, team working skills, analytical skills, time management and organisational skills”.
A brief history of your career following the MSc:
“I worked part‐time in a shop and volunteered with Gwent Wildlife Trust. I was then appointed by the RSPB as an Information Assistant at a peregrine viewing site, Symonds Yat Rock in Gloucestershire. I was recently appointed as a Biodiversity Assistant with Newport City Council but still volunteer with Gwent Wildlife Trust”.
