Lets talk about funding!
User: NikkiW - 10 April 2015 15:58
Hello, I know one of the main topics on the forum is funding, whether you're applying for funding, are working to supplement funding, or talking about the latest funding news. There's been a lot in the news recently, for both Masters and PhD study, so I though it would be great to have a thread on all things funding. We'll keep you updated with new schemes- like the HEFCE £10,000 Masters bursaries, the Masters Loans Schemes and any Erasmus funding news (which we have guides for on FindAMasters and FindAPhD). So feel free to ask any funding questions, or use this thread to discuss any funding issues! And if you're looking for funding, Good Luck! Nikki

Prospective Masters students: You may well have heard about the £10,000 bursaries for Masters study in England in 2015. This HEFCE Postgraduate Support Scheme aims to allow 10,000 students to take up Postgraduate Study in 2015. If you are interested in finding out more about these bursaries, you might be interested to read our FAQ about the scheme:http://www.findamasters.com/funding/guides/hefce-postgraduate-support-scheme.aspx You'll also find a full list of all the English universities that are participating in the HEFCE Postgraduate Support Scheme, including how many £10,000 awards they have available.

What are your thoughts on the UK PhD loan system which got announced recently? Prospective PhD students: would these loans make a difference for you if you're thinking about PhD study? There's been a lot in the news following these articles, both about the benefits of the loans and the reality of huge amounts of government lending and student debt:http://www.techuk.org/insights/news/item/3717-why-budget-2015-loans-for-phds-matter-for-tech http://www.ifs.org.uk/publications/7472 Let us know what you think, or feel free to discuss any other PhD loan articles! Cheers, Nikki

If you are thinking about studying for your PhD abroad, then why not read this useful article about Erasmus Mundus doctoral training!http://www.findaphd.com/funding/guides/erasmus-mundus.aspx Offering funding to around 250 students each year, this funding offers students the chance to study your PhD abroad, in Europe and beyond. And if anyone is currently part of the Erasmus Mundus training, then we'd love to hear how this programme has worked for you!

There's less than a month left now to sign up to the FindAMasters and FindAPhD newsletter and be in with a chance of winning £5,000 to help fund your studies!http://www.findaphd.com/funding/postgraduate-phd-scholarships/ You can read all about our previous winners too (and you might even get some ideas for your own entry!) Good luck if you are applying

I think the biggest issue plaguing us all is funding - namely not enough! I'm encountering problems with funding, specifically that my uni has deep pockets only for the sciences. I've had moderate success with the blanket approach, essentially e-mailing everyone you can think of and asking for money. Yes it sounds crude, but when it comes down to it you need to do what you need to do to fund your research. Good luck!

Hi, I am looking to take advantage of this new scheme set out by the government to fund masters up to 10,000 in 2016 and i am pinning my hopes on this coming through. The last i heard was that it was to be reviewed on 29th May however i cannot find any latest updates on it. I am just wondering if you know anything about this Many Thanks Kyle

Hi Kyle 29th May was the deadline for the end of an open consultation process, during which the government invited feedback on its loan proposals. There should be a report on the results of that consultation within the next week or two - we'll be keeping the information on FindAMasters.com updated:http://www.findamasters.com/funding/guides/new-uk-postgraduate-loans-scheme.aspx Hope that helps a wee bit, Mark

Hi, does anyone have any advice on completing scholarship applications, particularly competitive ones? I want to apply for a Master's study to Economics at Nottingham Trent Uni (Sept 2015) but I haven't completed an application like this in ages. The deadline's soon (7th August) so I need to be quick. Any tips from those who have secured Master's funding or similar would be appreciated. Cheershttp://www.ntu.ac.uk/nbs/courses/fees_and_funding/masters_scholarships/index.html

Does anyone have any experience of Masters scholarship applications which they can help postgrad25 with? We also have a Masters scholarship for students who are starting their Masters study this autumn:http://www.findamasters.com/funding/postgraduate-masters-scholarships/ There's a top prize of £5,000 up for grabs, as well as some £500 runners up prizes, but the deadline is the 31st August, so if you want to enter, then now is the time! Best of luck with your search for funding! Nikki

Hi all, Just to let you know that the FindAMasters and FindAPhD scholarships are now closed for 2015. Thank you for all your applications, we've had so many high-quality creative entries so the judges will have a very hard task choosing the winners! Our scholarships will open again next year for students starting their postgraduate studies in autumn 2016, so stay tuned for more information on that closer to the time. Thanks again to everyone who entered! Nikki
