What made you choose to study at NTU?

“NTU has an outstanding record for research and employability alike. Having studied at NTU before, I knew exactly what the university offers and couldn’t think of any university that could offer me equivalent value.

What do you think about the course staff?

“Staff members always act professionally, being available to support you throughout your time at the University. Competent technical staff are also always available to ensure the best learning experience. It’s also nice knowing whenever you need help in technical areas, there is always suitable and competent staff to help you with anything you want.

How would you describe the facilities at NTU?

“From lecture theatres to the library, the amount of resources available to enhance student learning experience at NTU is unimaginable. The University has always ensured the most up to date study materials are available and continues to invest to guarantee student access to the most useful databases. The modern and state of the art facilities in all NTU lecture theatres and teaching rooms is unrivalled.

Why would you recommend your course at NTU?

“For someone considering employment opportunities after the Masters, I have seen nothing offering a better employability record than the NTU MSc Quantity Surveying course. There’s nothing better than knowing that whenever you send your CV to companies you get a response on every application you do, and that’s exactly what the course guarantees. And now, just halfway through the course, almost everyone I know on the course has a job offer already.

How do you think your postgraduate qualification will benefit your employability?

“The course has not only given me a head start in developing a career in construction, but upon completion of my study the course guarantees me the very essential skills I will need to apply at work. I am always confident that I will apply the skills acquired to solve problems in a creative way and a way that benefits both my employer and society in which I will be working. The key elements of the course are structured to ensure I succeed whatever the route I choose after graduation, be it employment, further study or starting my own businesses.”

Why NTU?

“I wanted to study on a course which was RICS accredited. NTU also had the option of completing an internship instead of a dissertation, something that other universities did not offer. The internship option is the main reason that I chose NTU.

“If you want a job in the construction industry and think that Quantity Surveying is suited to you, then I would suggest doing this course. The amount of interest that employers show in you, means that you are hard pushed not to secure a job before the end of exams in June. NTU carries a good reputation in the industry and many employers have other team members who have come from NTU.

Has the course given you any job opportunities?

“I have been offered 11 interviews, with various Quantity Surveying companies between October and February (after starting the course in October). I was offered two Graduate Quantity Surveyor roles before Christmas, one with a main contractor and one with a consultancy firm, after attending their interviews. I accepted the job with the consultancy firm in January.

“The amount of employers who wanted to interview me because I was studying this course was unbelievable. The fact that I was so in demand meant that I could be picky about where I wanted to get a job and what sort of company I wanted to work for, this is something that graduates want but never actually get to experience.

How do you think the course will aid your career progression?

“This course will allow me to start my pathway to chartership status almost straight away. I should be able to sit my APC in two years. Without this RICS accredited degree, it would have taken me five years before I could sit my APC. Taking a year out of work to go back and study for this degree has definitely accelerated my career progression.

I already held a postgraduate qualification, though it was too general and I found it difficult applying it to job roles. However, employers like to see a postgraduate qualification and it does help push you past those with just an undergraduate degree. In hindsight I wish I had done my MSc Quantity Surveying qualification straight after my undergraduate degree instead of my first postgraduate qualification.”
